My niece and sister came down from a mini vacation to visit me. I decided to treat them to the best frozen yogurt in Los Angeles which is Pinkberry. Since they live in Central California they never had Pinkberry but Menchies is pretty close to it though! My niece is 2 years old and full of energy so I was glad there was a water play area for kids right in front. The staff in Pinkberry was very friendly and nice....no complaints and the frozen yogurt was delish! This was my first visit to this Pinkberry in El Segundo and it was similar to the Pinkberry brand. We got our frozen yogurt and sat at the benches outside and my niece excitedly played in the water. She didn't like her froyo but no worries it didn't go to waste! Auntie finished hers for her! Meh experience. It has been a long time since I had Pinkberry, this location was my first time. Excited for a dessert after dinner, we found ourselves in this shop. I was pleasantly surprised to see new items on the menu. In particular, I was drawn to the milky ice cream selection with honey topping. I do like Honeymee and I figured it would be the same. The menu had a honeycomb topping and the front glass display had honeycomb. When I ordered the Honey Honey I was told they don't have anymore honeycomb and display was decor. I switched to Honey Mochi. When she dispensed the ice cream, it was a lot softer than it should be and was close to thick milkshake texture. When the staff applied the mochi, and then bottled Honey, I can see the mochi slowly sinking into the ice cream. I was worried about my dessert at this point, after seeing the Honey was from the squeeze bottle and the darkness of the color, I was afraid that it was going to be too sweet-- and I was right... the ice cream flavor itself was good, Honey over mochi was way too sweet and I had to end up scraping the topping that I paid for just to eat milkshake-like ice cream. Pinkberry isn't anything new anymore. They are everywhere and pretty much taken for granted by now. You generally know what to expect (or not). Even so, not all Pinkberry locations live up to the same standards. This one tucked into a corner of El Segundo Plaza just off Sepulveda stands out for a couple reasons. It's clean. As more and more self-serve froyo spots turn into a messy free-for-all, it's sometimes refreshing to visit a frozen yogurt shop that doesn't have sticky tables/chairs and napkins scattered around. The service was friendly. Efficiency, speed, ... and a smile seem a rare thing these days. Finding it when getting a cup of tart yogurt was nice. It's large and parking is free. No reason not to stop here when you know what you want. So, in summary, it's Pinkberry quality (6 flavors with couple dozen unlimited topping choices) with Pinkberry prices (about $5 for a medium) with the bonus of being clean, friendly, and convenient. I'm not a fan of Pinkberry. It is too tart for me. But after reading about Pinkberry's new chocolate flavor from Jolie D. and other Yelpers, I decided to give it another try. This Pinkberry is located in the El Segundo shopping complex with Whole Foods, Best Buy and Borders. This Pinkberry is kind of hard to find. There is a photo on Yelp that shows it hidden in the corner near the Banana Republic on the southwest end. This Pinkberry is a decent size with tables both inside and outside. Given the recent cold weather, the good number of tables inside was definitely a plus. The group in front of me sampled the chocolate, and it was not for them so they went with another flavor (coconut). I figured going in that their chocolate would taste similar to their tart original flavor but with a hint of chocolate. I did not bother sampling it. I just went with it and topped it with Cap 'N' Crunch, milk chocolate shavings, sliced almonds, and some gooey milk chocolate crunch. Probably one of the more unhealthy Pinkberry concoctions ever and a contradiction to the good-for-you concept of Pinkberry. I did not know this, but Pinkberry allows you to top it with as many toppings as you like. I always thought they charged you by the topping. Anyway, the chocolate was a very dark brown color. The chocolate was not tart at all. Very rich and a very strong chocolate flavor. In terms of frozen yogurt, it was definitely the most chocolate tasting frozen yogurt I've had. I liked it, but I imagine if you are a fan of the tart Pinkberry flavors, you may want to just stick with them. The toppings were quite good. The almonds were nice and crunchy. The Cap 'N' Crunch was Cap 'N' Crunch--great if you like the cereal (which I do). I've had the milk chocolate shavings before. They are nothing special, but I find the texture and taste better than your standard milk chocolate chips. The milk chocolate crunch was basically rice krispies in a gooey, fudgy