The Grumpy Goat is a place that I've long heard about, but have yet to try until now! It's directly on Harbor View Rd with plenty of parking in front of and nearby. We went on quieter Friday night, which was actually nice as we were able to be seated right away and had our pick of a table on their outdoor patio area. As for being a local, this place hit the spot. Food options are very reasonably priced with nice delicious portions, enough to satisfy anyone's appetite. We order the guacamole and chips to start, followed by their rice bowls with shrimp and a side of their noteworthy brussels sprouts with jalapeno bacon, which I'd absolutely recommend! Service was good overall and we were happy to see they are very family and kid friendly. Pro Tip: Do yourself a favor and order a margarita as soon as you sit down, you'll be glad you did! Guten Appetit!

This was just an average experience for me. I was a bit annoyed to hear another server mention that happy hour was going on, yet our server didn't let us know. She also didn't check back very often. I did enjoy the guac and queso. The chips were also warm and fresh. The salsa and shrimp taco salad were mediocre at best. Just not a lot of flavor. My boyfriend said his tacos were good. The goat decor was cute and made me smile. I personally wouldn't go back.

Sadly disappointed with this place. The food looks better than it tastes. Had a lively bar scene and the service was excellent- but I wouldn't go back.

Blackened tuna taco was to die for - perfectly seared and flavors were on point. However despite being 1 of 2 tables in the place, our tacos took around 40 minutes to arrive. It seems they were pushing out lots of to go orders instead of the orders for customers in the restaurant. Goatarita was extremely sweet. All around good food and great prices though. Maybe we'll just order to go next time

The waitress was just okay, but the bigger issue was the quality of the dishes. We ordered calamari, fried green tomatoes, and mussels everything tasted like standard frozen, pre-prepared food. The mussels were the best of the group, mainly because of the sauce, which had decent flavor. For entrées, the redfish was overcooked and covered in a heavy sauce with no clear flavor. The fried flounder had almost no seasoning which is surprising for fried fish. The cheese grits were disappointing, with cheese that wasn't even fully melted, and the collard greens were overly heavy with pork fat. Drinks were watered down. Overall, aside from the welcoming host, the experience fell flat. I'd skip this one.

Inside, you'll find a small space with limited seating and a counter to order at. Lots of tables outside (both on their porch and out back in the beautiful trees), so plan your attire accordingly. Big group? Likely not sitting inside! They have a fairly large wine selection and beverage fridge, so you should be able to find something to make the whole group happy. I had the smoked fish dip, served with saltines and fresh sliced vegetables for dipping, along with the house oysters and a glass of white wine. The vegetables were sliced perfectly for scooping up the dip and made a fresh, crisp alternative to the saltines. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and delicious. The setup is casual and easy -- you walk up to the counter to order, and they give you a digital pager to let you know when your food is ready. I also appreciated details like the recycled utensils and the overall relaxed feel of the place. The service stood out before I even walked in. Someone was in the parking lot helping direct guests on where to park, which was a nice touch and made arriving easy. Great seafood, friendly service, a relaxed waterfront atmosphere, and a really enjoyable experience. Definitely worth a stop on James Island!

Service was top notch, everything was timed perfectly and the recommendations were on point. The ambiance was really great; classy but relaxed. We love trying new places, but with a 3y and 6mo old, we are always a bit nervous how they will be received. The staff here were so kind.
