With a perfectly crisp outside and delightfully fluffy inside, it was almost a shame to order it in sandwich form when it was already so good as a standalone item. So this name is misleading because you are essentially getting a sandwich... this place have fluffy well made crispy golden baked biscuits, that they paired with many tasty combinations. This particular location opened at 7am on a Sunday and shared the dining area with sizzle pie. They open early and close early, there are other locations in Portland and even more in random cities like Reno. Sizzle pie was decent but pine state surpassed my expectations, the customer was good but when we returned later that night the employees seemed burnt down. I had the Mcisley, a biscuit sandwich with pickles and fried chicken. Well seasoned at that. It featured mustard and local bee honey. Well priced for what you are getting. Best Biscuits I've ever had anywhere!! I got the shrimp and grits and the biscuit with marionberry and pimento cheese spread. FIRE!!!! The grits were nice and cheesy with a good consistency (not too mushy, not too hard) and the shrimp had plenty of seasoning. They weren't small shrimp either. My favorite was the biscuit spread though. That pimento cheese with the marionberry spread was life. Fuhhhh... I cannot wait to go back to watch LAFC destroy the Timbers again!!! I first had Pine State Biscuits in Portland a few years ago and never realized this place was the same place for awhile! I'm so glad it is because the food is incredible. It's smart to call in an order when you can as it gets very busy but it's all worth the wait. Peppery, savory sausage gravy on big, crispy chicken filled biscuits with a plethora of styles that will satisfy any craving. I recommend the Reggie Deluxe with a runny egg and a Nashville hot dip! It goes even better with the blueberry corn meal pancakes. The limited specials are always a fun order as well. Good leftovers as well as the portions are big so the price is all worth it. This place has been on my list since moving to PDX. This turned out to be a great location Despite accidentally coming to this location instead of the one in Alberta where our friends went cause I didn't realize there were 2 locations in NE. This PSB is smaller than Alberta with less seating but also a shorter, faster line. There's also a Sizzle Pie that shares the space so you can get biscuits and pizza at the same time(how about making biscuit crust pizza???) PSB is really worth the line. I got the Regina which was vegetarian and very good but very saucy, so the biscuits got soggy. Next time I'll probably just get an egg sandwich so I can really savor a crunchy yet soft biscuit. What an awesome little place. Very trendy. Definitely something we lack a lot in my home town restaurants. I happen to be in Portland for the weekend and decided that some good home style breakfast would be great before heading to the airport. The Yelp reviews do not lie. This was a very tasty breakfast! I had the Hash Up with steak add bacon while my wife had the Reggie Deluxe with extra gravy. The flavors did not disappoint. Thankfully this location was close to our hotel so we didn't have to go to the more popular location and wait in a long line. Score!! We walked in, and this location is small but still offers the typical menu and serves up the same tasty food. I got the Reggie, hubby got the Reggie deluxe. The Reggie is a generous piece of fried chicken breast with melted cheese on a biscuit topped with gravy. The Reggie deluxe is the same but with a fried egg. Ok first of all, I DO like a good biscuit with gravy. Their biscuit was warm, doughy, and buttery. The gravy was thick and flavorful. The fried chicken was perfectly crispy and not oily, and that melted cheese just oozed off of it all. My god, it was so good. Yes, it's heavy, and yes, it's not healthy. Duh. It kept me full most of the day, but it was delicious and so worth it. I also got their cajun fries on the side just because I wanted a little potato action. Those were tasty too! Also, let it be said, I went back to Pine State the next morning, but I couldn't get myself to devour a Reggie again so I got a couple biscuits to go with their out of this world apple butter. I took my biscuit a cut it in half to enjoy but was disappointed by how salty it tasted. No big issue readjusted and went in for another bite just to again taste salt. The variety of biscuit sandwiches are great, and you could also build your own creation, but I had the McIsley (Fried Chicken, pickles, mustard, honey) and the combination of flavors was legit. I wish I could have tried the others, but I wanted to walk out of there. If