chocolate sauce. Very good but probably not that good for you. This small cup of frozen yogurt with all the toppings ran $5. That is a little pricey for the size, but the flexibility in number of toppings made up for it. It was good, and I would get it again though I would probably try different toppings (or maybe just less toppings). I think the chocolate is a good option for people who are not a fan of their tart flavors. For fans of their tart flavors, I would be curious what they thought of it. Either way, Pinkberry has always been a love-it-or-hate-it thing; however, with their new chocolate flavor, there may just be something for everybody. Parking is free and easy to find (even during the busy holiday shopping season). read more

What's all the hype about? I paid close to $5 for a small yogurt with 5 raspberries on top. Doesn't it sound like I got ripped off? The regular flavor tasted the best; green tea was second; and coffee last. I ordered the regular yogurt and topped it with raspberries. It was nothing special. It was just... well... just that: yogurt. For $5 you can get better tasting yogurt at Whole Food's, but if you're going to splurge, you might as well get the real thing and go for the gusto. I was really confused on why the girl told me to start at the cash register to begin my order, aren't you supposed to start where the toppings are so you know what you want? So I finally busted my Pinkberry. I am not much into desserts but I heard so much about Pinkberry so when I noticed it was open I decided to check it out. I just got the original with pomegranate seeds. My bf and I shared a small and we both liked the yogurt because it was not too sweet and it tasted like yogurt vs. those places that say they are frozen yogurt but taste like ice cream. Of all the locations I've been to, this one is my favorite. Friendly staff and the seating options are great if you want to sit inside at a table, outside at a table, or in cushioned chairs near a small water fountain play area. The location is in the Plaza El Segundo which is amazing in itself. It feels like every time I come here there are new flavor a and they aren't just offering the typical yogurt, they always have smoothies and shaved ice (well something like it) and parfaits. I love all pinkberrys!! Tarty and fresh-the best froyo hands down! I love this location as it's in a shopping mall, and the venue is very nice! There is a lovely fountain right outside where parents can watch their children play while relaxing. I'm very impressed with their new mango flavor as it's all fruit! Hadn't been to Pinkberry in years so my friend and I decided to go the other night. While ordering, the employee notified me that toppings are now limited. So- you are only able to get 4 toppings. I don't understand the logic in this especially since the prices have not decreased. Next, a lot of toppings that used to be available are no longer offered. I was disappointed because I especially wanted the waffle cookie. Finally, the girl that was working had an attitude. Didn't pack my stuff to go. I had to ask for a lid and bag and she just threw the lid and bag at me. Horrible! Seems Pinkberry is a new trendy Fro-Yo franchise that is more about having a certain upscale taste, not in the yogurt, but in the decor! This one is trying to be pretty upscale and very trendy in appearance. Pebbled floors, clear colored plastic upright dining chairs surrounding orange colored rounder tables, a full length frosted glass cavity on the back wall filled with a large colorful floor to ceiling bouquet of silk flowers, clean decor, lines and graphics. The Fro-yo is secondary to the appearance. It is like turning to the Food Channel to watch your favorite chefs make great dishes and getting Home and Garden TV instead with interior designers helping average people redecorate their house on a budget. But they went over budget and still had nothing to eat that night. There are 3 choices of Fro-Yo flavors, then there are smoothies to try to compete with Jamba, and shaved Ice to compete with Matsumoto in Hawaii. There are only about 5 flavors of both of those. There are 3 Fro-Yo machines, and about a dozen toppings (with a greater emphasis on fresh fruit than traditional yogurt places like TCBY, which has receded into Airports with Pizza Hut). That's it! 3 sizes of fro-yo. (Thankfully no artificial Romance language based Faux names for their Sizes, like Starbucks' use of the French High Speed train namesake, "TGV" which is short for Tall, Grande, Venti.) I tried the Coffee flavor, Medium size, for $4.50. There was a decent amount of Fro-Yo in the oversized cup. But the Fro-Yo tasted like Robitussin!, with just a very small hint of coffee aftertaste. I kept spooning it in my piehole in hopes that the real Coffee