Pisticci is my favorite Italian restaurant in the city at the moment. It's a traditionally decorated Italian style restaurant tucked away on the corner of an uphill street in Morningside. I came here for brunch out of curiosity because my family has eaten here a few times before but only for dinner. The staff are always so sweet and attentive. Both my cousin and I decided to get the steak and eggs with a side of their potatoes. I asked for my steak medium and my cousin got hers medium well. The steak was cooked perfectly. The potatoes were perfectly seasoned as well. It was so yummy! Since it was a little closer to dinner, we decided that we needed to try the tiramisu. I'm not too much a fan of coffee flavored desserts but this recipe changed my entire perspective. This was honestly was the best part of the meal. Our server Halle made our day. She was so nice and definitely deserves all the praise along with the bartender, but unfortunately I didn't get his name. They allowed us to stick around a little longer and we ended up having an amazing conversation with the manager. Honestly one of the best and cohesive restaurant experiences I've had in a VERY long time. Definitely would recommend. read more

I'm sure this is a local favorite but for someone new to the area, this was an absolute hidden gem! I think the Belle's Library feel of the place makes it very magical and would make a great date night or event venue. It is very small and does get kind of cramped but what Italian restaurant isn't? I had the tomatoes and burrata, and paired that with their garlic bread. So fresh and creamy. The ingredients are great quality. I got the mushroom pasta that had the most tender mushrooms and perfectly cooked pasta. I recommend getting it with the truffle oil, otherwise you'll need a little salt added. I would definitely come here again to try another one of their pasta dishes! read more

Called ahead for a table outdoors, and it was no problem on a weeknight. Setup is great and very distanced. Loved the ingenious way they built the tables' platforms into the hill! My boyfriend and I shared: + stracciatella caprese - my favorite thing we ate, total fire + Orecchiette broccoli rabe with spicy Italian sausage + Spaghetti with prosciutto and spinach - both pastas were perfectly cooked + homemade coconut cake - also incredible, definitely get this + Tartufo, affogato style - my boyfriend is a tartufo expert and he loved this Our waiter (think his name was Jake) was amazing. This restaurant is bigger than what it seems on the outside, it has three different bars, and three rooms to dine in. Each room has a different decor and they use a local artist for most of their art. Nice and friendly spot in neighborhood that attracts a variety of guests. The atmosphere is chill and welcoming. The service is super fast and I highly recommend. More than likely this place will be a staple for me. One of the key benefit of this place is how affordable it is. Every budget can dine here. The food is fresh and made in house. They give generous portion of pasta, and the coconut cake was not too sweet, but was plated with a weird sauce. I can not recommend this place enough. read more

The good reviews are spot on. We had a wonderful lunch at Pisticci. It's lovely inside and out. It was a beautiful day for the patio so we choose to sit street side under an umbrella. Service was perfect from start to finish. Our lunch was sensational! I had the Insalata Pisticci (minus the potatoes) and added grilled salmon instead. The spinach was fresh, the dressing divine and the salmon was flaky yet firm. My husband had the Seafood Pasta special. It was loaded with shrimp, mussels, clams and a white fish over linguine. There was more fish than pasta which thrilled my husband. If you're wondering if he enjoyed the sauce, I can tell you he alone ate the entire basket of the crusty Italian bread, dragging every piece through his leftover sauce and finally spooning the rest on his last piece of bread. I came to Pisticci for dinner with a group of friends. Upon arriving, the restaurant was packed. Fortunately, my group was already seated. Despite the restaurant being full, the service was fairly decent. The server seemed very knowledgeable about the menu and gave good recommendations. Upon taking our orders, we waited a very reasonable amount of time - given the restaurant volume - for our food to arrive (less than 15 minutes). I had the Maltagliati with Ricotta, Spinach, and Lamb. Overall, it was pretty good. The lamb paired well with the ricotta and spinach, whereas the addition of pasta made the dish hearty. All the flavors of the dish were then tied together with the sauce. My only minor complaint is that the entire dish tasted a bit bland. But other than that, the food was great. read more

