    Marinated Chicken Thigh
    Francis C.

Absolutely worth the hype. We ordered the marinated chicken thigh bánh mì and the marinated pork bánh mì, and both were packed with flavor. The chicken was easily a 10/10 -- perfectly balanced between spicy and sweet, super juicy, with incredibly fresh ingredients and an amazing sauce that tied everything together. The pork was also excellent at an 8.5/10, flavorful and well-marinated with a great texture. The bread had that perfect crisp outside and soft inside combo that makes a bánh mì so satisfying. Definitely a spot worth coming back to.

We got the fried spring rolls (there's 4 decent sized rolls), summer rolls, and the pork shoulder banh mi. The banh mi isn't traditional like with pate but the meat is SO flavorful!!! I like the spicy sauce as well. The bread isn't super crispy like traditional banh mi but it is still fresh and delicious. I enjoyed the fried spring rolls and banh mi - would come back! We got pick up and it was ready right on time! There are no seats inside, this is a grab and go place. Price is very reasonable.

HUGE banh mis (lasted me two meals) and way better than the crap that's available downtown... lol. The bread is soft with just the right amount of crisp on the outside, and the lemongrass pork was packed with flavor. They were very generous with the quantity of meat.

This is probably one of the best Banh Mi's I've ever had. And I've had a lot!!! The sandwich was PACKED with meat that was juicy and flavorful. It was full of fresh veggies and herbs on perfectly toasted bread. I got their famous lemongrass pork sandwich and can't wait to try every single other one!!

This bahn mi was sooo tasty. I was at a bar close by and it was the perfect takeaway meal. It was fast, nice person taking the order, good service. It's a small place. There was just one person at the cash register taking orders, only takeout, no tables to sit and eat. It definitely worked for our needs.

Amazing Vietnamese spot (takeout only). Grabbed lunch with a friend on a weekday and there was no line. Lemongrass roast pork bahn mi was perfect, and the sticky rice and red curry chicken pouch was also excellent. Definitely recommended for delicious bahn mi in the area!

I wasn't expecting much for such a tiny shop I found while in the area. There's no place to sit but that wasn't a problem!! The park is 4 blocks down. The bread was so flaky and the breaded chicken was so perfectly fried. I honestly could not be more happy about how my sandwich turned out!! It's one of those happy accident discoveries that end up becoming a favorite. I'm going to come back with a friend!! And this was a 30 min commute from my neighborhood so that's saying something

Holy cow! This place has been on my list to try for a while and I finally made it this week. I'm so made I waited as long as I did to try it. I got the lemon grass pork banh mi sandwich and it was PERFECT! The meat was so tender and flavorful. All the sandwich toppings were so fresh. Huge portion for the price too! Will definitely be back!

I loved this sandwich! I've eaten a lot of banh mi sandwiches and this ranks really high on my list. New York isn't exactly known for good Vietnamese food, so finding one is always a pleasant surprise. For the location and amount of food, it's a decent price. I ordered the lemongrass pork banh mi with all the toppings and it just hit every note. It's made a bit differently from a traditional banh mi (no butter and pate), but the spicy mayo worked well! The meat was flavorful and tender, the pickled veggies added a good brightness, and the bread was soft (in a good way). There are no complaints from me and Saiguette is worth the trip this far uptown!

I had the lemongrass pork banh mi and it was the best banh mi I've had in my life. I had it standing on the sidewalk outside, highly recommend. I cannot go back to eat here again.

Quick service and fair price for the quality, freshness and flavor you get. The grilled lemongrass pork was so flavorful and juicy. This was one of the best banh mi I've ever had. So delicious!!!

    Sharon S.

Still the best bahn mi in NYC! Had the roast pork bahn mi again which was huge! Definitely generous portion of roast pork-eclipses the veggies but I'm not complaining. Next time I will have the lemongrass pork bahn mi to mix it up. They renovated the interior so no more stools to sit. Take out only.

Any idea or updates as to what's going on with this place? This was my favorite spot for comfort food in nyc.

Same! The owners of Saiguette have another restaurant called Vietnaam on 2nd Avenue and 88th Street. I got take-out there last night and asked about Saiguette. They said it's being renovated but should re-open in a couple months!

