I had high hopes coming here based on all the glowing reviews, but unfortunately my experience fell flat. The shakshuka was a letdown, with ingredients that tasted far from fresh and none of the authenticity you'd expect from the dish. The french toast wasn't much better. It was dry and served on stale bread. I really wanted to love this place, and I hate leaving negative reviews, but I wouldn't feel right recommending it to anyone based on my visit. Service was friendly enough. I wanted a shakshouka- something hearty and nutritious. I ordered my latte and shakshouka to go. I waited a little bit for my order but it was fine. I came away to find that my entree did not come with chickpeas like it traditionally comes with. It was as if they poured Pace Picante salsa over my fried eggs and called it shakshaouka. Beautiful, airy space! Service was friendly and prompt. Came on a Monday for lunch. It's a bright, beautiful space inside. We had the mezze platter and the Alexander Kebabs. Everything was delicious -- the tzatziki was sooooo good: very rich without being heavy. The pita with some babaganoush and tzatziki made for the most delicious bite! The kebab with tomato sauce was super Yom! Very comforting. Just delicious! Turkish coffee was a great way to end the meal. I always appreciate when there are espresso drinks on the menu, but the quality of beans/brew was mediocre. I had the Shakshouka, which is eggs in a tomato based soup/paste. The tomatos were well flavored and very dippable. My husband enjoyed his breakfast burrito, and my kids enjoyed their eggs and sausage plate. I think the breakfast was good. Certainly different with the lamb and beef. The potatoes in my meal were warm, not piping hot though I didn't complain. My wife had the omelette. Our Medium coffee, that's what the "M" is on the menu refers to size. Service was super fast as we walked in the door and the place was packed on a Saturday morning. This place being "dog" friendly was a main reason we visited as we were carrying ours along for the morning. Inside was clean, tables close together, I would have liked a little more room but this was a bustling restaurant. For us the quality was ok, between 3-4. Those who have read my recent restaurant reviews won't be surprised that I ordered the Avocado Toast. I subbed fruit for the potatoes & added bacon. Two slices of delicious ciabatta bread, (actually toasted!), topped with flavorful avocado spread. The oil added, rather than detracted from the taste. Happy first bite. Was torn between the beef and lamb gyro wrap or plate, and ended up going for the gyro plate that can with salad. Very solid, tender, and with good flavor. It was a little more minced than I expected, and had a good crispiness on the outside. Personally, I would have prefer larger slices that can show case some of the meats juiciness. The two spits of gyro meat, the stacked kind not the weird ground loafs, are particularly impressive and hint at the restaurant's specialties. Lamb & Beef Gyro Wrap: I was very pleased with this gyro. Lots of thin slices of wispy crispy meat. It's actual meat pieces stacked on top of each other in the spit. So the real deal, not that weird gyro loaf many places serve. A nice mix of veggies and creamy sauce in a flat bread that is wrapped tightly like a burrito. There's a weird side salad, which is more like lettuce with a little dressing and a few pieces of tomato. Costs over $17, which feels a tad pricey for a sandwich, but a good deal for a sit down in a nice ambiance in San Francisco. It's fast, but it doesn't feel like fast food. Chicken Gyro Plate: Only a little more expensive than the wrap, but much more filling. Lots of salad, modest amount of rice and some toasted pita. The side cup of yogurt sauce was very nice. Tasty freshly shaven gyro pieces by themselves made me realize how rich they were. Definitely need to take in bites of salad or rice to balance it out. Though the plate was more filling, I kinda like the textures and flavors meshing together in the wrap. Baklava: Quite large for a baklava slice, though pricier too, so guess it works out. Nice thick layer of pistachio on the bottom, with some small pieces and some large pieces. Below the nuts was a gooey pastry bottom, just how I like it. The top was flaky, but not too dry. The staff here is amazing! I was running late meeting my husband and our daughter early one Sunday afternoon, so they had a lot of time to sit around. The staff was so sweet to my daughter and ended up giving her a bunch of free stuff - a juice, a piece of candy (with our permission). At the end of our meal they also gave us a free baklava.