11/10 date night experience at Pisticci tonight. Service was beyond wonderful and the food was incredible. -We started with the roasted garlic bread and requested a side of marinara sauce. The bread is soft and still crunchy on the edges it's so so good -got the house red wine and then ordered the rigatoni vodka with chicken and the Tuscan bean ravioli both of which were so flavorful and fresh - halfway through the meal I knocked my glass of wine directly into my plate of pasta and was immediately brought napkins and the table was cleaned for us and I was brought a new glass of wine. I was even offered a new entree which was so kind. -we finished with the coconut cake which is sort of like a cheesecake/coconut tres leches??? Phenomenal. My dinner was solid. I was there for a dinner event for about 30-40 people. I had salmon and a side salad. It was surprisingly good. The reason I said "surprisingly" is because it was a large party and all the food came all around the same time. The salmon was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. The spinach was likewise perfectly cooked and seasoned. The salad was very fresh and perfectly dressed. I was really impressed, especially for a dinner party of that size. Get this if you've ever wondered what having potatoes in your salad tasted like. Burrata Caprese - 5/5 - This is how burrata is supposed to taste like! Melted in my mouth and the pesto sauce was pretty good too. Black Angus Skirt Steak - 3/5 - This was okay, a little lacking in flavor. Texture was alright. Seafood Pasta of the Day - ?/5 - I couldn't eat this as I'm allergic to seafood, but it was the one my friends liked the least. They said they were expecting it to be more of a light pasta (they explained that it had a white wine sauce.) Fettuccini ai Funghi - 5/5 - Really good! Super light- was expecting it to be more creamy and flavorful because you can smell the truffle oil (if you add it) immediately when it comes to your table, but I liked it regardless. Cheese Ravioli (this was a special) - 5/5 - Perfectly cooked ravioli and a yummy ricotta? cheese inside. It wasn't too heavy either! Homemade Tiramisu - 6/5 - This was so good! I don't normally like tiramisu but this one was creamy and had such a balanced profile. Would get again! Fresh Coconut Cake - 4.5/5 - This is apparently grandma's recipe so we got it. Nowadays it's hard to find a brunch place with good prices, good food, and outdoor seating that's both well-ventilated and warm. Pisticci fits the bill! Their winter outdoor seating is curb-side and some of the best I have seen, with heaters, dividers, and just enough siding to keep you warm but let the air flow. As a plus, it's also aesthetically pleasing! The food was delicious- my friend's lemon ricotta pancakes were perfect for a sweet-tooth, and the poached egg dish I ordered was savory and filling. They also offer a variety of cocktails, including warm ones which are exactly what you want on a cold, rainy day. Another upside- from 3-4 they close to switch from brunch to dinner, but they allowed the outdoor guests to stay. No need to abruptly end your conversation! This is a great spot to catch up with friends over brunch, and I will definitely be adding it to my rotation. read more

