We ordered the rib meal and a pulled pork sandwich. For our sides we got cheesy Mac, coleslaw and French fries.The cashier and counter people were super friendly. Great experience here at this smaller restaurant located near the Atlanta airport. I think I found my new go to spot when meeting clients! I had to revisit my review based on my most recent experience. I live in the area so this is my to-go restaurant for barbecue. I was delighted to see their new larger location located directly across from the old restaurant. The Friday before Memorial Day, I placed an online order for half a slab of spare ribs. I received a text saying my order was canceled. I called and was told they were out/ They just opened so are you telling me that they did not properly prepare for Memorial Day which is one of the most popular holidays for barbecue? Hmmmm? So, I got baby back ribs and double side of macaroni. They can at least give two slices of cornbread for this order because the slice wasn't large enough for two people to share. I recognized the owner from the Atlanta Eats episode on which the restaurant was featured. I approached him in a friendly manner and asked, "Are you the owner?" He cold answered, "Yes." In the same pleasant tone I said, "I'll have to do a Yelp review on your new location." I did not have big expectations from him, but as the owner I do at least expect you to be friendly, welcoming, and thank customers for their business. On a positive note, the staff were friendly and there is ample free parking in the lot. The owner can take a lesson from his staff on how to properly treat customers. We got the smoked wings with mild bbq sauce, the chopped chicken plate with greens and coleslaw, and the half rack of baby back with mac and cheese and greens. The smoked wings are good enough to come back for. The rub they use has some spice and they are cooked just right. I could stop there but we ordered too much food. The chopped chicken was yummy. Not dry and chopped small would be great in a sandwich. It did not need sauce but both the mild and spicy complemented the flavor. The coleslaw is also finely chopped and not to mayonnaise-y, a little sweet even. Both of us thought the greens were too salty but they are from scratch cooked with a smoked meat off some sort. Today mac and cheese was made with shells and the taste not memorable. The ribs were smoked with a spicy dry rub and had a good smoke ring and flavor. The sauces were not needed but great. Pit Boss BBQ is fantastic. A coworker brought in some ribs from this little gem and shared some with me. I will, forever, be grateful to her for introducing me to this place. The Brunswick stew is where I'm going to start, because like many other foodies and barbecue aficionados, I find that if you don't have a good principles do it's hard to have a good barbecue. The Brunswick stew is some of the best that I've had in a very long time. There is one odd thing about their Brunswick stew - and that is that it has chunks of potato inside. Honestly, at first I thought that was going to be a bad thing. However, the potatoes added extra pockets of heat to the stew, never allowing it to cool down. Plus, the potatoes took on the flavor of the stew, which, again, was great. The stew did not have that awful overtaking us that so many barbecue places put into their Brunswick stew. Instead it relied on the flavor of the meat and had an extra hotness to it from the regular pepper spice. I absolutely loved their Brunswick stew, which is amazing because I usually don't like Brunswick stew. The mac & cheese was very creamy. On the one hand, at first, I was a little disappointed because when I saw it it kind of looked bland. There did not seem to be a crossed even though it says on the menu that it is a baked mac & cheese. However, as I ate the mac & cheese, it grew on me. I needed more of it. I did not mean to, but I actually ate the entire container on my own in the span of approximately 1 1/2 minutes in my car. They use these shell noodles, that allow the sauce to get inside of them and when you bite into one of the shells, there's a lot of cheese sauce inside. Somewhere around halfway, I realized that there is some kind of spice in the mac & cheese - a red spice that sort of looks like it could be Cayenne pepper. I'm not 100% sure, but it turned out to be very delicious. The sweet tea that they offer is not the sweetest in Atlanta, but it is sweet enough to be called a "Southern Sweet tea". They have Coke products, so if you like Coke, then you are set - after all, this is Georgia: home of Coca-Cola. Finally, what you're really wondering about: The hickory and pecan smoked dry-rub ribs. The ribs were and are what are the two best that I've ever had in my life. If you are a native Georgian and you have been to Ellijay, Georgia, then you know about Poole's barbecue. Poole's has served presidents, senators, and other steamed; musicians, movie stars, and other famous entities...all because of their renown. Well, Pit Boss and Poole's have a lot in common when it comes to the flavor of their barbecue. The smokiness is right on and not too heavy. The bark is perfect. The ribs are a little spicy, which I love. The flavor of the meat is enhanced because they allow the ribs to marinate in the dry rub, overnight, for 24 hours- then they slow cook it in the giant smoker. The rib-meat falls off the bone and the fat marbling melts in your mouth. I found myself knowing on the end of the bone, trying to get as much flavor out of it as possible. The bar employees should communicate more with the kitchen to know what they still have available. We ordered but some items were unavailable so we had to choose other options after the fact. In Atlanta again for business & was craving some bbq ribs. This time I decided to try the baby back instead of spare ribs. They were very tender, could have been a little meatier, but I enjoyed them. The ribs and especially the brisket was EXTREMELY DRY!! What a major letdown. We tried dousing it with sauce (which you should not have to do with good bbq), but still found it difficult to swallow. My wife had the chopped pork sandwich and thought it was really good. The cheddar potato side dish was lukewarm and nothing to write home about. I had the 1/2 pound beef brisket with two sides and bread. The brisket was extremely tender but slightly bland and dry without the bbq sauce. When I added the mild bbg sauce which had what I think was an onion and garlic flavor (which was really good) the brisket was great. The collards were awesome. The brunswick stew was unexpectedly spicy but was really good. The "bread" was, I kid you not, a half of a hamburger bun. It was toasted and had butter but was stone cold when I got it. The service (we waited almost 20 minutes after ordering and it wasn't crowded) was a bit slow considering the only thing that would have not already been made was my 1/2 hamburger bun "bread." My wife's chopped pork sandwich, 1 side and a drink was reasonably priced at $9.10. On the other hand, my 1/2 pound brisket, two small sides, 1/2 hamburger bun masquerading as white bread and a drink was a bit pricey, I thought, at $19. Pitt Boss has got it going on! They have really flavorful meats and sandwiches that can suit almost anyone. The person taking your order when you walk in acts like you are the only one in line, taking time to explain the items and make sure you get what you want. The bar is well stocked and has a nice selection of draft beers and bottles. The BBQ is delicious. The brisket is tender, but not mushy, had a nice bite feel. The ribs are the same-requiring you to bite and the the meat releases perfectly. The pulled pork is incredibly full of flavor and tender. Great Brunswick Stew that Should count as another meat. Homemade cornbread with a butter glaze that really goes well with collards that taste like grandma made them. I make BBQ with salty rubs and sometimes it's a little too much - Pitt Boss uses just enough salt and rub to get the flavor in there without being too much for those looking for less salt or on restricted diets. A shake of the salt is all that is needed if you are used to salty Bbq. It is as close to perfection for a busy day in day out business as can possibly be.
