I've never been their early enough to actually taste their regular menu, during the Montrose Crawl. Pistolero's was just another place to drink, get drunk, or be merry depending on your Halloween drinking needs and their fun costume contests they had going on. For the record if you ever need to sober up they have a wide variety of jarritos and Topo Chico which many of us used, when drinking to oblivion wasn't an option. And even with that crowd they were always friendly! Now on to the food. I was genuinely impressed. My husband and I ordered the 10 taco plate, because of money and potential of sharing tacos, which meant we were awesome friends. My favorite tacos that night were the barbacoa and fish tacos. They had a decent veggie taco that was worth tasting for those adventurous people and those who are against eating tasty barbacoa tacos, because it's not veggie. Though trust me, you are missing out. The service was speedy, the drink specials were worth ordering over and over again, but I can't assure you if the happy hour specials were a regular thing or a happy coincidence on Halloween weekend. This is a nice place to visit on crowded busy nights and regular days when you want an interesting plate. I'd go back here if I was in the area. I probably wouldn't order the veggie again, but that's more of a preference and also because, I haven't wrapped my mind around the idea of veggie tacos either. I definitely recommend the Montrose Crawl crowd to come back when it isn't Halloween night or a whole lot earlier to enjoy their full menu. read more

Firstly, I think I've found a new staple Mex. place! The drinks were great and so was the food. The nachos were *chef's kiss* and the steak on them were seasoned to perfection. I also really like the chips they have. I was not too much of a fan of the tamales but my friend was so we'll go with their positive take on it. Listen, friends!!! They've got happy hour on lock! It's not your fancy date spot, but it's perfect before a night out with friends or watching football games. The atmosphere is vibrant and lively and the extensive, affordable happy hour makes it a little too easy to find yourself sipping away on one-too-many margaritas (which are only $4 during happy hour) Not only is happy hour 4-8PM Mon-Fri, but it's 12-8PM Saturday and Sunday, which is a rare find as far as happy hours go. The drinks are affordable, but they also have full size quesadillas and other appetizers for only $6 on the happy hour menu. This review is based off of their taco Tuesday's. It's good! Lol. It gets packed so be prepared to wait a while. We waited about 30 minutes to be seated but it was okay because they offer ice cold water to hold you over. The tacos are super yummy for being so cheap and they have some premium options that are a little more. They have drink specials and the sangria was SO GOOD. I was honestly shocked at how quickly everything came out considering how packed they were. The server had a great attitude even though we could tell they were slammed. Drinks came out quickly so they weren't watered down. The patio is nice they have a bunch of fans going to try to beat the heat. The only drawback is the parking. They do offer valet parking but we got absolutely obliterated by mosquitoes waiting for our car to come. I would definitely Uber next time. My friends and I were in the area and we wanted a quick bite to eat to hold us until dinner. When we walked in, it was practically empty inside (most of the customers were sitting outside) so we were seated pretty quickly. Their drinks were $4 & $5 dollars during the time we were there (around 4) so that was pretty cool! I ordered their Margarita w/ peach, mango & strawberry. It was sooooo tasty!!! The mango really helped to not make the liquor sooo strong which I really liked. But be careful because it will sneak up on you lol. My friend and I decided to share the 5 street tacos for $12 since we didn't want anything to heavy. We each got the Al Pastor & Carnitas and then ordered the cauliflower taco. I must say the cauliflower taco was definitely a tasty surprise because it was seasoned really really well. The Al Pastor & Carnitas were really good as well, but they didn't wow me. It was literally just meat and a flour tortilla with cilantro. Although it was tasty, don't have a super high expectation. I will say the beans were reallyyyyy good! Came to Pistolero's for their happy hour and it certainly is a neighborhood hit for a reason. Their happy hour deals are really unbeatable - $4 margs and under $2 tacos (the shrimp one is the best one). It is an excellent spot to bring a group after work on a weekday. There is indoor and patio seating, both with great ambience. The only woe of this place is the parking - you have to park in the neighborhoods because the restaurant parking lot is tiny and valet only. My cousin had her birthday happy hour celebration at Pistolero's. It was Taco Tuesday ($1 tacos) so of course the place was packed. I probably arrived around 6 pm and it was packed. When we left a few hours later, there was still quite a long line of people waiting to get in. The tacos are so tiny but they are only a $1 so you can't really complain. I had beef and chicken fajita tacos. They were decent given the price, but certainly not the best tacos I've ever had. I had a margarita (on the rocks) for $6 (I had a different type of tequila that was higher quality apparently). The margarita was too tart for my preference. The second margarita that I ordered was half frozen, half rocks and it was a little bit better. At least it was happy hour prices. If I ever come back, I'll probably just stick to beer. I noticed on the menu board that they have leches cake, but I didn't order a piece. The food and drinks for me were just meh. It was so crowded and because of the location, parking isn't easy. As you all can see, my first and last review of Pistolero's was 3 years ago so I am here to update it. Thank you for your time. We had Taco Tuesday for a friend's birthday on 8/16th and it is just the way I remember it. The inside was packed, but I was able to secure seating outside on the patio pretty quickly. I waited maybe four minutes while they cleaned the table. It was 6 of us. We were provided water and service almost instantly. I ordered two grilled shrimp tacos, two fried shrimp tacos, and chips & queso. Yes, I had three frozen margaritas or maybe four. Who knows. Pistolero's does the job. The tacos are 1.50 (2 dollars for shrimp) and the house margaritas are 4 dollars. You can't beat that! Happy hour is Monday-Friday from 4-8 PM and Saturday/Sunday 12-8 PM. I was told that valet parking was 5 for a certain area and 10 for the area. Three years ago they worked off of tips, but okay. Anywho, this is enough for an updated review. We arrived around 6:20 pm on Fri ng, and there was a 45 min as every other table blocked off (covid measures). Outside seating was available, but it was cold so we sat at the bar. Love pistoleros! They have a great location and a wonderful happy hour! We've been multiple times for happy hour and non-happy hour times, but definitely love to take advantage of HH deals! The staff is super nice and there's indoor and outdoor seating, and there's cool decorations around! For example we went around Halloween and they had decorations up! We've had some issues when we go where maybe it's too busy or something but have had trouble with needing to wait for the waiter for extended periods. For example when we went last month there was probably 2 times where we had to wait 30-45 minutes for the waiter, and that made it a bit difficult to get more drinks and then we had to wait longer for apps and food to come out. Overall, still definitely like Ninfas -they have food queso, tacos, and quesadillas among other food items, but a little annoying having to wait for such long times on occasion. Also, if you go you have to try their Margs! One other quick note-the parking around there is a bit limited but they do offer valet and there is some street parking! read more

