Flew in late and needed dinner. Ended up stumbling upon this diner. It was quick and efficient. Cleanliness was average. Could have been cleaner. I got the Tuna melt and it was very tasty! May daughter got the nachos and they were huge! My husband got a turkey club and said it was very good. If you have leftovers, package them up because there is the sweetest homeless man outside singing Sinatra with his dog Maxi. We gave him tons of leftovers and he was very appreciative. Graveyard Workers are nice and food are great. Sadly, I am being charged twice in different names. Pincecrest without 401 and different charges with 401. The Pinecrest with 401; waitress and I, we both did not see on the card machine history. She told me to dispute in bank the charges for 401. My bank said someone used my card for those charges from pinecrest or someone in management charged it. I explained to the bank that the lady cannot see those charges under 401. The bank said she's lying and she don't know what's she's doing in the office. This YELP messages from April-July. Management lady sent me charges that is matching to my charges without 401. I'd give it a 5 but as great as the food is, the prices are ridiculous! Maybe it's because it's San Francisco taxes or Covid inflation but the prices need to be cheaper. You'd think being in the Tenderloin area, the prices would be lower but as long as they are making money, I see why it's so expensive. Definitely a hole in the wall gem. It's been there since 1969 (open 24 hours) and even with the virus scare - all tables were full for lunch this past Saturday. You can watch how efficient they churn out plate after plate. And they crack real eggs for their scrambles/ omelets etc - no premixed egg batter here! Great little diner that had that small family owned feel. The owner was really friendly the food was good, the staff hustle, and the prices were very fair. Hard to find any real negatives. We got here around 10am on a Sunday and it seemed like we JUST beat the crowd. We got in almost immediately and from that time onward the line just kept growing. Definitely an earlier is better type deal here. -Pinecrest Special: 5/5, standard breakfast food spread. Bacon, sausage, pancakes (or) french toast, & eggs. All very good. We actually ended coming back the next day, because everything was so good. They give you a ton of food. Be careful what you wish for because, you will get it. Since Pinecrest Diner was recommended by the Hotel Consultant. We decided to order takeout. We selected the Ballpark Steak sandwich with garlic fries. The steak was done medium. Part were well done. We shared half of the sandwich. The steak was tender and easy to cut. We shared the 8 pc Buffalo wings too. We saved the chili con carne for the next meal. They have big portions. The garlic fries was bland and needed more salt. The food containers were cardboard and almost fell apart. The diner need better customer service. Not very friendly. Visiting for the weekend from out of town and went out to get breakfast. No greeting from employees. No instruction on whether to wait to be seated or to seat myself. I waited for a couple of minutes when some customers leaving told me I could sit anywhere. Counter was full, but I saw at least five empty tables. While making my way to a table, the busser stopped me and said it's not seat yourself, so I went back to waiting at the front for a table or a spot at the counter. The same busser then came back over to me and said "don't wait for a table because you won't get one". I was confused and asked, "so should I just go, then?" And he said yes. Would I say there's anything wrong with this place? Not really. I think the food is good. The pricing is decent. The portions are reasonable. The customer service is kind and chill. I ordered a country fried steak (breakfast version) and it came with 2 eggs, two cute little triangle sandwiches that were buttered, and a hefty portion of hash browns. I would say, I thought the country fried steak would be bigger, but it had a satisfactory amount of gravy on top which was proportional to the size so that every bite felt the luscious gravy juice. Price was a solid $14.95 for that. I cleaned my plate. Here's why customer service was kind and chill. I had actually brought some leftover food I had from earlier in the day and i had asked the waitress if it's okay to eat my food in there place, she was chill about it. Then another man came and took my order and I asked again to make sure it was okay. He jokingly said, that means you have to pay double! So we cracked open a bottle of wine and started laughing (jk about the wine part ) I think that was very kind of them because they could have said no and so I gave em an extra tip. So good we went twice in a row during our SF trip! This old-time restaurant was the highlight of our culinary experience in SF, after a long day out touring the city, we stopped at this place spontaneously, not expecting the amazing service and delicious food we were in for. The family was tense after we'd missed our tour bus, but everything instantly changed after staff members "Anna Banana" greeted us warmly and handed us menus. She was so nice. The portions were perfectly sized for two people making the meals incredibly affordable. All waiters continuously were checking on all guests. You just don't find this kind of place anymore! We were going to the Curran that night to watch a play and this was the closest and fastest available place. We went got there at 6 and the play started at 7 and all the other restaurants around was either packed and had a waitlist or we would've gone to Jack in the Crack and definitely want to support a local. We choose the bar seats with the view of the kitchen. Was able to get our order in 5 minutes. I got the fish and chips and was given the choice of soup or salad, and bread and a drink also got to choose steamed veggies on the side. I was like oh soup please and ice tea and yes on veggies. My friend got the chicken pasta (not sure what the menu item was but see pictures attached) soup was clam chowder and served with all the crackers that I want. And we got a side of toasted sourdough butter bread. It was a lot of food for a reasonable price in the middle of Downtown SF. I believe mine was only $16.50. I was full after just the soup and veggies and a piece of the fish filled and most of the chips(fries). We were able to finish and pay in 30 minutes. Bring our leftovers to the car and still made it 10 minutes before curtain call and get a bathroom break in prior. Fairly straightforward diner-style restaurant, get in, order, stuff your face, and leave with leftovers. Plentiful options. Located nearby Union Square, it's a good bet you can walk here easily or take any of the excellent public transportation options. It's located on a corner and offers a great view of the busy foot traffic outside. You'll be seated by the host, which only takes a few minutes. It's so comfortable here - cushy booths or bar stools. The menu is large and diverse; prices are super reasonable especially for the portion size and quality of the food. This is comfort food at its best. My reuben was huge pieces of meat, thick melted cheese, and bread grilled to perfection. The fries were great on the side. Close to Union Square and nestled right on a corner is Pinecrest. I liked it so much I had breakfast here two days in a row while staying at The Marker Hotel in Union Square. This place is your typical diner- greasy spoon cooked to order diner and when it comes to breakfast, let's face it, those are tough to beat. I had the eggs, hash browns, and sausage and also the French Tpast. My daughter had the pancakes. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted great. They have booth seating as well as the bar over looking the cooks and grills. It was mesmerizing to watch them work and cook everything so efficient and quick.