you are not into biscuits the Hash browns covered in gravy and grilled onions is a meal within itself. Service: There are rules when you walk in, so you order at the counter and pick up when you are called but if you are with a group there is no getting a table ahead of time until everyone has ordered so be prepared to stand in line and deal with some people who are eager to grab a table and deviate from the rules. As my mini vacay to Portland came to a close I decided to say my goodbyes with Biscuits & Gravy - Biscuits smothered in sausage or mushroom gravy. As I perused the menu I decided that I 100% COULD NOT leave with just one tasting. So I ordered some "To Go" items to take enjoy on the plane or for breakfast....ok, and maybe lunch too...the next day. I couldn't help myself, once I started ordering, I couldn't stop, I got The Chatfield - Fried chicken, bacon and cheese topped with apple butter, the Andouille Corn Dog - Homemade featuring Otto's Andouille Sausage served with stone ground mustard and honey and I even ordered a half dozen Creamtop Buttermilk Biscuits to share with my homies in Los Angeles. My opinions? Best biscuits I've ever had. They were fluffy and moist, yet flaky enough to be considered a biscuit. There was enough sausage in the gravy to qualify as "sausage gravy". It's one of my pet peeves...some places should actually call it "sausage FLAVORED gravy". The fried chicken of The Chatfield had a nice crispy coating that even survived through the next day with a round in the refrigerator and the microwave the next day. The Andouille Corn Dog was a little dry, probably needed to eat that fresh out of the fryer. The biscuits though....4 days later and they're still freaking good! Definitely go with the marionberry jam, you won't regret it. My foodie friend Barry told me that if I get anything, I must get the Reggie. What part of that didn't I hear? I do regret not trying the Reggie, but I wasn't that hungry to finish all that before jumping on the plane. And I don't know about you but I don't like gravy things mushing up my bread things and to top it off, having to eat it cold. On all my friends itinieries for Portland, Pine State Biscuits was almost always on top of their list. This location is relatively small because it's a shared space with another eatery. Seating is limited but wasn't an issue when we went because the other eatery wasn't open yet. Reggie Deluxe- fried chicken, bacon, cheese, and egg in between a biscuit with gravy on top. The chicken was dry and tough. I didn't feel like there was anything special about the biscuit or this entree. Blueberry Cornmeal Pancakes- delicious! Huge, real blueberries within the moist pancake. The cornmeal definitely gives it a unique texture. The menu advertises three pancakes but you can get a single pancake if you wish. I got a single pancake and regretted my decision. Finally a brunch place with affordable prices without compromising taste. This was our first stop when we landed in Portland and wow did it hit the spot. The place is seat yourself and the seating area is shared with another restaurant. There weren't too many seats and snagging a table for a larger group proved tricky but challenge accepted! Here is what we ordered: Blueberry Cornmeal Pancakes ($6) - We ordered these to share and while some in the group thought it was all right, I thought they were amazing! The cornmeal adds a unique texture and the blueberry flavor really ties it together. Fluffy and sweet, who wouldn't love these? Also the price point is great for two huge pancakes Hash Ups ($7) - I didn't love these as much as the pancakes but others in our group did! It comes as a huge sheet of hash browns with toppings on top. The hash brown was really crispy and while good, I didn't think it was mind-blowing. I felt myself continuing to reach for those pancakes... The Moneyball ($7) - Essentially just gravy and biscuits, which is all I really wanted, and man did it hit the spot...the gravy was so creamy and I do have to admit it made me a little nauseous towards the end just because it was just a heavy creamy carby meal. My boyfriend and I were watching an episode of Diners, Drive In's, and Dives and we found this delicious place during our stay in Portland. We ordered the Reggie Deluxe with sausage gravy and it was so good! We also ordered a side of hush puppies but they weren't like the typical Southern Carolina hush puppies. Pretty good quick breakfast/brunch. I got the Reggie Deluxe and it was so good. I couldn't even eat all of it because it filled me up so much. Great service, when we first got there the line was pretty long, but it was speedy, so the wait wasn't bad at all. The atmosphere was garage grunge so it really fit the theme of the menu along with the pizza place that was in the same room. My only complaint or tip for them would be to serve more gravy with the Reggie Deluxe. Great little place to finish off my trip to Portland. read more

