The entire property was renovated with high-end materials, furnishings and decor. We got The Beach front cottages next to each others, some good friends of ours traveled with my husband and myself. It was perfect. Very low-key. They recommended Midway café, and oh my gosh, such a great find! Maybe a 3 to five minute walk from the cottages! They also gave us recommendations and I don't remember the name. We walked across the street for dinner the first night the second night we Uber to another place down the road. We'll be back!

Pines and Palms retirement community!…read more We've stayed here for a few years and always had a great experience... last year (2024) we were told that the resort would undergo a renovation and would be featured on HGTV's Restoration Island. We were excited about the new changes and rebooked for 2025. Fast forward to 2025, we arrived and were pleasantly surprised by the new look! the property looks great! Now to the bad.... the pool/bar. The property doesn't have a liquor license. therefore, if you like anything other than beer, you're out of luck. If you do happen to have a preloaded yeti with your favorite mixed drink, watch out! The pool boy will promptly call you out and ask you to stow it. Additionally, at 8pm the pool closes !!!!! No evening dips. I was told that was due to no attendant present. However, the beach is still open and "swim at your own risk" as if that's safer at night.... seems as if the unavailability to charge you $10 for a drink has out weighed your ability to use the pool. Additionally, pines and palms charter is no longer here, I was told the boat was sold, I was given a number to a captain that provides services to the resort, snorkeling/fishing and such. That person doesn't answer... You're better off going elsewhere. In the end, I'm sitting here writing a review while at the resort at 9pm, disappointed. It's a bummer, this place was a hidden gem.

First off, the B&B is one of a kind. Thorn has assembled an incredible array of artifacts from her travels around the world, everything from original Tiffany lamps to Balinese furniture to Vegas showgirl outfits. It's like your grandma's house, if you had the world's coolest grandma. Be sure to poke around the main house and ask to see the other rooms, if they're unoccupied. The caretakers will be happy to oblige, and they know plenty of stories behind the objects. Back to the Secret Garden Room. The pictures on the website do it justice. That headboard is incredible. The walls are all almost all glass, opening to let in the fresh Florida air. It's very secluded from the rest of the house, with a private patio for breakfast. The semi-outdoor shower is fun but does tend to get the bathroom floor very wet. The fridge is handy if you visit the local restaurants and have leftovers (you will). The breakfasts were good, and it was nice to enjoy them privately. The caretakers schedule a time tor coffee service, and give you about a half hour to sip it and relax before bringing breakfast. The caretakers will give you a pass to the town beach, which is about 15 minute walk, and is a quiet alternative to any of the busy public beaches on the Keys. The house features a small unheated pool, but it didn't get much action in February. (We used it happily, as the temperature was about as good as it gets in Boston.) It also has a small roof deck, though we didn't spend much time there.

She showed us all around the apartment downstairs and how the lights, fans, air con works etc. Although there's no kitchen, there a coffee machine, toaster oven, microwave with a bagel toaster in the side, plenty of tea and coffee and heaps of snacks. There were some beers in the fridge that we were welcome to have too! There were plenty of beach towels to use and a drying rack put out so we would hang them up after using them. There's a little jetty out the back that you can sit and have a coffee in the morning or a drink at night. There was also a fire place out the back & wood. She warned us that sometimes great big iguana's hang out in the garden. She made us feel very welcome. Her husband even gave us a great trip for lunch (Chad's) that was close by and fantastic. The bathroom is small but complete with toiletries and a good size for two people to share. The rest of the apartment is quite large. Lots of toys and things to use as well. Although it downstars from someone's house, it was very private and comfortable. We left our iPhone charger behind and forgot to get our souvenir hat which she happily posted to us as well. All round a great experience.

