Pinion is one of the few veterinary hospitals in town that provide services for rabbits. I have been taking my indoor rabbit to Pinion since he was a baby. Regular check ups, neuters/spays, vaccine, nail trims, and more specialized diagnosis are available for rabbits at Pinion. Bunnies are prey animals, my bunny is always very nervous when at the office. However, Dr. J is so gentle and familiar with rabbits that the appointments are as quick and calm as possible. Dr. J is knowledgeable and always answers questions we have about our rabbit's behaviors, habits, and health. Pinion is very mindful about animal interactions, so rabbit appointments tend to be on Saturdays when there is less activity in the office. I prefer the weekend so that I have more time to ensure my rabbit feels calm and safe back at home after the appointment. Our baby green cheek conure broke her leg on Christmas Eve. The following business day, we called all exotic vets hoping we'd be able to get in with a avian vet. Most appointments were a month out. But the following day Pinion called us back and was able to squeeze her in later that week. Dr Jackson performed X-rays in her office. No sedation was needed. Dr Jackson was also able to identify where the leg was broken, just below the knee. She gave us our options for treatment, told us the pros and cons of those options and gave us quotes. We decided on the splint which was a difficult one for Dr Jackson to do due to the location of the break. Four weeks later and after many rewraps of the splint, our little bird's bones healed. Now she's learning how to reuse her leg after it being in a cast for a month. Dr Jackson was always patient, kind, and you could see the love in her eyes for the precious animals she's treats. The cost for the initial appointment with xrays and the cast was just under $300. Each new wrap was $25 unless the splint had to be replaced then it was around $75. There was no charge for the rechecks. The only negative experience, the waits were long. But I feel that is normal with any doctors office for humans or animals. I don't even know where to start. My dog had some long term health issues that Pinion was aware of. One day, we called them for advice on whether or not to bring him in as he was having extremely bad diarrhea and was overall not feeling well. He had a past of Pancreatitis and thought it may be a flare up, but it seemed different than usual. We expressed that we were very worried and they assured us they would call us back before the end of the day. We ended up having to go to the ER because it started getting so bad. We ended up having to end his life 2 days later. THEY NEVER CALLED US BACK. THEY NEVER FOLLOWED UP AT ALL, NOT EVEN DAYS LATER. We also had to recently end the life of our family dog. My dog never took to the sedative and was clearly anxious being in the exam room. The Vet assistants were all friendly and great, however the vet that performed the euthanasia never even introduced herself. She just walked in, gave her the sedative, and walked out. Once again, she never took to the sedative, so they gave her another and again, did not work. The vet then came in and just injected the euthanasia, not telling us anything about what was to happen nor how quickly it would go into effect. She also spent over 2 minutes digging around in her arm looking for the vein while my dad had to hold her head still. A puppy pad/catheter was never used either. At the end of the service, we were told to just leave her body there whenever we wanted to go. It is so disrespectful to our dog to just leave her lifeless body alone with no one around. How could we just walk out?? My dad ended up asking one of the very nice vet assistants to stay with her. The night and day difference between the euthanasia of this dog vs. the other from earlier this year was crazy. We had a great experiences with an at-home euthanasia vet and to experience this after was very upsetting. It doesn't end here. It took over a week to hear back from Pinion about our dog's ashes and when we opened everything up, HER NAME WAS SPELLED WRONG. WE EVEN ASKED FOR IT TO CORRECTED ON HER FILE PRIOR TO THE APPT. I explained the story to some of my friends in Vet med and they all agreed that this was an awful and unprofessional experience. Overall, not a great experience with this vet. Maybe back in the day was better, but it's definitely not good now. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND. read more

