Best place to go for your fur babies! They were all so caring and considerate when we had to put our dog down. They took their time and stayed after closing while we waited for family to get there for our puppy. That is the kind of care you want your fur babies to have! Will not go anywhere else! Thankyou to everyone for being so compassionate with us and our Marley girl.

We had been recommended to call Great Lakes Pet Emergencies. So that's what we did. As I was explaining the situation to the woman on the phone, she cut me off and said "well we're still seeing patients from 5:00 pm. we wouldn't have time to treat him". I said "okay I understand, do you have any recommendations for any other hospitals that I could call, because you are the 6th hospital we've tried." She stated "well honestly that just the reality of emergency medicine this close to a holiday so I can't help you" I work in a vet hospital myself. I understand having bad days where you're backed up like no other and everyone is upset with you. I'm not upset they couldn't see us. It was late and they had more than enough going on. However, the lack of empathy and professionalism that was used on this phone call was astounding to me, especially given that I had just explained to her that my cat was actively dying in my arms. I could never imagine addressing a crying pet parent with such a lack of compassion, even on the busiest of days. I certainly hope that they treat the patients who actually do receive care at their hospital with a gentler hand.

I got second opinion from another vet and they also said to find a specialist. I was told he would need CT scans, ultrasounds, and surgery. I was overwhelmed and desperately trying to set up the earliest appointments I could get for him. But within that time, it continued to grow. Within a week and a half it went from the size of a golf ball, to the size of a grapefruit. I felt like I wasn't getting the immediate help my dog needed. That's when we came to AEC and met with Dr. Melissa. She had the confidence and experience to perform a procedure on my dog that was absolutely necessary and as a result, she saved him from a great deal of pain, and me from a great deal of panic. (Not to mention thousands of dollars). Melissa introduced herself to my dog so he could became familiar with her. Then she explained to me what she would do, what she was looking for, and what would happen next. All before she took him to the back of the clinic. After the initial check she came back with more details, explanations, and information about the next steps she would take. One thing I greatly appreciated is that Melissa gave me an estimated time as to how long the procedure MIGHT take, but she emphasized that an extended wait time did NOT mean something had gone wrong. That helped settle my anxiety and keep me from watching the clock too closely. I admire emergency physicians and everyone in this field so much. They have to treat traumatic and urgent situations while also balancing their compassion for the animals they are helping. Melissa walks that line with kindness and integrity. She trusts her intuition and seemingly puts herself in the position of her patients. As a result, she provides them with not only the most comprehensive and quality care, she also provides them with a great deal of comfort. One month later, I'm sitting on the couch next to my HEALTHY dog writing a review for this amazing doctor, Melissa. We are so grateful for you! I want to wrap this review up by acknowledging and praising the entire staff at the AEC. My interactions with the receptionists were particularly wonderful. One of them even helped me carry my still somewhat sedated, nearly 80 pound dog through the ice and snow in order to safely get him in my car! If you're having an emergency and need an exceptional doctor, a clean and calming clinic, with the kindest and most compassionate staff, this is where you need to go.

Dr. Sauerbrey was so incredibly kind, professional, and took her time explaining all of our options, giving her recommendations, but making sure at the end of the day our dog would have the best chances and best treatment possible. Our 17 year old cat Lilly had been diagnosed with cancer a year and a half ago. She was doing OK…read moreuntil four or five months ago when she started to decline more rapidly. We took her to the vet again who told us that Lilly had a tumor near her bladder. In the last couple weeks she declined even more and was not eating or drinking very much and had vomited bile a couple times. We took her to the vet again who said she was dehydrated and recommended that we bring her to AEC for treatment. When we got to AEC, they developed a treatment plan for IV fluids and the first step was bloodwork. We were hopeful that Lilly would improve with IV fluids and we would be able to take her home. Sadly, the bloodwork showed that IV fluids were not a viable path given Lilly's condition and that there were no other treatment options. We wanted to take her home, but the doctor advised against that because it would prolong Lilly's suffering. At the doctor's recommendation, we made the excruciating decision to put Lilly down. Although this experience was devastating and traumatizing for us, we can't say enough good things about AEC, from the front desk staff to the vet techs to the doctor. Everyone was so sincerely compassionate and caring and empathetic. Dr. Brink, was outstanding. She gave a detailed explanation of Lilly's condition and the blood test results. We were very impressed by her clinical knowledge and expertise and are very grateful that Lilly was in her care. We appreciated her genuine compassion. About a week after we were there, we received a lovely card signed by each staff member with individual personal notes expressing sympathy for the loss of Lilly. We are so touched by this gesture and have the card displayed on a shelf in our living room with other keepsake items and pictures of Lilly. We strongly recommend AEC if your pet needs care. Even though we lost Lilly, we do take comfort in knowing that we brought her to a place where she was cared for as well as possible in the last hours of her life by such an excellent team.

When I rescued my cats, they were very sick strays and it was the middle of the night. No other 24 hour vet clinic was willing to examine a stray cat without a prior veterinary history, even when I offered to pay for the treatment. The staff at AEC were very reassuring, communicated clearly, and helped me set up appointments and profiles for the kittens quickly. The vet there examined them and was able to send us home with flea medication and dewormer as well as antibiotics and eyedrops for the infections that they were fighting off. It was definitely an expensive trip, but well worth it for the care that was offered. Huge thank you to Animal Emergency Center of Rochester!