It sits on its own beach and is very quiet and serene. Breakfasts were an "event" with hot egg and meat breakfast dishes, fresh fruit and a variety of breads along with juice and bottomless coffee served in an atrium that was open to the skies and full of rocks and plants. The Barnacle is now under new ownership and the atmosphere has changed dramatically. We recently stayed there for six nights, from a Tuesday to the next Monday. Gone are the varied colors, rocks and plants. The atrium is now roofed over and has all the charm of a high-school cafeteria. The color is primarily beige as is the experience. Breakfast is now serve-yourself cold continental. Saturday and Sunday were "special" because, without any warning, explanation, apology or compensation, there was no breakfast at all. Not a scrap to be found nor anyone from management or staff to provide it. We were left completely alone to our own devices. Good luck. There are some other changes to the Barnacle as well, specifically the posted warnings "This property is under 24-hour surveillance" with cameras to boot. There's even one on the rooftop sundeck which seems not only intrusive but not a little bit creepy as well. All this was ours for the premium price of $450 per night. They get two stars because it was clean, the AC in the room worked and the bed was comfortable. But that's where the "good news" ends. Over the years, we've recommended to many people that they should stay at the Barnacle. Now, and it pains us to say this, we have to recommend you don't.

However, we were completely blown away by how wonderful it was, with so many great amenities on property and beautiful views. We stayed 4 nights in April. This resort is spread out along two sides of the main highway. We chose a king suite with canal view, instead of the waterfront gulf view. The waterfront rooms looked like they have a great view and very easy access to the pool and dock, but we were delighted with our big deck and access to the additional pool area on the canal side. Our room was so spacious and very clean. We took advantage of the free kayaks, and the beach area was surprisingly fun for snorkeling - we saw so much ocean life! This was our first trip to the Keys, and honestly we were so happy just chilling on the deck and taking in the view and breezes, and visiting the beach, that we could have just stayed at the resort the whole time. Staff is super friendly and helpful. We had the "privacy please" tag on the door for most of our stay as we don't require regular tidying and aren't towel hogs, but the cleaning staff saw us on the deck and still asked if we needed anything. Very nice! Front desk staff were great at explaining all the available amenities and answering any questions. The onsite restaurant Florida Boy was just okay. They do serve breakfast, which is very convenient before heading out for the day. We had a fantastic trip to the keys at Lime Tree Bay and can't wait to book our next trip!

That can't be helped since it is right off the main road! The hotel has a small beach area and a dock. There are plenty of lounge chairs, tables and even a hammock or two. They provide complimentary access to kayaks and paddle boards. There is a nice swimming pool and pickle ball / tennis courts right across the street. The only restaurant in Layton is part of the resort and the food and drinks are good. And of course, the beautiful FL Keys sunsets are part of the package! We had a two bedroom, two bath unit on the second floor. It had a private stair entrance and a large patio that does have an ocean and pool view. The unit is very roomy, on the outdated side as relates to fixtures and appliances, but the beds are comfortable. There is no dishwasher and only one hair dryer. One bedroom has an en-suite and the other bathroom is next to the kitchen, so a bit of a walk during the middle of the night. But, not a big deal for us. Our request for improvement is that the tile floor was filthy, your feet bottoms were black after walking barefoot. Otherwise, we would stay here again. There was a nice mix of families with young kids to retirees.

After 3 days my wife had to threaten the front desk staff with using towels to wipe her ass if the maids didn't restock the toilet paper in our room. Totally unacceptable for a resort. They kept assuring us the rooms service maids were coming in daily, but they never did until she threatened to come down and make a scene. The staff seemed unmotivated to complete even the basic cleaning tasks. We only asked for two coffee k cups, clean towels and the two room garbage cans to be emptied on a daily basis. That was just too demanding and the staff tried to mean-mug us when we came and went but finally got it done for the final two days of our visit. I'd advise you visit another property because the service is nonexistent and a total disappointment. Their on site restaurant was a joke as well. Completely overpriced and out of touch given the location. Every other restaurant we visited in the area was excellent, but theirs was almost always empty. The menu was way overpriced and there were countless local options that were much better and less expensive. Nearly all the staff on site see to be unwilling to provide service to customers and displaying a shitty attitude overall. Leadership changes need to take place or this property will crumble. Good location, just bad service with inadequate leadership supervision.
