New Ownership as of August 2025. Same quality friendly quick service for pick-up order. Extensive menu to browse. Portions are generous, reheat well too. Called in order for Mongolian Beef, Shrimp and pea pods entrees, egg roll, and sizzling rice soup. The entrees were good as expected. The sizzling rice soup was disappointing, no crispy rice at all, just a big glop of soggy rice in broth with hardly any shrimp or veggies. This place has really gone downhill since the new owners have taken over. We have been there 3 times since they reopened and the first time was similar to the previous owners quality so we thought the 2nd time we went and the quality had declined significantly we thought it was just a bad day. But this last time was just March 14, 2026 at 6:15 pm and honestly it was so horrible that we will never be back again. The buffet was old and cold and they would only put out small portions and blend it in with food that was discolored it had been out so long. Ones that were empty we had to request some after waiting 10 minutes for them to fill them back with some more. The crab ragoons were so old they were soggy and cold so when I asked for something fresh, they brought 6 out on a plate that were clearly under a warming lamp in the kitchen. They were just barely warm and although they were better than what was on the buffet, we did pay money with the expectation of getting a fresh variety of food that was hot, not old & cold. China Palace is under new ownership. Where the snow peas were once crisp, the broccoli a vivid green, the Szechuan well spiced, there is no something more akin to glop. The snow peas were pale and soggy, the broccoli reminiscent of the overboiled frozen of the 1970s, and the Szechuan was indistinguishable from the blander dishes. The beef was gray. It seemed as if it had all been boiled instead of fried. Everything was soft, wet, and muted in color. We ended up hungry, and sad that we no longer have a reliable Chinese destination Midland. read more

I'm reviewing the new owners buffet since reopening the dine in China Palace. Remembering the previous owners buffet which was fantastic, the new one lacks some of the better items. The egg rolls are not the same. Tiny little versions of egg rolls but flavorless. It lacks the chicken wings and shrimp which made the original buffet better also. I think I'd have given this buffet a 5 star review of those few items reappeared on the buffet. Taste was very good on all things I had except the little egg rolls. read more

Delicious Chinese food with decent portions. I usually order delivery service which is always faster than the quoted time. I do recommend just calling to place your order versus using the online system. Also, the hours are a little inconsistent as well as availability of their delivery option but if you are looking for great Chinese food, it's the best in Midland! read more

Stopped in for lunch before a wedding this past weekend. Although I had planned to order off the menu, when I saw the buffet food being brought out (we were there when they opened), I changed my mind. The food was great! I especially liked the Yummi Shrimp and the Mongolian Beef. Not as huge a variety as some other buffets I've visited, but makes up for it in quality. The decor was a bit hokey but "fun". They had a full bar, but being early in the day I didn't take advantage. I would definitely go back here the next time I'm in the Midland area. read more

My favorite Chinese restaurant in Midland, especially for lunch. The food is delicious, and the portions are generous. The lunch special includes an entree that can easily be two meals, fried rice (also easily spread over two meals), choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup, and either an egg roll or two crab rangoons. Standout dishes are Szechuan chicken and princess chicken. The menu prices are good enough and the portions are generous enough to make the buffet unnecessary. This place has gone downhill not that it was ever anything to rave about. For the price it used to be a decent choice as their isnt many option in midland for Chinese food at all. They are now charging higher than what dinner used to cost pre pandemic. They dont deliver and they dont do dine in but somehow im expected to pay almost a 30 percent mark up since covid. Im not buying it for the quality. The food has zero seasonings, They water down their sauces to the point that my "sweet and sour chicken" tasted like water covered chicken breast. Didn't tell me a price on the phone and showed up to a 82 dollar bill for 4 adult meals. 3 minute drive there was told 20 minutes got there everything was cold. Ive tried multiple things from here and you can tell they use the same sauces for entrees that dont even have the same sauce anywhere else. Absolutely excellent place to eat. Went in for dinner on a Monday night, just before 6PM, and the place was mostly empty. This made for an excellent intimate quiet setting for my lady and I to enjoy our meal. The wait service was very nice and attentive, drinks always full and quick with our several requests. I ordered the Singapore Noodle (spicy, $9.99) and my lady ordered the Chicken Fried Rice (not spicy, $8), and both were very filling and among the best orders of Chinese we've ever had. Yum Yum sauce is made to order and although different than we'd had before, was excellent. We will definitely be back, at least to try the buffet. read more