We went on a Sunday for brunch. I have to say, their happy hour is unreal. And they do their happy hour for most of the day on Sunday. Appetizers are $6 and the mimosa pitcher is $10! So, of course, we got a mimosa pitcher and 2 appetizers: tamales and taquitos. Tamales can be either chicken or pork. We chose mixed and preferred the pork tamale. The taquitos were good and better than the tamales. The sauce that they serve with the taquitos is also really good. My boyfriend also ordered the beef fajita enchiladas with red sauce. He really liked them. I didn't get to try them, but I did try the rice and it was good. For food and drinks it was a 10/10. Now for the reason I knocked a few stars down. The service was awful. When we first got there we were told to sit anywhere we'd like. We picked a table outside and instantly a waitress said hello and brought us some waters. She then explained the happy hour menu to us and brought us the brunch menu. We didn't order right away and asked for a few moments to think about what drinks we wanted. She then didn't come back for about 40 minutes. It actually got to the point where my boyfriend got up to go inside and order at the bar and as he was about to walk away our waitress came back and took our order. We then never got our pitcher. About 20 minutes or so later she brings out the enchiladas and the tamales and asks us if we needed anything else. We reminded her about the pitcher and she goes inside and brings it out to us. We didn't get the taquitos till much later, which was ok. The time it took to get our food wasn't an issue, it was just how long it took to even order and how long it took to get our pitcher. Even with all that being said, we will be back for Sunday brunch. The happy hour menu is just too good to pass up. read more

i think people leaving the 1 star reviews make the mistake of thinking that this is a restaurant. To be crystal clear THIS IS NOT A RESTAURANT. Instead it's a bar that also happens to sell really cheap mediocre food. The service and ambiance that you get here is that of a bar/club. If you want real tex mex and you're not poor just go to Candente, Superica, Ninfa's, El Tiempo, Teotihuacan etc. If you want to get completely wasted and eat some crappy food for $30 come here and enjoy. They have the best Tuesday taco deal in Houston I have seen so far. Their tacos are pretty big. I recommend asking for their SPICY AVOCADO SAUCE ( 50 cents) if you want some heat because their green and red sauce is not spicy at all. Their BEER BATTERED FISH taco is their most popular and you just have to get it to understand. Every time I go I want at least two. The last few times I've been Sammi has been my server. Sat inside with blasting AC and with a DJ that was too loud because the place is set up to sit outside. We decided to ask for a few pitchers of water because those happy hour margaritas are strong! Unfortunately, there was a cockroach in our pitcher of water. Gross! We asked if we could get our last order of nachos compensated for or if we could get a few happy hour margaritas compensated for the people that DRANK THE WATER with the cockroach in it and our server said "Nope, I wish." This place is usually packed no matter what time you go on Tuesday evenings for the special, so be prepared to chill outside lol. It's either that or a wait for an indoor table, and my parties just always rather go outside for some reason. Anyway, the tacos are okay .. I've only ever some for the $1 specials but they're nothing to really go crazy about. The best one is actually the shrimp one to me (not pictured) and it's $1.50 I believe but its way better. I think my least favorite was the chicken. As far as the margaritas? ON POINT. The regular one is soooo good and I'm used to getting mine with some type of flavor (strawberry, mango, etc.) but when I tried the strawberry, it was too syrupy. Made it too sweet but this was after I bad tried a regular one so maybe if I had it first I would've liked it better. PARKING, man their parking gives me anxiety. I hateeee it lol but they have "complimentary" valet (we all know that means at least like $5 because they're going to remind you when you go to give them your ticket and once you take your keys) but yeah, I personally wasn't even about to try to figure it out. The wait can be a little long depending on the amount of people and the weather.