We are very happy with Pinion. Our puppy was treated great here. He was even given peanut butter for being a good patient. So glad we got a recommendation to try this place from some locals in our neighborhood. We used to use another large animal hospital in town in the past with our other animals but they have gotten too big and lost any personal connection to us and our animals. Every time we went in we saw a different Vet. Pinion had a relaxed atmosphere and everyone was so friendly. Dr. Davenport did a thorough exam and our puppy was totally at ease with him. It is nice to go to the Vet and not have a dog that is fearful to go. He gave us lots of helpful information as we are Seniors with a new puppy. It's been ten years without a dog and three years since our cat passed. We are experienced with raising a puppy but we forgot just how difficult it can be. I appreciate the time the Vet spend with us. I never once felt rushed. I have lived in this area a very long time and always saw this place while driving down Virginia. Glad I tried it. Highly recommend for reasonable cost spay services. As a long time dog lover and Truckee resident, local vet clinics here are great for emergency services when you can't drive off the hill, but for non-emergency services like spays, Pinion did a great job at about 1/4 the cost. They used to care but not any more. They couldn't care less about your animals. Wait time is at least 1.5 hours after your appointment. They are unorganized and charge for services not rendered. When traveling with dogs it's so hard to know who you can trust once your dogs are out of your site. (With Covid you have to wait in the car). Trusting your dogs are NOT manhandled once out of your car and into the building. The girls were kind and carried my Italian Greyhounds in for a Nail trim. I had an amazing experience here. My dog Rosie is dog-reactive and needed to be seen, due to excessive scratching. They are small, but oh, the service I witnessed. Rosie was whisked in a side door to a private room, which no other vet i called offered to do. (Damonte Ranch wanted to put her in a crate near other dogs for 1/2 day. She is DOG-REACTIVE.) I spoke to the actual doctor here, who took time to answer all my questions and tell me how cute my dog is. I witnessed 3 technicians assisting a blind senior dog into the facility while we were there, exhibiting great empathy (see photo). Everyone on staff was gushing over Rosie, and were upbeat and friendly. I got a follow-up text to see how she is doing, and an email thanking me for choosing them. Wow! Picked up my doggie from having dental work. Good news to hear they only had to extract one tooth instead of 3, thought I'd save some money on my bill, ya no. They said that it took longer to extract the tooth than they originally estimated, so my bill was actually MORE! Apparently, me agreeing to pick my dog up later was concent to pad my bill for extra surgery time. They called me to give me updates on my dog's surgery process and when they told me that it was taking longer than expected and asked if it was ok to pick her up at 530 instead of 430, I thought they were being courteous and keeping me updated (you know, so I'm not sitting out in the parking lot for am hour), I didnt realize that what they were saying was "it's taking longer so is it ok and it will cost you an EXTRA $500" The manager reasoned that it was still within the range of the original quote (FOR EXTRACTS THREE TEETH) so she figured it was still fair, SERIOUSLY?!?!?! Ok "Karen" so you are saying that extracting ONE tooth took longer than what you estimated it should take to extract THREE teeth and because I agreed to pick her up later, that means I know you are going to charge me an extra $500!?!? Totally dishonest. I would definitely find another vet. This office seems to be more concerned about padding the bill than honest service. How DISAPPOINTING !! $1200 to extract ONE tooth! You tell me that is REASONABLE????? That was your quote when you thought you were going to pull 3 teeth!!! Maybe that's the scam you guys are running. Now I bet you'll tell me the other teeth need to be pulled next year and charge me another $1200! That's so awful! read more

I'm very sad to report that this vet did nothing to help me out to help me get my dogs prescription food. In fact I was told that "I could buy it anywhere" and "it's not a prescription food", (my personal favorite). In order to actually get my poor pups the food they need I am supposed to have Chewy.com confirm a prescription which literally takes seconds! Pinion vet does not get a kickback from Blue Buffalo so they will not help out. "It's not one of ours" is what I am told. It's a basic need just dog food, I didn't ask for anything crazy. However they "could lose their license" and refuse to help out with a basic need of just dog food. They CANNOT lose their license for verifying my dogs food prescription that they have been on FOR YEARS AND YEARS. Pinion vets words exactly!!! "We could lose our license" Maybe it's time to think about why they are so worried about "losing their license", because honestly it sounds like there may be way more to that "losing our license" story then we all may know. Do you really want to risk the health of your fur babies?? If this review helps one person my job has been done. I love my pets, and I love everyone else's pets and I don't want you to risk their lives or health. Please, please, please think twice when it comes to the health of the fur kids! Oh and don't bother writing some lame response telling me how sorry you are blah, blah, blah BS, because we all know you were not sorry on the phone and you are not sorry now. You are just rude and horrible and need to find someone to get this office in shape. Great vet clinic. I've been here twice so far and both times have been great. First time was for a cut on the side of one of my dog's eye. Wanted to make sure it was healing properly. Second time was for another dog who keeps getting skin infections. Keep in mind I've been to another vet and all they did was give me antibiotics and steroids for the dog. Dr. Davenport actually explained that yeast was causing the infections and told me what needed to be done and what I could use to minimize the issue. It's been about a month now and the situation is much better and under control. I'd def recommend this vet. read more