A very cozy NYC Italian restaurant. Need I say more? We started with a fresh burrata surrounded by split cherry tomatoes dancing in a wondrous olive oil. I was a little fearful that the pumpkin and corn soup special might be too sweet and creamy, but it was delightful, and I believe didn't have any cream at all. The ground corn provides nice texture to this delicious gazpacho-like (but piping hot) concoction. The fresh cavatelli with broccoli and portobello bathed in a delightful white wine and shallot reduction, was a really wonderful plate. The broccoli was perfectly cooked with the slightest, satisfying crunch, not over-cooked even by a second. The portobello slices were yum-umi, and the sauce provided a light touch that brought it all together. A glass of super Tuscan wine - actually two -paired nicely. Hands down the most amazing Italian restaurant, and we are lucky enough to have it right on our block! Our favorite appetizer is their roasted garlic bread, which is very crispy yet tender, with generous amount of garlic butter and goat cheese. We're also in love with the seafood special pasta, which has generous amount of seafood and fish, and comes with variations of tomato/wine sauce. We came here for my daughter's graduation from Columbia (I know my review is late), and arrived early for our reservation. We were seated right away and the service was top notch. I had the meatballs with polenta and the dish was scrumptious! The polenta had a nice thin crispy crust and soft and pillowy inside - so yummy! Prior to COVID and when I lived a block away, I was always happy to stroll by on a Tuesday evening or Sunday morning for brunch. The ambiance was always warm, romantic and sometimes filled with live music. A favorite date spot, my boyfriend and I have even celebrated anniversaries here because the food is just too good. Some menu favorites: Mussels, Spaghetti al Pomodoro WITH meatballs, Fettucini al Funghi, Lamb Ragu (!) and finally the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. These pancakes are probably the best I've ever had. So much so that I had to teach myself how to make them to get me during quarantine. Their dinner specials are always amazing! Sticking to fresh ingredients from local farms I don't think I've ever had one that's missed. I remember once they had the most delectable fresh-made rosemary pasta with duck bacon and mushrooms in a rich white sauce... I'm salivating just writing about it! During a COVID life, Pisticci is perhaps my favorite outdoor dining experience. Not only do they have tables in the little "alleyway," but also have gone far enough to build private-esque decks up along the hill. Thankfully it's a quiet street so even the tables closest to the street feel private... best of all, no street dining! In addition the staff are all in masks and you can pay on a tablet at your table. The food is still amazing, even if outside. We just had to order the mussels and the lamb ragu, as well as a stuffed shell type of dish. It was stuffed with fresh spinach and ricotta blanketed with a most delicious tomato sauce and served with the freshest and crispiest summer squash. I have been going to Pisticci for the past 26 years. They always have had good food and the people working there have been always very friendly and kind. Lately, they have hired a young woman who is always upset and mad. She obviously doesn't like to work there as a server and is unhappy. Anytime I'm in Morningside Heights and craving Italian, my go to is Pisticci. What makes this restaurant stand out is their use of their ingredients specifically the vegetables which they grow themselves. Most of their items are also vegetarian/vegan friendly and can be modified to be. I'm not vegetarian but I really like their plant-based meatballs. Their dishes are simplistic but delicious and it works so well. My favorite dishes are the Tuscan Bean Ravioli and Rigatoni Alla Vodka. I usually go for these two if I'm not feeling the Special Pasta of the day such as their Seafood Pasta. If you're feeling like having a cocktail, I highly recommend the "The" Grapefruit Martini which is huge and pretty strong. I was able to do a walk-in of one and be seated at the bar. Place was packed but service kept up easily. Pisticci in Harlem packed a nice punch when it came to the most outstanding service, cozy style and food for our Friday night dinner. It's casual with a funky and laid back vibe. You can check all the boxes on this one: Romantic? Check. Bug out night? Check Check. Rendezvous of any kind? CheckCheckCheck! From Pisticci's different angles and seating areas, looks like they broke walls to expand their layout. It works. It just adds that intimate feel. Here's the deal: NO reservations the day of/ call the day before. However, if you come in w/out one, you might be in luck with the few available tables- just hang out with your sip at either one of their bars until your table's ready....which we did. That second bar was cute and manned by poker-face Ms. Bartendress who cracked the whip real good on my 'Ginger Snap' cocktail. Stuff was so powerful, I couldn't drink it all. Important to note: I like how you can transfer your bar tab to your table. Menu isn't overwhelming- but has enough variety for Vegans, Vegetarians, Pescatarians and meat-eaters. Pisticci is much more than checkered tablecloths. Just don't order Fettuccine Alfredo or Chicken Parm- this isn't the joint for that. Actually the owner has kept an environmentally-friendly restaurant using his own compost. Greens in our Kale and Walnut Salad starter were so fresh they were popping out of the plate. The accompanying balsamic vinaigrette was the richest I've ever tasted and when I asked for some to take home, our boy Rick said yes! Thank you man! Bread upon request was airy and good. As was hubs' lamb ragout with spinach and 'flat' lasagna-looking pasta. ø_ø. Maybe a Rigatoni? Curly pasta? Sautéed Mushroom mix and kale in my 'Vegetarian's Delight' was very tasty. All my 2 polenta chunks missed were brown, crispy edges to seal the deal. Tasted good though. Our Vegan Chocolate cake though- was moist but tasted a bit oily. The crowd? GREAT FOOD, hilariously bad service. (But it gives you something to talk about and once you get your food all is forgiven). Half of the times I've been there we have had issues with service. 1. The hostesses(?) outside the restaurant typically ignore you for 5 minutes or so while they talk to each other. 2. When you do finally get seated, your orders get messed up a LOT. As someone with severe allergies, this is not comforting, but luckily I can eat almost everything on the menu. 3. Sometimes, a nice person will take your order and then mysteriously disappear... after about a half hour you'll realize your appetizers haven't come out yet, try to flag down another waiter which is difficult, and finally be told that your waitress's shift ended and she never put in the ticket... this has happened to me on TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS!!! 4. Your bill will be wrong. One of the times #3 happened and the manager(?) said he would comp us our soup and our glass of wine... funny thing is that we never ordered or received wine at all! We spent the rest of the evening among ourselves trying to figure out whether it was fair that they were prepared to comp us a glass of wine, but when we said we never ordered wine, they didn't comp us anything else in its place. All in all, I'll still be coming back because it is really great food and the service is so bad it makes good conversation. read more

Oh my goodness! This was just such a great experience from the moment we were greeted until the moment we walked out. Came all the way from LA to find an amazing Italian restaurant in uptown NY. So first course we ordered the Kale salad and it was good. I'm usually a Cesar salad girl so this was as close as it would get. At first I was skeptical because Kale isn't as crunchy and it didn't have cheese but the creamy dressing with honey and walnuts wasn't too bad, kinda plain but still good. Our second course were mussels with the side of amazing bread and that whole dish is a 10/10! That tomato broth taste as good as it looks! Last course we shared a Rigatoni alla vodka pasta and I was outstanding. The pasta was homemade and you could totally tell. I highly recommend it with some shrimp! Also the service was 10/10.
