I had really high hopes because of all of the hype surrounding the place. I mean if you are taking a boat to get there, it had better be good right? Not at all what I expected. I'll give it 3 stars just because I had a burger and it wasn't terrible. The main issue was after being on the boat with little ones they all want chicken strips and the fryer was broken so that really limits their menu. If you're looking for gourmet food, fast service and a clean dining room than this place is not for you. Be warned that Pirate's Cove has greasy burgers, fries and pizza. It takes forever to get your food and the dining area is covered with dogs. If you're cool with the above then you'll love this place. One of the best places on the water to hang out, listen to live music and people watch. The crowd is diverse and all having a great time. Come by boat or car. Just make sure you have a DD b/c the marine police sometime patrol the bay looking for boats leaving the Cove and police sometimes patrol the highway leaving the cove. Many people love this place and yes the bushwackers are great. Food is that if a very grease spoon. Dogs run in and out of the kitchen. Dog poop all on the beach. No ac but bathrooms. Almost everyone is local. We run grab a drink n keep on cruising. read more

Went over by boat on a Thursday which was not crowded when arrived at 12:30pm. Waited about one hour and half for my order to be put together. Others were complaining too. There was plenty of employees however very slow service. There are even signs hinting their service is slow. Food was not the greatest. The food was good. They have very limited options, but I recommend the onion rings, they're delicious. It is a place where you can dock and eat, and many people swim while waiting for their food. There is a lot of dogs walking around, which makes it fun for the kids but can get annoying when they beg for food. We had to wait a while for our food, but it was also a rushed time. Their workers don't wear name tags or uniforms, and they walk around yelling the name the food was for. This can get confusing as they don't look like workers. They got our order wrong and we had to wait for them to re-do it, but we didn't mind because there was the dogs and the docks to swim and play with. read more

I just don't even know where to begin - other than the fact that it is on the water, nothing else about our experience was positive. They were really crowded so it took a few minutes to find a boat slip, which is to be expected. As soon as we got off the boat, we went to get in line to order. The line was probably about 15 minutes long, which was also expected due to how busy they were. We ordered burgers, hot dogs, and onion rings - nothing complicated. We found a table and waited for our food to arrive. We waited and waited... After 30 minutes, we noticed that people that came in after us were already served and leaving. At that point, my husband inquired and was told to be patient. After that, a food runner noticed that we had been there for a long time and asked for our receipt so he could look into it. He mentioned something about the chili for our hot dogs holding things up (which was strange because we saw lots of chili dogs being served). After 45 minutes, my husband went back to the counter and asked again. He told her we had been there for 45 minutes and she jokingly said that happens and that sometimes it can be over an hour. Shortly after that, another food runner stopped and asked if we had received our food - still no! At the hour mark, my husband inquired with someone else and he said he would not look into it as they were already aware we were waiting. We were just getting ready to leave when our food arrived (honestly we would have left a lot sooner if we did not have to pay in advance). At that point, we were all so hungry that it wouldn't have mattered if the food was good or bad. The biggest thing that bothered all of us was not that they clearly lost our order in the shuffle, but the fact that they acted like it didn't matter because they were going to be busy no matter (which they will because of their location). read more