Here's all that my review needs to convey to you: I ate breakfast here two days in a row, because FOMO. Seriously, I can't believe this restaurant is tucked away in Portland, when it feels fresh out of Atlanta or Mobile. I had a field day taking photos of the sky-high biscuit sandwiches, so be sure to check those out, but here's a rundown of everything he we ordered: Day 1 First off, no, you didn't go to the wrong location, yes they do share a building with a late-night pizza place (genius business model to fill rent in all hours of the day). - Fried Green Tomatoes with ranch dipping sauce (5/5) :: they weren't better than my Daddy's, but they were close! - Shrimp and Grits (4/5) :: grits were perfect and flavors were perfectly mouthwateringly savory, but the sauce was oversalted. Maybe a fluke of the day, and if so, I highly recommend this dish. - The Mcisley Biscuit Sandwich (5/5) :: YALL. Fried chicken with honey and pickles and the coarsest mustard you've ever seen. But the biscuit stole the show. I seriously just can't recommend it enough. - Coffee Pecan Praline Poptart (5/5) :: tbh, we were too full to eat this at the restaurant, but it kept perfectly for a snack two hours later, and man was it perfect. Buttery flaky tart crust coated with a marshmallowy praline and filled with this punchy coffee-tasting pecan pie filling. Don't get too obsessed, because I gather that their poptart flavors are rotating, but I'd bet money that you really can't go wrong with whatever they have in the case that day. - drip coffee was really good local stuff, and bottomless Day 2 - I seriously ordered just a side of grits with cheddar, and a biscuit with apple butter. You'll see in the pictures that a single biscuit looks like 3 stacked biscuits. I applaud whoever is working their dough. They're some seriously loving light hands making those mile high layers. Obviously both were 5/5 - the other two in my party ordered the BBQ Biscuit and The Wedgie which were just as impressive in flavor pairings as the Mcisley, but the Wedgie takes the cake on showmanship. Just look at the photos. The only downside to this location (can't vouch for the others) is that it's constantly busy on weekends and you definitely can't "sit and stay a while" sipping the bottomless coffee with your friends. I'm a sucker for pecan pies. The fact that they had one made in house.. I just had to. I rate the Pecan pie a 4.5 - 5 out of 5. -Fried green tomatoes: bomb. Yes, they will get soggy quick because tomatoes are juicy bleeps. But that doesn't and wouldn't derail me. I have an infinity for tomatoes. Paired with their ranch: it's quite refreshing. ---- Days before that I got one of their biscuit sandwiches. I loved the biscuit, didn't care too much for their fried chicken. I loved the veggies. I liked the bacon, it was a little bit on the greasier crispy side, but still good. Overall if I had to just review this on the inital day, I would've just given this place a 3 out of 5. Oh. My. Goodness. I love Pine State Biscuits! I can't believe I did not come here sooner!!!!!! I ordered the Chatfield and the bf had the Reggie. We each loved our plates! The Chatfield does not have the gravy that everyone loves, but there is apple butter. I actually liked the Chatfield better than the Reggie, but I'm not sure if it's becasue I tasted mine first. The bf liked the Reggie better than the Chatfield. BUT with that said, we acknowledged that both were DELICIOUS!! I also had their coffee (Stumptown, self-serve, unlimited refills) and the bf had a Bourbon Ginger. The cocktail was great! The bf and I loved it! I am so happy that I got to experience this food before leaving Portland. It's also right next to Sizzle Pie; I heard they have good pizza, if that's your type of thing. Whoever was the food runner here on 5/27 in the morning is possibly the worst food runner I've seen. She didn't help the cooks or the servers prioritize the tickets. I walked in to place a take-out order for 4 biscuits and I ended up waiting there 45-50 mins. I don't blame anyone else but the food runner because the cook was the one who had to ask for the name for the order since he noticed I had been standing there for a while. As the food runner, she also forgot to put hot sauce on one of the biscuits. The girl taking my order was nice, the cooks were fine but it was obvious the food runner couldn't do her job correctly.
