When we first arrived at the resort, we were in awe by the beautiful landscaping. We arrived early and decided to have a cocktail at the resort bar before our dinner reservation at 7:30PM. There was live music in the lounge area. When we checked in for our reservation, we were seated right away by a window, which I requested. The view was nice. Our waitress was quiet and seemed very busy with multiple tables. For appetizers, we ordered the fried quail knots and a bowl of soup. For dinner, we ordered the duroc pork chop and 10 oz filet. For sides, we ordered Bayside Blue Mac and Potato Hash. Overall, everything was VERY rich and decadent, heavy. The pork chop was tough, the filet was very thick and tough, the sides were salty, saucy, and heavy. Overall, the resort is nice and the view inside the restaurant is pretty but the food was too heavy and rich for my liking.

Well I really wanted to like this place....stopped in on a Friday evening shortly before 6:30. We…read moreordered margaritas, guacamole, a cheese dip and a kids meal. We then ordered our meals after we received our water. The dips then came out followed shortly by the kids meal. The Margaritas took a bit to come out, we were told the bar was slammed. Okay, I get it, Friday evening, Spring Break, no worries. Our food was another story...After we watched 6 other tables with 4 or more guests that came in after us (4 and a toddler) order, eat, pay and leave and we still didn't have our food, and had been told 3 separate times that the kitchen was running behind (eye roll), and an hour had now lapsed since being seated, it was time to ask for a manager. How can 6 other tables that got seated and ordered AFTER us, order, get their appetizers, bar drinks and food, pay and leave and another table get seated and get their food and we still didn't have our food if the kitchen was running behind? (I think perhaps someone forgot to enter our order...???) We were done, the toddler was now screaming, we were ready to go. I did say I'd pay for what we did receive, a kids meal, the drinks and the guacamole and the Manager told us she would take care of this. Thank you! . There's also a photographer that goes around taking pictures and will give you a postcard for free, and offers additional pictures for purchase. (Giving 2-stars only because the guac and drinks were fantastic! And I can imagine the food is wonderful as well. Sorry we didn't get to find out.)

The atmosphere and location of The Gulf are unmatched. Beautiful views, palm trees, and right on…read morethe water. It was very busy when we arrived, so finding a seat was a little stressful. My advice, find a seat, have someone order at the order window, then head to the bar to order drinks. The wait to order food took about a half hour. It was very quick to get our drinks. We were able to snag a couch area on a platform. It was so comfy and we loved the views. A heads up- if you snag a couch like this, kids will get up on the platform and jump off of it. People will step up on the platform and walk extremely close to you. I had to ask a kid to stop throwing sand by us because we were eating our dinner. It was a little chaotic. We were extremely patient and understand, but I could see some people being very upset and annoyed. After ordering, our food came out pretty quick. I started with the coconut grouper bites and they were phenomenal. Light breading, lightly sweat, and flaky. I had the Gulf Grilled Cobia and it was phenomenal. The fish was tender, flaky, and light. No fishiness at all. The sauce on the fish was also delightful. My husband and son had the fajita skewers and both enjoyed them. My husband also had the peel and eat shrimp and said they were amazing at The Gulf. Our drinks were okay. We had better drinks at other places during the week, but they weren't bad. We would return, but try to come on an off-time that wasn't so busy.

Our meals came with fries and the fries tasted like they were cooked two hours ago in old frying oil. Then, we ordered drinks, I got a margarita and it tasted super weird like they put a bunch of club soda in it?? So yeah the environment was nice but if you go I wouldn't order anything. There's another restaurant across the street Cobalt that we went to the night before and their food was amazing! The food quality was way higher and the prices were great!
