I have been living in San Juan for about 3 weeks, but I have not had a chance to enjoy my favorite thing to eat until I was recommended this restaurant by a friend. I wanted to try a pizza with local toppings. Boy, am I glad I did. The pizza had an interesting balance of sweet/tangy plantain flavor with the normal flavors of ground beef and tomato sauce. It was delicious! The crust was good too, but it was on the harder side to chew. The pizza was slightly more expensive than I would prefer. I paid $20 for a large. I wish it was cheaper. First place we went to eat during our visit to Puerto Rico. It is a small but lovely restaurant located near the beach. There's seating outside and inside, and the ambiance is wonderful. The service was also great. We had 4 different kinds of pizzas put into 2 large ones, which all tasted so delicious! My favorite was one with ground beef and fried plantains. Yes, FRIED PLANTAINS on a pizza. We also had these fries with a delicious sauce which we ordered as soon as we saw them being served to another table. This place was pretty decent. The location is really excellent, especially if you're in the Ocean Park area. If not, then it might not be worth a trip over. There aren't many servers and so they are often running around, especially during peak hours. This can make getting additional help or service somewhat frustrating. I came because they had a vegan option on the menu. Our waiter was not informed about what could be made (or already was) vegan on the menu aside from that one explicitly titled dish. This was a shame because I didn't really want the pizza, but had no other options as far as I knew of. The vegan pizza was pretty strange. It came with a ton of mushrooms on it (which I hate and weren't listed on the menu), some other veggies, flavorless hummus, and some very strange pesto with coconut oil. It was a strange dish and I almost certainly wouldn't order it again unless I were drunk and on the lookout for vegan food late at night. It seemed like there were a few other items on the menu that were likely already vegan or could be made vegan, so if their waiters were more aware of these options I would be more likely to come back again. read more

ALL THAT for no reason, the pizza was cold asf, like it had just been WAITING there. And the calamari was about 12 bucks.. 12 bucks for like 8 cold sad pieces, NOT WORTH IT. I really wanted to like it but that really upset me. I'm able to reason with a long wait time in exchange for hot fresh food but I'm not able to reason with a long wait time AND cold ass food. U can3 for someone's birthday who loves pizza and what better than fancy pizza. The service was very attentive. We first stopped by for beers and empanadas. The beer selection was fantastic! Even carrying gems like Ommegang! The empanadas, while a third of the size of a proper empanada, were the best tasting empanadas we had on our trip. We came back a few days later to try the pizza. Ordered a large Margarita. When it was first given to us, it was very soupy on top due to excess olive oil and grease. We gave it 10-15 min to cool down while we had beers and the grease and oil had soaked right up into the crust! The flavor of this pizza was to die for! One slice will almost fill you up! Pretty hard to mess that up - but it was a mess. Tomato sauce topped with regular cheese topped with pale tasteless slices of tomato and some decent búfala mozzarella - and drizzled with pesto rather than fresh basil. Crust way too thick and doughy. I was very disappointed. But the pulpo was amazing, as was the house mojito. And it has a great outdoor dining space. I'd go back for the pulpo. Pizza in Puerto Rico? Heck yes! I generally have a rule where I only eat local cuisine on trips, but after reading the reviews, I knew I needed to make an exception. We decided to stop by Pirilo on a Sunday evening thinking we'd casually get a pizza and then walk along the beach. And whoa, it was PACKED and jumping, truly "Hot and New" as described by Yelp! Everyone there seemed to be from the neighborhood, so you knew it was going to be great. We walked, but if you have to drive, there was valet. Luckily we snagged a table in the back where there's a/c and a ton of seating. We were greeted by at least three friendly hosts/servers who told us about their local craft beer selection on draft and a few of the highlights on the tapas and pizza menu. Everyone was super helpful! As for the menu, there was SO much to choose from. Generally I don't like big menu because the lack creativity and really, how can they be good at all of them, but this was cool and everything looked fantastic! Since we could decided between a few pizzas, we decided to get two smalls (4 slices) vs a large (8). 1) Pizza with chipotle carnitas and pica de gallo 2) Pizza with a vodka sauce, spinach and garlic Both were good - hot, good crust, nicely seasoned. I do wish the vodka sauce had a little more flavor, but the spinach was outstanding, including the local beer recommendations. Some of the most creative pizza I've ever had! All in all, I'd totally recommend Pirilo. It was a tad expensive ($50ish) for three beers, two small pizzas, and a small tapa, but an enjoyable, tasty and eclectic experience that wasn't swarming with tourists. Bon appetit! read more

Initially, I didn't want to come to Puerto Rico and eat pizza but it's really close to my hotel and was open on Memorial Day so I thought, "why the heck not?" The pirilo one, the salmon one and the tripleta one. If you are starving you will eat the regular pizza, but if you order appetizers and drinks you could easily share one with another person. These are very different pizzas and if you are a turist, you can still get Puerto Rican flavors while eating pizza. Many locals in the city like this place. Stopped in for a quick dinner after a long beach day. We left the stuffed mushroom appetizers and had a nice refreshing salad after a lot of fried food the past few days. We got a house special Mojito which I think was sweetened with guava as well as a classic and both were very refreshing and among the better drinks we've had in San Juan. We got a pizza with goat cheese, mushrooms, and lots of red onions. The staff was extremely friendly and helped us decide what to get- all the food sounded so good that we struggled to narrow down our food options. We ended up getting tapas- 2 empanadas stuffed with spinach and cheese, that came with a side of garlic aioli. The empanadas were flaky and crispy and went well with the sauce. We also split a large pizza and got it half and half. Half rosada (pink sauce with spinach, pesto, and cheese), and half mushroom (with truffle oil and a minced mushroom sauce). They were both delicious but the mushroom one was definitely our favorite. The pina coladas we got had rum and vodka and were delicious.