This place is good considering it's a small boat dock for people to pull up and get a beer and something to munch in the middle of a day of boating. My sausage and Kraut was good but drowned in mustard, and my dad's burger was a little better than what you might expect. Self serve the day we were there for lunch (came by car). Food was mediocre. Definitely not the best burger. I'd MUCH prefer Tin Cow in Pensacola over this. We brought our dogs, and they aren't aggressive, but most everyone let their dogs leash-less and even a pretty chilled dog might snap if another dog is up in its business. You never know if a dog is going to snap. The salad was just iceberg lettuce. Costed $7. They also had speakers around the seating areas, and if you weren't careful where you sat, the speakers were so loud, you couldn't hear yourself think. The wooden benches were soaked through, so you didn't leave without a wet rear. The cups for self-serve drinks were tiny, and the walk to the fountain was far. The biggest disappointment was that out of the six in my party, four of us were served our food within 10 minutes, but the other two didn't get their meals for roughly 45 mins, and they only brought it out after two complaints. They stated that "the grilled chicken on the salad and the hot dogs take a long time to cook." I'm not sure what kind of weiners and chicken they make, but it shouldn't take 45 minutes. This place was a real letdown. All of the reviews on Yelp raved about it, but if I were you, I'd pass this place up. I do have to commend this place for having a dog-friendly environment, even if they don't have it set up very well. Like myself, vacationers bring their dogs with them on trips, and it's nice to go out and not have to worry about them being alone. With very VERY few dog-friendly restaurants, this was nice. We have kayaked and paddle boarded to and from this location. It's very dog friendly and we bring our dogs to socialize (they need a life too...) They like tromping and playing in the water as much as we do, kinda they are in training. It's nice to have place that your dog can tag along. We have never had problems with the service or the food. This is a laid back atmosphere. The Bushwhackers is what Pirates Cove is known for and the pups of course. You can arrive by boat or car and no shirt or shoes are required..(unless you are a female, that might be frowned upon if you walked in topless)......... If you don't like dogs don't come here..... the dogs love everyone, they don't care who you are...... Enjoy! read more

Last Sunday I found myself with my wife at Pirates Cove . We called ahead and asked if the outside deck was pet friendly and they said "yes" so we brought along both of our hounds. The outside deck was right on the water which is very cool. It appeared that most of the crowd were locals and were very talkative and friendly. Several people brought there dogs with them on the outside deck. We walked up to the inside bar and the bartender took our order, he was very nice and the process went quick. We both ordered cheese burgers and they were super good, I believe they were made from fresh hand patted meat. You don't see that much anymore. I had the onion rings with my burger and they were made with real onions , not the mushy onion substance rings. I had two bushwhackers to drink, we were told they were the house drink. They put a lot of booze in my drinks - "winning". It would be a great place to spend the afternoon with friends and family. read more

I once loved to go there for the past 8 Year's but unmanageable dogs and a really bad bar tender with zero social-skills, kills it for me. The last 2 times both of my dogs were attacked by a couple of Sooner hounds and my dog is only 8 months old . The other was 18 1/2 yrs old. Neither would hurt a fly. These attack dogs just showed up a couple of years ago. It is not a dog friendly place anymore. Of course if you have a 125 lb Rottweiler with a taste for blood, that's the place for you. If you are persnickety, if you are snooty, if you're going to get upset because there is a dog under your table, if you can't deal with the floor being unfinished wood that is worn smooth from years of sandy flip flops and bare feet, if you expect your food to get served up in a rush like a McBurger joint... this is not the place for you. Pirate's Cove runs on island time. The food is cooked from scratch, probably by someone who looks like a holdover from the hippie era but the fare is consistently good. It's not a stainless steel, sterile sort of place but it's clean where it matters. Order a Bushwhacker from the bar and sit back and relax. Your food will get there when it gets there. This is an old, wood framed building on pilings, right next to the beach. It's a hold over from an earlier era and I hope it never changes. You are greeted and treated like family here. My wife and I travel and sail a lot and this is our favorite destination. After our first visit and though we can only make the trip a couple of times a year at most, we are greeted by name and get hugs from staff and locals. Last time we arrived by sailboat, one of the locals announced our arrival by trumpeting on a conch horn as we were coming in. If you are boating the ICW in that part of the world, and if your boat is not too big, you can dock and tie off in OUR spot on the back porch. Tell them charlie and Isy sent you, order a Bushwhacker, kick back and relax while the rest of the world bustles past without you. If anyone from Pirate's Cove reads this, please y'all, don't ever change. The new bathrooms were good... I mean REALLY good but other than that, don't change. You are a one of a kind, authentic, wonderful, dive sort of place where Hemingway would feel at home. read more
