Inedible!!! Picked up our order at the restaurant. Upon opening it at home we found that the large wonton soup my husband ordered only had two, tiny, barely holding together, wontons in it. There was broth, mushrooms, and peas. My hot sour soup was a salt brine-not anything like the soup I remember. Also, my Hunan Sesame was inedible as well and it had the same problem. The only flavor was pure salt! Needless to say, we paid over $50 for some spring rolls and almond chicken which were the only things we could eat. I disputed the charge and will never return! Sadly, years ago this was my mother's favorite place to go for lunch and my family loved going with her. I'm glad she can't experience how far it has fallen :( read more

The food is tasty. However the experience is kind of weird. When you walk in they ask whether you're having buffet or hibachi, and what you want to drink. Then you pay ahead of your meal. Apparently they only have one server who brings drinks and clears plates. Definitely takes away any "ambiance" in the experience. Also, outside the place looks like a dump. My family and I came in tonight at 8 o'clock to have hibachi. We did not know they closed at 8:30 or we would not have came in so late. Brea was our server and she was extremely kind, attentive and made sure my grandkids and children were happy. Maurino was our chef and he was so friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience . Disappointed in lunch buffet. For $12.95 ($12 seniors) Not many choices and what they had was mostly chicken, one beef and no fish or seafood. No salad bar. The "egg drop" soup had peas and. Little carrots but just a chicken broth - no eggs. I usually love egg drop soup and this was tasteless. Sweet n sour chicken was just breaded chicken fingers - no taste. Fried rice also tasteless. The one Chinese vegetables I seen was almost all celery & onions. Only dessert was almond cookie and it was ok. On the positive side service was good for drink refills and checking out. Restroom had no hot water to wash hands (this is a big health violation because must wash hands with at least warm water for germs). So good service was the only positive thing to say about this place. I've had a better meal and cleaner restroom at McDonalds. read more

We called ahead to let them know we had a rather large group. We got there, the place is almost empty. Maybe 3 tables there. No food in the buffet if there was it was minuscule. The server was awesome and nice, she gets 5 stars. But food not there for over an hour is just not heard of for a buffet restaurant. The sweet and sour chicken coating was pretty gross. I ordered Pi's via GrubHub tonight and was very disappointed. The delivery driver came straight from the restaurant to my house and yet the food still arrived cold. The egg drop soup had little flavor. The crabmeat cheese tasted ok, but were cold. My fried rice was little more than soggy white rice with a few peas and carrots. And the garlic beef was lukewarm at best...90% meat and the 10% of veggies were undercooked. Don't get me wrong I like a little crunch to my veggies, but the carrots were practically raw. Went here for the lunch buffet. Service was good and the interior is nice. Jasmine or green tea available (green tea is from bags but good, not bitter upon standing). Lunch buffet is adequate, with no vegetarian options other than an unremarkable vegetable fried rice with almost no vegetables, the plain white rice, and a vegetable lo mein with very few vegetables (the occasional thin shred of carrot). If you ask for it they'll bring you some bagged salad with your choice of one of two dressings. At least the dishes are labeled so you know what you're getting, and if you like shrimp, they've got it in some sort of white sauce. The other vegetarian ordered off the menu and got vegetables and tofu in a white sauce, which is probably the way to go if you're vegetarian. The onion rings were good, if a bit reminiscent of whatever else was fried in the oil. Three kinds of soup (Russian vegetable?) which I didn't try as I figured there was no way I'd be able to eat any of them. Standard dry almond cookies you'd get anywhere and the fortune cookies were stale; I like fortune cookies but didn't finish mine. If you eat meat and you're looking for standard Americanized Chinese food in nice surroundings, you might like this place. Getting out afterwards might be a trick as you'll be cut off by all the people turning into the McDonald's drivethrough next door. read more

I recently ordered a very large catering order here and had the lunch buffet within the last two weeks. My recommendation is, do not waste your money. The owners appear to have given up on this restaurant, so do not support the decision. When we picked up the catering order in the hostess/bar area, there was a terrible odor. I was worried it was the food, turns out it wasn't. However, the food was nothing special. During the lunch buffet, the restaurant had a musty smell, the carpets are not clean, and your arms stuck to the table. There was a smaller selection of food, however, I stuck to only the egg rolls after tasting the broccoli beef and spicy chicken. We ordered takeout on the request of friends of ours with whom we would be visiting that evening. We were told how long before our order would be prepared and arrived at that time. When we arrived and paid we were handed our takeout in one bag and departed for our friends house (who lived in the next town over mind you). When we arrived and opened our bag we found items missing and a botched order in general. We phoned your establishment to report/inquire about it and was told quite flippantly that the items we were reporting missing were left there on the counter. The person on the phone even asked my wife what could they do to rectify the situation regarding the missing items as were absolutely not driving all the way back in there to pick up the items that were not handed to us when we picked up our order in the first place and my wife requested that you guys refund us in the very least for the MISSING menu items. Needless to say we were told that was going to happen and we are coming up on three weeks from the time we ate there. Not cool Pi's. We won't be returning. It pains me to write this review as Pi's has long been our favorite restaurant in Midland. Today we arrived at 4pm and the dinner buffet wasn't set yet but we figured we would have our soup until the buffet was set up. The soup was barely warm and that was just the beginning of a poor experience. I understand that many things have changed during COVID however I don't think that is any excuse for putting out a poor product. They no longer offer chicken skewers, donuts or fried shrimp on the buffet yet have raised the price to $15.45, up from $9.95. I don't mind that given the fact that food costs have skyrocketed but the food was nowhere near the quality that we have come to expect from Pi's over the years. The sesame chicken was horrible and nothing was hot even though it was just brought out from the kitchen. I witnessed the you g man tending the buffet carry out food trays, set them down and run his fingers through his hair before placing them on the steam table on more than one occasion. The final straw was after dinner I went to the rest room and when I returned I asked my husband if he had received his senior discount, when he asked the young man behind the register he said no, but that's good because you don't look 65 right? He never offered to do a refund for the difference but suggested that in the future we make sure to tell the waitress. The money isn't a big deal but after such a poor dining experience it really struck me wrong. We won't be returning there anytime soon. The one bright spot is that the servers are always smiling and upbeat. Unfortunately they probably will not make as much with the declining quality of food being sent out to the tables! read more

