If anyone leaves Chatham without trying the Yellowfin Tuna dish at Pisces, you are committing a crime! I am always excited to be sitting at one of their tables where I can experience the Cape Cod art and cozy atmosphere. From what I observed, all the servers are very respectful and helpful even with each other (despite what other reviews may say). I have had my fair share of dining at this restaurant and never have I ever been anything but AMAZED. Worth every nickel and dime, especially when your dinner is paired with the right wine! Went here for dinner and drinks Saturday night, all over great experience! To start we spilt the margarita pizza with fresh burratta on top- amazing! For dinner I had the Caesar salad and calamari and my friend had the cod dish, all of the food was creative and delicious! For dessert the tres leche cake is a must, I've never had a dessert like this before, it just melts in your mouth and is so tasty. We had a wonderful dinner experience here this Friday night! The atmosphere is quaint. The food and service were excellent! We started with the tuna appetizer with truffle oil. It was amazing! I had the scallop and salmon entree with a pumpkin /butternut squash ravioli. It was a wonderful combination. The pastas are all homemade. My husband had the shrimp and pasta entree which was also delicious. For our dessert we had the salted Carmel profiteroles and the homemade key lime pie. Our entire experience was top notch! Used to love Pisces but they have lost their fastball. Tonight we had a server who was on auto pilot and kept running away before we could fully express our desires. Our food came very slowly and even though we wanted to relax and talk, the length of time to serve was awkward Salads were good as was chicken. Lobster bolegnes sauce was excellent but there was not enough pasta (for a $38 special they could afford 50 cents more pasta). Here is the killer: one in our party was not drinking and asked for soda water with a splash of cranberry and had it refilled a few times. He actually "outdrank" us and was charged $20 total for the refilled soda. We asked that the charge be reduced and the waitress went to the owner who did (thank you very much) then they blew it by saying "just so you know $5 per soda is our standard and valid charge and you will be charged this if you come back". Well, I have had about 10 nice meals there over the years but I can solve that problem by not coming back to a restaurant that is definetly resting on its prior success. read more

Very disappointed with our experience tonight. We've been coming to Pisces for a number of years and have always had a stellar meal with great service. While I get places have off nights tonight was beyond that. We had come in and ordered a negroni and mango mojito. Tables seated after us (with our server) started getting their drinks, server tells us upon dropping off the amazing bread, drinks would be coming soon. About fifteen mins later (20 or so in total) I asked our server if I could get a glass of Prosecco instead thinking that would be quicker. The response was oh your drinks are at the bar I just haven't brought them over, and she hadn't been reachable this whole time either to remind her. The same drinks I had seen sitting there for the fifteen mins. Ok fine, get the drinks my husband said his negroni was great, unfortunately mine was so bitter it wasn't drinkable. Whatever the waitress never came back till our dinners came out and at this point I was past wanting a drink and figured we'd just take it off the bill. We ordered desert the strawberry shortcake and almond joy sundae. Shortcake was great the sundae was awful and inedible. The almonds were stale, myself, husband and kids all thought it was bad. Sent it back, check comes and the server tells me that both she and the chef tasted the sundae and there wasn't anything wrong with it and also kept it on the bill. Needless to say I stated it's ridiculous for a customer to send a ten dollar dessert back to the kitchen (not a $40 plate just a $10 dessert) and not only were we told that we were wrong but we also will still be charged. It's too bad bc the appetizer and the dinner were still amazing as always but when you nickel and dime a customer that just dropped $200 on a meal for a ten dollar dessert, you may want to rethink your customer service approach. read more