There is no other option for us when we get Chinese food. China Palace is the ONLY place where I can consistently get great service and can count on the food being so very delicious, hot in temperature and cooked to my specs. I love spicy food, so they are able to put some"heat" on any entree I order. There is another Chinese restaurant across the street....no comparison. They are very consistent with their foods tasting the same.....such as I love shrimp and peapods. And it always tastes how I remember it tasting the last time. A different cook does not mean different tasting food. I have heard that in other restaurants, "there is a diff chef or cook". I like knowing and counting on my food to taste delish! read more

We live in Livonia, MI and have a cottage in Gladwin. We went to Midland to go to the movies and out to eat. Found the China Palace on yelp and since it got good reviews, we thought we'd check it out. The eggrolls were very good, fresh tasting and crispy vegetables. We also ordered the General Chicken (minus all the vegetables except for broccoli) and it was absolutely delicious. We also ordered the Yummy Shrimp and that also was amazing. The portion sizes were huge. The staff was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. It's a hard place to find because the front does not face the main street, but it was worth finding it with the GPS. I definitely would go back again to eat there. read more

Love this place. In town for business but needed lunch. Buffet looked really good. They had just brought out the dishes. What a spread. Everything was so good and fresh to boot. Veggies in dishes were crunchy an colorfull, as they should be. A big tray of fresh chilled shrimp and several shrimp stir fry type dishes were offered. The chicken and beef dishes were equally flavorful and tender. We have been eating here for many years and although we live in Rochester, MI we love to come here frequently when we go thru Midland on our way to Clare to visit family. Not terrible, but definitely subpar. The Orange and General Tso's chicken are both listed as "spicy" but don't taste like it at all. Honestly, they both tasted like they had the same sauce. The crab rangoon had no crab, just cream cheese. The lo mein tasted like lifeless noodles. And my husband said the egg drop soup tasted like melted butter in water. We ordered online and picked up our food and was happy to see many ppl waiting for food so that should mean it was fresh. To my disappointment the food tasted like it had been made and sitting around all day under heat lamps. Although the name says China Palace, there are at least a few Korean employees and several Korean menu items. The portion is huge, as these dishes are meant to be shared family style. Unfortunately Michael S. (stare) doesn't do that so we get to take almost another meal's worth of leftovers home. Sizzling Rice Soup (2.79 USD) is a great starter and tastes like what I'm used to. It is served crazy hot(!) so wait before you tuck in, or else you'll burn the entire inside of your mouth and the skin will peel off the roof of your mouth in one big piece. Yum! Korean Black Noodles (10.99 USD) is jajangmyeon and tastes pretty good. A ton of onions and no sea cucumber, the only reason that it's worth the price is because you get a lot of it. Korean Noodle Soup (10.99 USD) is their take on jjamppong, and it was unfortunately a little under-seasoned. One day I was craving vegetables so I ordered Hunan Vegetables (which I can't find on their online menu but I'm guessing was around 8 bucks). I think I found the seasoning for the noodle soup, and it ended up in the vegetable dish! It was so salty. Only eat this one with plain rice. The rest of the menu seems to be mostly Americanized Chinese food with a few authentic-looking names thrown in. Korean options on the menu satisfied my craving but was still missing a certain something here and there. Prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get and the service is on point so I'd be willing to come back and try some other dishes. read more

Given that I'm Chinese, I do tend to judge Chinese restaurants more critically than most. I saw a menu item I really wanted to try (Singapore Noodles), but it's hard to turn down a buffet when they literally just set out the food 3 minutes beforehand. The restaurant is not very well lit, making the space look a lot smaller and drab than it actually is. It's great for groups, there are many nooks and corners that are specifically made for larger groups (5 to 6). The variety, the quality, and the taste of the food at the buffet was actually better than what I had expected. I wonder how do the menu items compare to the buffet items. But to give this place its due credit, for being where it is, a small town 3 hours north of metro Detroit, it's pretty good. If I were to visit Midland, I'd gladly go back. read more

I didn't realize that when I moved out of Midland, I would never again have good Mongolian Beef. This is the only dish I ever get at this restaurant because it is so good and it never tastes as good anywhere else! So first, if you've have the mongolian beef on the buffet...it's not the same. You have to get it as your entree. I don't know why, that's just how it works. The lunch portion is huge and comes with fried rice rice and you can get hot and sour soup which I like because they don't put pork in it BUT they do put green peas in it. The dinner portion is even bigger but doesn't come with the soup. And I think it comes with white rice. I travel all the time and have tried the Mongolian Beef in a number of different Chinese restaurants in all different parts of the U.S. and I still can't find any that compares to the Mongolian Beef at China Palace. It's really sad how much I miss it. read more
