The Pink Cactus is conveniently located on Spring Street and away from the busyness of King Street. We had a group of 8 which they were easily able to accommodate with outdoor seating which was great since it was going to be a couple hours before any other place nearby could seat us. We started with the chip and dip trio consisting of really amazing fried tortilla chips and 3 dipping options. The cheese, salsa, and sauce were good, but extremely small portions for sharing with more than 2 people. There are no substitutions here, so if you want a carb free rice bowl, you are out of luck. The only carb free option I saw was the chili rellano. It was good. Order 2 or 3 if you're hungry. The cocktails were fun. The pink cactus margarita pitcher was a table favorite. read more

In town for a quick trip. Popped by for a quick drink and some chips with queso. We sat at the bar since we weren't planning on being there long. We were excited for Mexican food but unfortunately, couldn't eat. My friend's order came out wrong after asking three times for no sour cream. When my food came out there was a hair. I had to fan my food the entire time while sitting at the table and ultimately only got through half a taco. I had a loss of appetite after seeing the amount of flies flying in my face and the food. After speaking with the waitress, she explained they lost so much staff and is overworked. This explains why she seemed rude moving so fast and in a rush. My bachelorette group went to Pink Cactus on a Friday night with a 9pm reservations. We arrive at 9:00 and are informed that the kitchen is out of food. We stepped outside to regroup and figure out where else to go, and another group of ladies overheard us and came up to say they were waiting to be seated (and weren't told anything about the restaurant being out of food). They went back up to the hostess stand with a member of our party and we all asked to clarify - Are you out of food or not? And they informed us that they had chips and tacos, but nothing else. But they had food. We were all seated and ordered tacos, which were fine. When we received our check, we noticed we were charged for 10 extra tacos which totaled an extra $80 almost. We were looking over the bill and the waitress came out and acted like she already knew there was an issue with our check. We are convinced we were told there were out of food because they didn't want to seat the bachelorette group, and then were overcharged because they didn't think we would notice. We were so excited to try this place. We stayed near here and after seeing many reviews about them we went here on our first night. It was happy hour, the prices are definitely good so that's a positive. The tacos were just okay. But the margaritas were absolutely horrendous. Straight tequila. Some would say this is good, but if you cannot enjoy your drink at all what is the point. All of the drinks were like this. Our server got our kids order wrong and charged us for a full adult order and then didn't change the price on the bill. We honestly at that point had two kids who just wanted to leave so we just respectfully paid and left. So, me and my two girlfriends came to pink cactus to get food and drinks after the bridge run. We first ordered chips and guacamole as well as a pitcher of margaritas where they checked our ids. We then received our chips and gauc but after 45 minutes had not received our pitcher or been checked on. The waitress then came back and said the manager thought we looked "too young" and asked for our ids to bring inside, which we waited 15 minutes to receive back. After this the waitress said our pitcher would be brought to the table but we waited 10 more minutes and decided to leave. I've heard that Charleston is a food town, and if Pink Cactus is any indication I believe it. I've been here since 07/20/20, and I've eaten at many restaurants, but Pink Cactus is where it's at. I started with the Chili Relleno which is by far the best take on the dish I've ever experienced. I was gonna stop there, but my gut told me I'd regret it if I didn't try the Tinga Chicken Quesadilla...it wasn't wrong. Didn't manage to get a picture of it, it was gone almost as soon as the plate was set down. It also bears mentioning that even the rice and beans served with the Quesadilla were great. How anyone can give this place more than 1 or 2 stars is confusing to me. The queso was bland, the salsa was gross, the chips were greasy, the margaritas were weak and the food wasn't any good (but at least it was really small portions to cut down on how much bad food we could eat). Two of our 4 meals had steak meat which was blood red raw. We asked for them to remove the uneaten raw meat and were told to get over it. The waitress was understanding but called the manager (that wasn't at work on a Friday night) and that person said no....and since she came back crying, I'm guessing it wasn't a polite no. I found this place on Instagram and we visited while in Charleston. The Pink Cactus marg is a prickly pear flavor and was the best marg I had while in Charleston. The lime on the glass had black salt on it which added great flavor to the drink. The guacamole was delicious, but the salsas weren't my style. They were saucy not chunky and the red salsa was inedible due to it being so spicy and I enjoy spicy food. Here's a great business model: reserve your best seating for investors and then tell your only customers in an empty restaurant at 5:30 on a Saturday that they cannot then push a few tables together to have comfortable seating instead of a high stop table with stools. 8 top that will spend at least $700 easily of locals that order and tip liberally. Granted they had no guarantee of this at the time but... WE WERE THEIR ONLY CUSTOMERS. The manager clearly had no issue with us leaving over this which baffles even the slightest customer oriented mind. Even if the high top was what was "agreed upon" over the phone when we were told reservations were not available but then to our faces we're told they just started up.... and we would have been likely fine taking the high top IF IT WAS BUSY..... I was very impressed with how generous the happy hour menu is - affordable margaritas, guacamole and tacos - and not just your average slimmer green sour mix margarita - FOUR different margarita options to choose from! Naturally, I wanted to try all four (but ended up only trying three). The Mango Margarita was #1 for me, sweet but not too sweet and beautifully served with a spice dipped lime slice. The guacamole portion was perfect for two and I love that it came with whole tortillas that you break into bite size chips. They didn't do online reservations which is why I called to give a heads up. The manager on the phone said they could accommodate us at the high top, I said cool. When we got there it was completely empty. The high top table looked super uncomfortable with tiny bar stools. So we sat at the back table. The waiter asked us to move because investors were coming. I asked what time, and he said they didn't know. I made a comment about the investors wanting customers to be happy. So we moved to the side, after we got situated the manager lady came out and asked us if I called earlier because we agreed on the high top. I said yes, but there is literally no one in here can we sit here? She said well we agreed I'm sorry I didn't realize we signed a contract about our table in an empty restaurant. Pink Cactus Mexican Restaurant has been in my list for a while and I finally got to experience all it had to offer the other day. It is located on Spring Street right across the street from Cannon Green. A parking area to the rear of the restaurant is helpful. They have an outdoor patio with heat lamps and plenty of beautiful cacti. Once you step inside you get that wow factor. It's cozy intimate and the aroma to die for. The bar is very well stocked with staff who are both knowledgeable and very chatty. The overall experience was very nice. The food is not your cheap Mexican food, it's an upscale version of Mexican fare with an Oaxacatan influence. The dishes I had from the appetizer menu were delicious and very flavorful. The presentation flawless. I loved the whole experience here. It's definitely an upscale take on the typical Mexican food found in many of the local establishments. So if you want to broaden your horizons definitely check this place out. Currently they are incorporating Restaurant Week!! read more