Having spent lots of time in Chatham, I feel comfortable saying that this is one of the best meals you can get in the area. The dishes are thoughtful and well balanced, the flavors are bright and layered. Reservations are a must and bring a DD because the bar makes a mean martini. It's definitely a spot I will go once or twice a visit to the cape. Service is friendly and accommodating, they also have gluten free options. The octopus and burrata appetizer was really incredible. My family has been a part of the Chatham community for many many years. We couldn't believe that after all of that time we had not been to Pisces (a restaurant that we had heard nothing but good things about). This past Saturday night we decided to try it - my parents, grandmother, sister, and a friend from out of town. We were pleasantly surprised by the cute, capey decor and we were seated right at our reservation time of 6pm. Everything was well and good until we received service from the waitress. She was immediately flustered, rushed, and not very attentive. We ordered our drinks, which included a bottle of white wine... The waitress brought over the bottle, poured a 'taste' for my mother, and before even hearing her reaction, was pouring wine into the rest of our glasses. As she walked away we all said cheers and took a sip - the wine was not cold and had a tangy/fizzy taste to it. We called the waitress back, stating we did not like the wine for the reasons above. She reacted with 'OK' and left the table. Several minutes later, the bartender comes and just grabs the bottle off the table. The waitress soon follows stating that there is no problem with the wine and proceeded to state that it is not their problem that 'we were unfamiliar with the wine selection'. Furthermore, we would be charged for all of the glasses poured (the glasses weren't even filled to a full serving). (Background on my family: we are restaurant lovers - we work in Boston and are familiar with wine, good service, and good food). This waitress' reaction was rude and belittling. She made the customer feel bad for not knowing EVERY single white wine there is from Italy (and mind you we know a fair amount - my sister lived in Rome and I have lived and drank in the North End neighborhood in Boston for 5 years). We tried to resurrect the night, ordering big meals and dessert (I will say food was good...not amazing), but the customer service was just poor. When a family is there spending their time and money (and this place is not inexpensive), they should be respected and valued as a paying customer. This restaurant is all about the money and not one bit about the customer service which is just wrong. My family and I are extremely disappointed. We would be the first to support a local business in town, but it is safe to say none of us will be returning. read more

I have been a regular at Pisces since it opened. Each year I have found the food to be expertly and freshly prepared. The service is always friendly and timely...and the servers are well schooled in the items on the menu. The wine list s expensive for a restaurant of this size, and their featured wines offer choice alternatives to the regular offerings. The bartenders pour a good, not stingy drink! If you like a heavy dose of arrogance with you meal, Pisces is the place for you. On a recent Wednesday evening, we took the first reservation available for 8:30 - party of 6. I was called in the afternoon prior to the reservation to ask if I would mind moving back to 8:45 - no problem. Upon arrival I was told that the party with "your table" was on dessert. I reminded the hostess that they had called and I accommodated their request to move the reservation and that it was unacceptable to now wait until another party was done. This conversation took place adjacent to an empty table with six chairs. I asked to be seated there and was told that another party of four had been waiting since 8:00 p.m. to be seated and that table was for them. At this point, I concluded that dining room management is not a strength of this restaurant. Nevertheless, the hostess relented and set the table for six and we were seated, although the difficult interaction deflated our mood. Upon ordering we were told there was one flounder special left. My daughter was excited to have flounder and ordered one. The waitress left to inform the kitchen staff, and returned to tell us our daughter had the final flounder. Twenty minutes after our appetizer plates were cleared, the waitress huddled with my daughter so she could chose another entree since the flounder had been given to another diner. I told the waitress that this was unacceptable, and that the meal should be comped. She looked at me like I had two heads and included the full price in the check. The noise level in this place is almost unbearable. It is too bad that Pisces does not realize it is in the hospitality business. The food is excellent, but when we dine out, we expect a complete experience beginning with welcoming hospitality not arrogance and a hard time. Had a 7:30 reservation and didn't get seated until 8:15. Sat at bar while waiting and bartender ignored us for literally 20 minutes. Keep in mind there are only 6 seats at the bar. Hostess/manager didn't even acknowledge or apologize for the wait. Once finally seated, service and food was outstanding. This restaurant was recommended to us so we were very excited to go. A BIG disappointment!! Very over priced! First of all I ordered a sangria that they say comes from a special recipe. It was terrible the only fruit was an orange slice. Our table ordered the local clams linguine which was very rubbery, the striped bass which didn't have a nice sauce or any herbs very plain and the rib eye which was fatty. All of the meals we ordered I could of made at home and they would of tasted better. They have no business charging the outrages prices. Who ever is doing the cooking doesn't like to cook. I don't mind paying for good food but it will not be found here. Restaurant is also very loud and the menu is written in the tiniest writing possible. They obviously do not want anyone over 50 to go. If you choose to try it anyway bring a magnifying glass and some ear plugs. read more