I had to call multiple times to talk to anyone and when they said they would credit me they closed down the next day because their staff has COVID-19. I just want my money back at this point . My go-to buffet restaurant in town! Even though it's located and tucked away in an odd area of town (next to the local drug den of a hotel) the service from the wait staff has always been polite and accommodating. I have ordered off the menu and used their buffet and both are good choices. Make sure to catch the buffet during a lunch or dinner time or expect average temperature food of course. The buffet is smaller than the average but offers all the food I like, their soups are my favorite. I usually just get the sesame chicken off the menu and they give you enough of a portion to take another meal's worth home. We normally love it here, but it was terrible the past couple of times! Every time we have been here lately they have been terrible with paying attention to what needs to be refilled on the buffet and we have to ask for them to refill the food, the food just hasn't been as good either. The Crab Rangoons barely have anything in them. It's also the middle of winter and there are flies like fruit flies flying everywhere, that's literally disgusting we are trying to eat and have to keep pushing the flies away from our face, AND we literally were doing it while the waitress was asking if we needed anything, like did she not notice? Pretty decent food. Not cheap but not expensive. Some of the dishes are just swimming in sauce and the sweet and sour sauce is way too sweet. Menus are similar to the other Pi's/Genji's restaurants. Pi's is the first chinese food I ever tried! I was afraid to try it until I was 12 or 13 years old and my sister dragged me there (and INSISTED I try crabmeat and cheese. I was scared and completely nervous. needless to say, I am so HOOKED to this place!) The first thing I ever ordered was Beef and Vegetables and it was absolutely amazing for never having had chinese food before. Since then, I always go during the buffet times. As someone mentioned before, I'm sure it's not authentic, and it's true that a lot of it is deep fried and smothered in sauce, but that's what makes it SO good! I think what Pi's has that many other chinese restaurants don't is the freshness of their buffet. Everything is crispy that's supposed to be and nothing is hard or chewy. Naturally their prices have gone up in the last few years, and I will admit that it doesn't seem as good as it USED to be, but I still love the food. Although it's not my favorite restaurant in the world, it's a place I always return to when I'm back in Midland! It's atmosphere is professional, modern, and I RARELY have a problem with service (and that's been 8 years I've been going there.) The parking is a little bad, but I have NEVER been towed! There is not specified spots for Motor Inn and Pi's, but honestly, the Motor Inn sucks so nobody stays there and there is nearly ALWAYS a spot to park that is within reasonable distance from the doors. read more

The selection here is excellent, customization is always possible, and both in-house and carry out service are well done. A buffet option is offered for both dinner and lunch, but I would recommend ordering off the menu to get something right out of the wok. read more

There are two good things I can say about pi's. The atmosphere is very clean and the decor is nice. And the owner is a doll. He is extremely polite and accommodating. The food on the other hand was less than mediocre! The buffet was luke warm, they hardly put anything new out. And the service was horrible! We didn't even see our waitress! Throughout my many years growing up in the mid-Michigan area, I've been to Pi's so many times - I've probably paid someone's annual salary. Or, well, it wasn't my personal money - but we've been there enough to do it is what I'm driving at. My dad and I used to drive there once a week (I forget which day) just to chow down on their legendary buffet. Heck, I even remember my first time eating at Pi's. It was after a field trip when we all went to Saginaw for something. On the way back we stopped at Pi's. Most of the other kids wanted to stop at McDonald's or something boring, but the teachers weren't having it. Frankly, I wasn't either. I wanted to try something new. I'm glad we did eat there. What makes this place stand out above any other Chinese place with a buffet? Quite honestly... nothing. The food here is always good, delicious and cheap - but what Chinese buffet that's worth its weight in salt isn't? I'm not one to knock someone's hustle, but how hard can it be to make delicious food when half the items are stuff that's deep-fried and slathered with a healthy dose of monosodium glutamate? The parking situation is a bit hairy here as well. It's right next to a hotel, so unless you're parked right next to the restaurant you aren't really sure whether you're in the hotel's parking and face getting towed or whether you're in a safety zone. I wouldn't worry about it too much though, it is only Midland after all. Pricing, as others have mentioned, is pretty cheap. Like most Chinese places. You can't go wrong ordering something off this menu because you're not really making a large investment either way. Bring some of those Midland gals here for dinner and they might just think you're awesome - even though they might prefer Genji, they won't turn their pretty little noses up at Pi's. Besides, they're both just as authentic Asian cuisine as you'll find in Midland. Pi's is a good go-to spot and great to have in your knowledge database. Although it really is nothing special. Given the chance to dine here, I certainly wouldn't turn it down but I wouldn't jump out of my seat with excitement either unless I had one of those weird cravings like a pregnant woman.
