Yikes. Did I do something wrong? The service is minimal because you order at the counter, they bring out your food, and you buss your own table but everything was terrible about my experience. Most notably, the plate my entree was served on was scalding hot. Extremely, burning, unbearably hot. I moved my plate a few inches to center it on the table and that was enough to be more than unpleasant. I don't recall if the busser was wearing any oven mitts or anything to protect his hands but he must have been. I don't see how anyone could be handed a plate like that and not drop it out of reflex. Lastly, there was no warning that the plate was hot... in fact, he didn't even say anything. I digress. I came here on a Saturday at 10am. The line was long but it moved pretty quickly. There were a ton of things I wanted to try on the menu: Hash Ups, Shrimp n Grits, Otto's Andouille, Old Fashioned Sausage corn dog, the list goes on. I ended up ordering the Chatfield, (Fried chicken, bacon and cheese topped with apple butter) Fried Green Tomatoes $5, and the Poor Man's Hatten $9 (Old Forester bourbon, Peychaud's bitters, Cheerwine soda, cherry, served on the rocks) because it's never too early to drink. The manhattan was good. It had great presentation and I'm a big fan of Cheerwine so they couldn't mess that up.If you haven't tried Cheerwine, do yourself a favor and buy a bottle somewhere. Anywhere. Just not here. The food: After waiting 15-20 mins, My biscuit and fried tomatoes came out. Like I said the plate that my biscuit was on was extremely hot and burned me. Despite that, my biscuit was lukewarm. The chicken was extremely dry. That... makes for a terrible combination. Additionally, it was doused in apple butter so while it was super appley... it was also super sweet. I'm a big fan of sweet / salty things but the sweetness in this biscuit was overpowering. The fried tomatoes were a good choice because the saltyness helped balance that out a bit. I believe for $5 you get 5-6 fried slices of tomato. These are't huge... just your typical quarter / half dollar sized disks... So for $5... that's... a pretty hefty price for such a small serving. I'm not sure what I was expecting but it just tasted like any other deep fried food like fried zucchini. nothing special, definitely not worth getting again. TLDR: Overall, the workers over here have some serious attitude issues and it seems like management doesn't care. There are other yelp reviews that cite similar problems, none with responses from the ownership. Entree was overcooked yet somehow cold. I've been to pine state biscuit's other location and this one does not disappoint! Same great quality comfort food! They share the restaurant with Sizzle pie so you try out both! Biscuits and gravy! Reggie Deluxe (YUM!!!) Big heaping portion of Hash brown with an iced tea. The Reggie Deluxe is huge so I recommend sharing it with someone so you can try the other items they have. I had The Chatfield & Hash Ups . I waited not more than 5- 8 minutes for my food . They give you a little number tent and deliver the food wherever you are seated . Visit one of the other locations!!! This location is NOT allowing any dine in business even though it says they do on Yelp. It's only take out. We got here at 9:45 and noticed the signs that it was take out only. We sat and waited and ordered via their website and was told that our order would be ready in 30 minutes. Plenty of people outside waiting and everyone surprised that they weren't open for dine in as there is no mention of that on their website or on Yelp. 30 minutes go by and we still haven't been called up so we check on the order, the employee says that we are two tickets away so it should be 10 minutes. 5 tickets and 20 minutes later, still nothing. We go back up and ask again and the same employee says we are two tickets away and it should be another 5-10 minutes. Finally they call out our names after we had waited over an hour. Many people waiting also complained that they were waiting 20-30 minutes longer than their quoted time. We get our food and head out. Check the bag, no utensils, no napkins and no straw for the iced coffee. Seriously? If all you are doing is take out, should you not be providing utensils? Just awful service. Typically they have a totally reasonable wait time and generally have seating available. Last time I was there I appreciated that an employee came around and handed out menus. When I reached the front, the person taking orders explained that hashbrowns could take 30 minutes. I said that was fine. Turns out they only took about 15. A nice surprise. But the original location in the South east side and made famous by Guy Fieri and written by "yours truly" has closed down. On my debut of the new location, it was no surprise that it was busy on a Saturday morning. On my mind going there, I was thinking "The Reggie Deluxe" the entire time. Fried Chicken pieces in a freshly baked biscuit was the definitely the ticket. Instead, I had one of the specials, Grilled Cheese on a grilled Texas toast with a bowl of tomato soup. For $8.00, I get melted cheese, grilled onions, apple butter and bacon on thick pieces of grilled bread. It has been a while since I had a grilled cheese sandwich. The tomato soup was very chunky and comforting. The two combine totally hits the spot. For the price, this was a great choice to start my last day in Portland Oregon. Food came out super quick but it was pretty cold. It was still delicious and I'm not the type to complain, so I didn't say anything. This is where the hostility comes in. Driving cross town and idling your car on Alberta street while your friend waits in the rainy line out the door. This popup style take out spot is efficient and offers another place to stop by and grab some of the best biscuits available in the northwest. Do you know what isn't wasteful? Offering 100% compostables and recycling in store. There is literally no garbage can for customers to throw things in the trash. If you wanted to bring your own takeout container, they seem like a place that would accommodate, but I guess it's hard to do takeout on your fixed gear unicycle.