During our recent mini-vacation to Chatham, we made our first trip to Pisces. This restaurant was highly recommended by family members so we were excited about trying it. Since we were bringing our 4 year old and we know this place is not kid-friendly, we decided to make early reservations to avoid the risk of "cranky when tired" syndrome. We were seated right away, even though we were about 10 minutes early. Our waitress came over quickly, introduced the specials and took our drink orders. With no kids' menu, we ordered the chicken for our daughter. My husband and I started off with the Lobster Butternut chowder. I had the classic clams with linguine, and my husband ordered the risotto (bacon and something else) of the day, which came with a fillet of swordfish. Our chowders were delicious. Our entrees were good. I found my clams to be nice but slightly overcooked and while the dish was loaded with chopped clams, it was nothing special. My husband had similar feedback on his entree. Good but nothing memorable. Actually, I think our daughter's grilled statler chicken with mushroom madeira sauce and black truffle filled pasta was the best entree. My daughter loved it. She even ate the truffle filled pasta -- she wanted more! Dessert was excellent though -- we had the strawberry shortcake, which was a homemade sweet biscuit with strawberries, sauce, and fresh cream. All in all, a very good meal. We did not find it to be as sensational as others have but we would come back to try other items when we visit Chatham. While we had no issues with having our child there, this place is not "kid friendly". Interestingly, about 1 in every 3 parties had young children so I think the staff knows it is the way of the world down in that neck of the woods. read more

It's a pretty solid restaurant. Pisces is located a little outside of downtown Chatham (in the same building that Sullivan's Restaurant use to be). I typically go here 4ish times a season and am always pleased with the food and service I receive. At my most recently I started with the Spring Salad (mixed greens, walnuts, gorgonzola, pears, and a balsamic? dressing). It was light, fun and a nice summer-y opening to my meal. I followed up with the Fisherman's Stew which was a symphony of shell fish (shrimp, cod?, littlenecks, and muscles) in a light but slightly spicy red sauce. Not sure why I chose this as I generally stay away from clams...but I was pleasantly surprised by how sweet and tender they were. Truth be told, however, I was definitely eying the yellowfin tuna which stared at me from across the table. Desert was very fun, I had the strawberry shortcake which was beautifully presented. The biscuits were slightly sweet and soft to the point where they held together but melted in your mouth. !Que Delicioso! This is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. I have not had a bad meal there over the past four years. I enjoy visiting the place, especially after a day at the beach. Due in part to its size, the place can be a bit bustling at times. But the staff is courteous and attentive. I would recommend trying the risotto of the day, arugula and beet salad, lobster ravioli, codfish,and yellowfin tuna. There is a good selection of wines to compliment your meal. My first review ever is not a good one. I have been coming to Chatham for over twenty years. I have been to most every restaurant in the area multiple times. Because of my last experience I find it extremely difficult to go back to Pisces. To keep a long story short, the food took over 1.5 hours to come out. This long wait time was attributed to the extra time it took to cook a well done ribeye. The 40 dollar ribeye was rare. I asked my sister if there was anything she would like to do about the ribeye but unfortunately the food took so long to come out that she had to leave to pick up a prescription. The waitstaff must have known there was an issue because we were ignored until I got up and found our waitress. When the rare steak was pointed out to waitstaff their sincerest apologies were expressed however little was done to rectify the situation. The waitstaff took the ribeye into the kitchen but she relayed that the chefs (who own Pisces) said there was nothing they could do since my sister had already left. After factoring in the 20 minute wait for the valet, this was a miserable experience. I understand restaurants have good nights and bad, but if you only have a few special nights a year to cherish with family and friends, it might not be worth the risk to roll the dice here. read more