Anyone know if they're really going to reopen? Was my favorite spot and I never really understood why they closed since their entire business is takeaway. Bummed and hoping the proprietors are well, but the reopening date keeps getting pushed back.

I feel the same way. Very weird that they didn't stay open, they would've made a fortune during the pandemic. I don't know when they'll open but I do know that the owners also own "Vietnaam 88" on 2nd Ave with a similar menu. Someone asked them when…

Hi! Are you expected to reopen on Nov 2?

As of 11/10, they seem to still be closed per their website and voicemail message. :-(

    Does this place deliver?

Yes, but you need to call in your order. They're not on Seamless.

Do they have a working phone number? The number listed is disconnected and I'm trying to place an order for pick up with cash which can't be done through door dash.

If (212) 866-6888 doesn't work maybe try calling again

I got the pho ($21.78), which is steep for pho, but I guess that's Midtown prices for you. The wait was a slog--over 20 minutes for a bowl of pho, which other Yelp reviews warned about. When it finally arrived, the soup lacked that authentic pho aroma, which was a letdown. On the plus side, the beef was fresh, and the reusable to-go bag was a nice touch. Decent, but the wait and price make it hard to love. Might try again if they speed things up.

I ordered "Plain Pho", which is described as just broth and noodles, no garnish or meat. After waiting 30 minutes, for what is literally the simplest item on the menu, the bowl is brought out and it's a bowl of broth with a couple slices of chicken. No noodles. When I inquired, the server told me it's because I ordered the Plain Pho... yea and I said it comes with noodles and broth. They told me they could get me noodles, but acted like they were doing me a favor by fetching noodles for me, which was quite offputting because the noodles were quite literally half of the dish I actually ordered. How does one wait half-an-hour at a very casual fast Vietnamese food place, for premade soup and noodles, and still have the order wrong? In the end, I did get my noodles and broth, but the fact that I had to spend this much time and also justify my request for noodles (which are part of the dish) is quite insane. I put this at 2 stars for now, because I enjoyed my first time. Hopefully the service will improve.

So when my family stumbled into Pho 39, a tiny spot with just a handful of tables tucked away from the chaos outside, it felt less like finding a restaurant and more like discovering a Rebel outpost that somehow survived undetected in the middle of Imperial territory. The menu is exactly what you'd expect from a solid Vietnamese spot: pho, combination rice plates, the usual lineup. We were ready to order and move on with our lives. Then we saw the tacos. Vietnamese tacos. On the menu. Sitting right there between the banh mi and the spring rolls like they'd always belonged. Nobody in my family said anything for a full three seconds, which for us is basically a standing ovation. We ordered the duck spring rolls to start, which were fresh, well packed, and disappeared faster than a starfighter in hyperspace. For the mains we went with the beef flank pho and the banh mi combination special. The pho had a clean, well developed broth that clearly had some time put into it, and the beef flank was tender enough to make you slow down and pay attention. The banh mi combo was solid, balanced, and hit all the right notes. We did not get the tacos this visit, which means we have a built in reason to return and nobody can argue with that logic. For a small room in the middle of one of the busiest cities on the planet, Pho 39 manages to feel genuinely calm and focused. Good food, good value, and a menu with enough surprises to keep things interesting. The Force is strong with this little spot.

The beef pad see ew has some of the best noodles I've ever had, the sizzling steak lives up to its entrance, the shrimp summer rolls are fresh, and the chicken laksa is full of flavor. It was about 92°F outside and there was no AC. They did have a couple of fans running to help with the heat, but unfortunately, they weren't enough. The restaurant has an open-kitchen concept, which is nice because you can see the kitchen, but you can also feel the heat coming from it. With the front door left open, the summer heat was coming in as well, making it extremely hot inside. There were also quite a few flies circling around, which I'm assuming was partly due to the door being left open. That made the dining experience less comfortable, especially while eating. I would've given 5 stars for the food because it was delicious, but the heat, flies, and overall dining environment really took away from the experience. I'd definitely come back for the food, but I hope they find a better solution for keeping the restaurant cool and comfortable during the summer months.
