    Old Speckled Hen on Nitro

This was my first time eating at Piper's. We went for brunch and I would say it was a 10/10 for me. The pub menu was super authentic-same with the tap list. They had soccer playing, it was great. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the Belgian waffle with chicken and maple syrup. The fried chicken was so tender and the outside was so crispy. It was perfectly done. My husband had Scotch eggs and Shepard's pie and it was amazing. Again-great tap list. They had local craft beer on tap including Dancing Gnome, Cinderlands, and Two Frays-but also some European beers. I had the Old Speckled Hen, 5%, from Suffolk, England. It was an ESB on nitro which was creamy and bitter. It was great. We had great service despite a busy morning brunch crowd. We went around 11 and our party of 4 was seated right away. Definitely a cool spot if you're looking for an authentic pub experience.

So glad that Pipers is open again for lunch. I've missed their food (that you can't get next door at the Pub Chip Shop). The salmon was cooked great. The tartar for the salmon was amazing. The chips aka fries were terrific once I smothered them in malt vinegar.

Dropped by Piper's Pub for lunch last week. Beautiful bar and atmosphere. Feels like a classic Pittsburgh mill town bar. Bar tender/waiter was so helpful, nice to see a pleasant smile. Now, for the food - fish and chips. Likely the dish ordered most often, and for good reason. Ample portion, fried to perfection. Fish was flaky and no lingering grease on the breading. Almost a tempura style coating. Chips were crispy. Better than most. So A+ food, excellent service, and a cold draft. Even had a side of coleslaw that was as it should be, not sloppy or milky, tasted fresh and would highly suggest. Will be back - a nice find!

Chicken & Waffles w/ sausage gravy -- excellent flavors & moist

Great food & a chill vibe. Came here for a family brunch. For drinks my husband had the Pimms Cup which he loved, not too sweet according to him. I had the Tequila Negroni- not too sweet nor fruity for me either which I loved. A very, very good cocktail. For brunch app-- we had the Scotch Eggs-- Oh So Good!! The waitress recommended maple syrup for the scotch eggs & maaann was it delish! Better than the side dipping sauce that came with the plate. Our 6yr old had the chicken tenders- the chicken has good flavor & was moist. My husband had his usual Chicken & waffles- chicken had the same flavor as the chicken tenders- very delicious. He enjoyed his dish. I had the Toad in the Hole- -sausages inside a HUGE Yorkshire pudding topped with mashed potato & brown gravy. The pudding was savory &crispy. Good price for great food considering how most places' quality of food has decreased while prices are skyrocketing. I can say we all truly loved this spot.

Piper's is the quintessential English pub! I stopped by on a Saturday around 5:30 for dinner. Plenty of seating was available when I arrived and started to get busier around 6:30 when I left. I sat in the bar area to watch games on the TVs. Piper's has a lengthy list of drinks - I love that they have Arsenal cider! The service was quick, and the food was delicious.

I saw some reviews stated that this is very Irish food. I came for the Shepherd Pie but it they don't have it anymore(not with the pastry pie at the top, now they have with mashed potato on the top instead, named Cottage Pie) Sausage Roll is the only thing with the pie so I ordered it. But the pantry layer is pretty thin, mostly is the sausage. The sausage is blend, mostly only taste the spice. Cottage Pie contains Stout braised beef stew with mashed potatoes, mushrooms and carrots in gravy sauce. Fried Chicken with Waffle in gravy taste the best, which is my favorite Thick waffle with light gravy white sauce, very special combination. There are also some grounded meat on the top. Staffs are also very friendly. Overall, This is a nice Pub though.

Really tasty food! Stopped in here about 2 weeks ago on a Friday. Got the fish & chips, scotched eggs (my first time ever trying them- SO unique and delicious) and my boyfriend had the cottage pie. We had a couple of great IPAs as well. Will definitely be back. Super laid back & nice place with no frills, good food, and good beer! Our server was also very sweet and all the food was out quickly & still piping hot! Definitely recommend this spot

LOVED our dinner at this place…read more We came here for dinner while visiting Pittsburgh. The first thing that struck me was the interior decor. Very industrial and moody with an open kitchen/preparation area that adds some intrigue. I do like to see the happenings of what's going on as someone with zero attention span. Service was excellent. George was fantastic. He kept a close eye on us without being overbearing. He anticipated what we might need so we didn't spend one second waiting to order anything. The menu is not endless or overwhelming which, presumably, allows them to focus on the items that are listed. I have decision panic so it was kinda nice to have less things to choose from. They asked if there were any allergies or dietary restrictions so I mentioned my vegetarianism. George went through the menu and pointed out the vegetarian options including what seems like it is vegetarian but isn't. They had TWO vegetarian entree options and fortunately the non-mushroom one was something I probably would have ordered anyway: pesto with walnuts, arugula, and a very generous amount of grated cheese. To start, I ordered the Brussels sprouts whichc I was warned had fish sauce. This was fine but nothing that blew me away. GF, on the other hand, loved this. GF ordered the wedge which was brought to our attention as vegetarian with the bacon on the side, which was her request. We ended up sharing both, a large part of that was because hers came out first and I couldn't wait but I'm so glad because the wege was FANTASTIC. The dressing? holy fuck pure ecastasy. The wedge was more like a filet shape which was much easier to eat. Who decided on the wedge shape anyway? The lettuce was so fresh and crisp and went wonderfully with that orgasmic dressing and breadcrumbs. Back to my pasta. Also delectable. Noodles were al dente. The sauce was creamy and packed that pesto umami flavor. The walnuts were a really nice contrast in texture. Everything about it absolutely fucking slapped. GF ordered the mushroom entree which came served on a bed of barley which, don't mind if I do, had a few forkfuls to "sample" for "my review". Again, so fucking good. Because it was my birthday, George provided a dessert (yuzu maybe?) that was served inside a meringue-esque igloo, creamy perfect balance of sweet and tart custard with some berry business underneath. Wonderful. I almost forgot their spectacular cocktails! Holy shit, literally they have a CORN CHIP cocktail that I could not pass up. It comes with two massive cornchips on top of a flavored foam. When you bring the glass up to sip, the cornchips are right in front of your nose and their aroma sets the stage for the drink which was STRONG. It wasn't as corn chip forward as I expected but I understand that flavor is probaly hard to create. For my second drink, I ordered the blue one which was refreshing, light, and really good. GF ordered a spritz which was gorgeous "it was good". For second round, I picked out some uranium thing that was very cucumbery, GF says, "it was good". I just read it outloud to her. "it's true!" Fantastic meal at a great place.

I tried a black cherry ale that was delicious. My husband got a Vienna lager he enjoyed. He got the black and gold pizza with potatoes, garlic sauce, pepper, res onion parmesan, and provolone. It is fired in their brick oven with a crispy crust. He enjoyed it but it was a little over done and it was hard to distinguish the toppings as the char was heavy. I got the carbonara. It was definitely not traditional. The sauce was very thick and almost floury. They serve it with pork belly, which does not give the same punch of flavor to cut through the sauce as guanchali or bacon. The papardelle noodle were dry and clumpy. The dish was very heavy. Do not recommend. The place is chill. It is close to the theater. I might try it again if in the area.