Went here for my boy's neutering surgery, and it was a great experience! Upon arrival, we were greeted right away and check in was easy! Didn't even experience too long of a wait from check in to see the doc! They made sure everything was clear and questions were answered prior to surgery and all the staff seemed very loving to all pets throughout the day! They called to give an update and let us know what time for pickup, it all seemed so easy. They even asked if he needed any additional vaccines or cleanings done (which we did!) and did complimentary nail trimmings and ear exams while under anesthesia. We were also given sedative pills to help our hyper boy relax in order for his stitches to heal- SO APPRECIATED! Overall, a perfect experience. I stopped on a Saturday because my regular vet was closed. Positive was that I was able to get an app't that afternoon for my dog. He was limping and I thought it was his claw based on some blood I saw on it. When I arrived for the appointment they were friendly and I met the vet, Dr. Jackson. I explained what I thought and she looked at the claw. She acted almost afraid of my dog. He is very antsy and energetic but not mean. She said the claw looked bruised, told me what to do and we left. Then home somewhat later I was finally able to see the bottom of the paw. Half of the pad had been sheared off. That is why he was limping. She did not insist to look at the bottom of the paw to make sure it wasn't something else bothering him. Wasted money. Will not go back to them. For many years I have taken all my dogs to Petco for their vaccines. Since getting a new puppy recently and after taking him to Pinion for his first checkup I thought I would try getting his vaccines here since they have a vaccination clinic one day a week and the price for the vaccines seemed reasonable. What they didn't tell me was that I would be required to pay a pre vaccine exam to be sure he wasn't sick. I should have been told that they charge for taking his temp and checking heart rate. Petco does this for free as a courtesy for using their clinic. I will no longer go to Pinion for my dogs vaccines. read more

Something has happened to this office. I have always had great service until now. I booked a "drop off" appointment for my dog last week. They said I could drop her off so they could evaluate her and then I could pick her up later that day. I was told and signed the quote as being $297.00. I also had an appointment for my other dog to get his vaccine shots the same day in the afternoon. This was a "curbside" appointment. I asked the front office person how much the shots would be and was told they would be between $20-$30. I sat in my car while they did the shots. When they came out with my bill it was for $440.00 for both dogs! The shots were way more than they quoted and they added an exam charge of $50.00, which I wasn't told about. I didn't get any information about the results of the exam which is suspect because my dog clearly had some skin issues that could have been addressed. I said I didn't have enough to cover because they charged me way more than I expected. After making me feel like a jerk for not having all the money, they agreed to take $350.00 that day (what I expected to pay) and said I had a week to pay the balance. I called today to make the payment and they have already sent the balance to collections! They claim they called me about the balance, but I NEVER got a call. Klaich was highly priced, not very genuine, over booked, and their only goal was to take your money instead of caring for our animals. Now Pinion, however; I have heard a bunch of great things about and wanted to try them out because I am very particular about who sees my girl. We have used Pinion Animal Hospital for many years for our pets' annual check ups and vaccinations. Historically they've done a good job of that. Since the pandemic started they've taken too having patients wait in their cars, which is understandable, But they seem to be abusing the situation. I arrived for my dog and cats 9:30 appointment about 8 minutes early. I texted them that we were waiting as instructed. I texted again about 9:35 with no response. Finally I called them at 9:40 and they checked me in. They came out for the dog at 9:46 and the cat at 9:52. Irritating since I was the only person in the parking lot...not like they were swamped. I wonder if they keep all the blinds down so we can't watch them enjoy their morning BS session while we wait in our cars? read more

I had called their after hour line to see if I can have my French bulldog come in. He is a new pet and has a possible ear infection. His ear is hot to the touch, swelling and he's make himself bleed by scratching at it constantly. All the vets either told me they weren't taking new pets or it would be 8 weeks. When I called around 7:30pm they told me it would be a two hour wait and wouldn't be an issue but that they do triage. I drove 30 mins to get there and called to check in. The lady who answered was quite rude and told me they weren't accepting non-emergent pets and I had told her that the lady earlier said I could come down and she was like sure if you want to wait 6-8hours. I would've been more than willing to wait 8+ hours for my dog to be seen and to pay whatever the premium. However with the attitude I definitely will take my business elsewhere and never refer them. read more

A great place for animals. I reviewed them last year and it still stands - everyone from the front office to the assistants to the Vets care about the animals and their owners. They've now added a new service through "Pet Health" - an app that lets you review your pets record online. You can review appointments and see what important shots/dates are coming up. I can even order refills on our dogs medicine and get a notification when it's ready. Love it! They also send follow up surveys about their service, shows they care and look for ways to improve. read more