flavor would jump out, as if the first taste might have been a lingering acidic berry flavoring that hadn't cleared the Fro-Yo machine yet from some previous unknown yogurt intercourse, like sloppy seconds (this was my first Pinkberry experience, so I was giving them the benefit of doubt, since I am a gentle and patient lover, of yogurt that is!) The taste never improved. Little or no coffee taste. Sanka instant coffee hads1,000 times more flavor. MJB, Folger's, Denny's and your grandparents favorite tea colored coffee at the old diner served by Myrtle, all would have more coffee flavor from their residue rings on the saucer of their coffee cups after it was sent through the 180 degree commercial dishwasher than my PinkBerry Coffee Yogurt. And the dishwasher would have washed off the Robitussin, unlike Pinky's! I guess I am used to the rich, smooth and creamy flavors of Espresso Gelato, so perhaps my comparison is unfair? There is less fat in PinkBerry's than Gelato. So I guess girls can eat it guilt free? Is that the catch? I remember taking an International Marketing class at UC Extension, where we were supposed to invent a business and create a business plan in a foreign country as a group project. Since I was the oldest of the group, and the others were 20 somethings more interested in Sex, Lies and Drama, I pretty much did the project. The Idea? It was a Fro-Yo franchise business in France. The name? "Yo Cool". It would leverage the popularity of Yogurt in France with the growing phenomenon of Urban culture from the US. While ordering your favorite,outrageous "Yo Cool" fro-yo, you would be getting down with a funky Hip-Hop beat in a hip and cool store design. Commercials could have been "Yo Cool" instead of Bud's "Wazzup?!" Or, it could be a celebrity endorsement, like Sylvester Stallone in a 15 second commercial, , shouting "Yo!" with a frown over his gritty, sweaty face, nearly hidden by his headband, and then the next scene, after spooning some Yo Cool into his mouth, he would smile at the camera and say, "Cool..." as the camera pans out to show his black sharkskin suit and him all cleaned up and street slick. I should have been like the founders of PinkBerry. Go to Sand Hill Road in Palo Alto, pitch the idea to Venture Captialists, get professional designers to create the store experience, and expand, expand, expand! Yo, Cool.....! Yo Cool would have had a lot more "Flava" in many ways than the cutesy little Hello Kittyish merchandise and Robitussin Fro-Yo of PinkBerry! $4.50 for a dessert of Robitussin and no coffee flava. Not anything near my idea of "Yo Cool". More like Yo, Fool! read more

I cashed in my free small yogurt with toppings birthday offer. I got a combination of original, mango, and peanut butter yogurt with granola and waffle cone pieces. Now I know why I usually like my frozen yogurt plain. The sweet toppings make the tart flavors even more tart and detract from the true yogurt flavors. Unadulterated is much better! read more

Not excited at all about the new layout of the ordering/pay process at the El Segundo Plaza location. I've been coming to PB for years and years. I used to come 3-4 times a week! This new "pay up front" before selecting toppings and getting it built gives the customer a very awkward feeling. All customized food establishments build the product BEFORE asking the the customer to pay (Chipotle, Blaze Pizza, ColdStone, Subway.. Etc). This new setup is not welcoming to the consumer at all. read more

Having heard of all the hype about Pinkberry... When my friend and I flew to Cali for vacation over the weekend the first thing on our to do list was to look for Pinkberry!! While we were driving around, we randomly spotted our first Pinkberry. I guess we didn't really have to look that hard because Pinkberry is everywhere... in the LA area at least. We tried the original flavor and the green tea flavor. They were both good but it wasn't oh my gosh I'm in heaven good. Perhaps we had our expectations set too high but overall, I still love it. It was a fairly warm day so it was refreshing. The only thing I think would have better my experience is if the strawberries they used (maybe it was just this particular location?) are fresh ones.. mine tasted like those preserved strawberries from a jar. Oh, they also came out with the new Pomegranate flavor and we had a sample tasting and it was good too. There wasn't a line when we visited the El Segundo Pinkberry. I had such a great experience at the Pinkberry tonight. My husband and I went to another ice cream store closer to our house called swirl and I was treated badly. But when we got into Pinkberry we were greeted, sampled different flavors and was treated with respect of paying customers should be. I wished I had the guys name that helped us.