Fantastic food, great service, and a pleasant atmosphere. The place is cozy with a blue-and-white seashore decor. We ate at five, so the restaurant was pretty calm. Our server was friendly and charming - happy to recommend favorite dishes and to linger and chat. For appetizers, we had the kale salad (good but a bit dry; could use some extra flavor), the arugula and beat salad (great), and the summer salad with peaches, walnut and cheese (delicious). The "sushi-grade" tuna was rare and indeed sushi-like, with an interesting sweet and spicy sauce that crept up on my taste buds after a few bites. It was served over scallion rice - a nice, mild compliment to the main dish. The ginger garnish was a great pallet cleanser. It was delicious for the first half of the meal, but after a while, the raw quality of the tuna became a bit overwhelming. The cod with cornmeal crust was very moist and flavorful. The snap peas that accompanied were a little tough, though. The risotto with salmon was slightly watery but the taste was excellent. A good sized piece of salmon on top. What really blew us away was the dessert. Don't come to Pisces without sampling the delicious baked desserts!!!! Order the tres leche. I'll say it again: order the tres leche. It was incredibly decadent, soaked in a rich, sweet suspension that comes from the "three milks" and drizzled with caramel. I was in heaven from the first bite, and then I got to the center. When you break open the center of the cake, delicious hot caramel pours out. It was possibly the best dessert I've ever had. Another winner: the Key Lime Pie. It's made with lime juice imported from the Keys (seriously!) and drizzled with mango sauce. Somehow it manages to be light and fluffy but intensely sweet and tart. The flourless chocolate cake was good, but not great. Basically a really rich chunk of chocolate. You guys won't need to worry about it, though, because it was a limited-time special. Pisces doesn't get five stars because the main courses were good but not out-of this world, and because of a small unpleasant experience with the management: We had reservations for five o'clock, and the doors were literally closed to customer for a few minutes after five, so we just sat outside waiting on a bench until they let us in. Not a problem for me, but definitely a problem for a more impatient member of my party. Overall, come to Pisces, and, for your own sake, order the Tres Leche (and the Key Lime Pie)! read more

We have had just about every dish on the menu and one is as delicious as the next. The food always is served piping hot and fresh. One of our favorites is the risotto of the day topped with a fresh catch: flounder, salmon, swordfish. If you like dessert there is a great selection. Don't miss the Almond Joy Sundae! Excellent choice for fish or shellfish. Their portions are large but you can also order smaller portions on many of their offerings. I had a delicious tomato, basil, and mozzarella salad, corn and lobster chowder and a shrimp, penne, asparagus, and Parmesan entrée. The entrée was huge and could have easily served two people. For dessert, a tres leche cake. All excellent and well prepared. The sauces are light and flavorful. The service was efficient but a little slow. Friendly atmosphere and a tasteful dining area. I saw a number of tables with small kids here which is nuts unless your 7 year old is a gourmand! This place isn't cheap and the service is leisurely so junior better be patient. My kids are older now but this would have been a painful place to bring my rug rats. I think this is one of the best restaurants in Chatham. IGNORE THIS, AND GO ANYWAY. My wife and I visited a friend on the Cape who lives near Pisces. On the basis of her good experiences there, she reserved a table for the three of us. This review is more about the chef/owner's defensive and inadequate response to my complaints about our dinner than our dining experience. The presentation and quality of the food we were eventually served was fine, but I'll never return. There were two problems. First, we were seated at the table by the noisy double-action hinged cafe doors that were in near-perpetual motion with the traffic of the servers, who routinely paused to converse by our table. The cafe doors allowed an unobstructed view of the kitchen's wire storage shelves and gray plastic storage bins. The second issue was the very long wait to be served our meals, marked by the time to empty our bottle of wine, watch multiple parties seated with or after us being served, and the increasing lulls in our conversation. The wait amplified the irritation of the distracting noise. During the wait, I left the table and went to the front desk to complain to the two hostesses. I calmly and evenly informed them of the displeasure of waiting too long to be served accompanied by the aggravation of the cafe doors and server traffic. After enduring a wait long enough to overcome anticipation and provoke doubts, our meals were presented with a flourish by several servers, followed by several interruptions of our meal asking how it was and if we needed anything else. What a farcical troupe! This sudden fawning attention was an awkwardly obvious effort to placate badly served guests. Had my complaint to the hostesses worked? No. It died at the front desk. The next day, I called Pisces with the intent of speaking to a manager about my disappointment. The chef/owner, Sue, answered. She told me that she first learned of our wait from another zone's server. Sue said she was not told of my complaint to the hostesses. Sue said our server failed to put in our order, thus our wait. Sue was critical of the server, saying it was the server's responsibility to put in our order on time and to offer to "comp"us for any inadequacies on their part. Not only did our server fail to put in our order, she had blithely invited us to order from the dessert menu. Sue offered me a coupon (amount unspecified) that was of no value to me, since I live hundreds of miles away. She then offered to give the coupon to our friend, an offer that I also declined because I did not want to embarrass our friend with evidence of my complaint. I suggested to Sue that she replace our table for four with a table for two and a partition or a screen to insulate its guests from the cafe doors and server traffic. She said she would take it under consideration. Our conversation was interrupted multiple times by dropped calls, so I ultimately concluded my end of the conversation with an email that was informed by what she told me in our several calls. In the email, I requested a $75 refund to acknowledge the shared pain of the experience. I did not mention that I write reviews, since I did not want the email to seem coercive. After a week, there was no reply from Sue, so I called her again to more dropped calls. She said my dissatisfaction was an overreaction, that no one else complained, that I had not complained directly to the server (thus "blaming the victim" and forgetting that I had notified the two hostesses), and that my request for $75 was ridiculous. She left me wondering if she yells at her staff. She repeated that she had offered coupons to me and my friend and made no effort to negotiate my counter-offer. I then mentioned that my reviews have thousands of readers. She angrily said she would not be threatened, entirely missing the point that a poor review is both a salve to its writer and a service to its readers. In our first phone call(s), Sue considered firing our server. Sue admitted she was aware of our situation, and she failed to resolve it: firing her server and blaming me won't solve this. Pisces has largely favorable reviews. Pick your server and your table wisely, and you will enjoy yourself. Just remember, "There are plenty of fish in the sea." read more

Three to four stars for the food. Tuna app was overly salted. Seafood stew was ok as the jalepeno overwhelmed the dish. Worst of all for an intimate restaurant, the service was overly disappointing. This place simply cannot handle its guests, has a horrible bar that takes longer than the food, and to too it off, charges an automatic 20% tip over and above the taxed amount of the bill. Food was excellent, service was attentive and friendly. I waver back and forth b/w 3 and 4 stars rating for these reasons: restaurant was very noisy and dining room was too crowded. Servers had to turn to their sides to move b/w tables. I was at a table for two; we had a party of 8 next to us, and another party of 10 behind us. While this is totally acceptable, the table arrangements were cramped with little space b/w parties. At times my husband and I struggled to hear one another speak. In addition, we were charged a "sharing fee" for splitting a pasta dish. This is RIDICULOUS!! We each ordered an appetizer, we each ordered an entree (plus three cocktails and dessert) and we ordered a pasta course to share - charging us to share this additional course is crazy. Typically a sharing fee is charged if two people split an entree - that I understand. This was not the case in our situation. Left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Some dishes (Mediterranean seafood stew) are reliably great, and that is what I had tonight: an array of seafood in a deliciously spicy broth. My wife had the cod, which also tends to be consistently special: succulent, perfectly cooked, delicately seasoned. We had a Caesar salad and the calamari appetizer. Salad was superb. Calamari was only good tonight, as it lacked some of the complex spiciness that it usually offers (it is sautéed in white wine, garlic, calamata olives, and red pepper flakes). Not sufficiently off to spoil the meal, but noticeably shy of the usual blend of spice and amazingly tender rings of calamari that we usually get.
