How hipsters ruined gyros. Sriracha doesn't belong in tzatziki sauce. French fries don't belong on gyros, neither do avocados. And that's not even close to greek salad. Most people probably love the chunks of lamb instead of classic gyro meat. No. Not when it's mutton flavor is overbearing. And really $10 for a gyro is ridiculous. read more

In general, I don't like the marriage of Instagram to food, as it seems to lead to places making food that looks nice with taste being an afterthought. I happened to see a picture of the lamb pita with crunchy garbanzo beans on IG and fell to the temptation - with no regrets. The lamb pita was quite tasty and had fun textural contrasts. It's a somewhat simple snack and slightly expensive, but it was constructed well and everything in it tasted fresh and of great quality. I found it cool that there was small batch hot sauce on the tables. I dropped a little on spots of the pita that didn't have much of its native sauce, and it added a nice smokey, spicy touch. I decided to try this dessert, the name of which I forgot, but it was similar to galaktoboureko. Try it! Everyone working in the restaurant was super nice, and seemed to take pride in their food. Disappointed :( every item in my order was cold & sloppy & they forgot my frappe!! Upside is that the food is very good. UPDATE: let me start off by saying that the owner, Valentin cares about rectifying issues with his customers and that to me is extremely important. I really hope this place gets more business. They always seem so empty when I come, but maybe they get enough business with delivery and to go orders. My daughter loves spanakopitas. This place is her favorite spot to get them. They always come out perfect, but they are a little more doughy than I am used to. They also have the BEST fries. Normally, I don't order fries or eat the ones that come with food I order other places, but these are so good that I would even considering ordering these by themselves. The new remodeled place looks chic but, maintains the Greek diner feel. When you enter you have to order your meal first and then you are seated which gives it that street food feel. I had the Lamb Merida with Mythos beer. The lamb was crispy very tasty, I liked how it paired well with the pickled onion and avocado. Had the lamb pita, it was good but the meat was pretty tough at times. It is a luxury pita, nice avocado chunks, delicious sauce, and I really enjoyed everything on it minus the tough pieces of meat. It would be nice to have another option for portion. Example maybe a smaller lamb pita with a side of fries and a drink for $10 would be a hot seller. No one does it quite like this place!!!! Fell in love at first site and bite. The atmosphere and food are BOMB! I come here on special occasions, to feel good, to feel better and to enjoy the moment. It's all due to the amazing tasting food that the chef curated. So far I'm an avid Tirokafteri, lamb skewer and baklava fan. Don't be deceived by the strip mall, everyone knows the best food in LA are in strip malls. The interior design of this place is no less quality of what you would find in a nice place in DTLA, except it's even better because you're eating with longtime local residents and your neighbors. Great food! I ordered the lamb, it was tender, yet crispy and savory. The sauce had a nice mild kick to it and the red pickled onion paired very well with their special home sauce. Already one of my favorite places in Downey, and I'm a local restaurant owner myself. The chef/owner and his partners are hitting on all cylinders already. Atmosphere is clean and comfortable. The food is fresh and well prepared. The items are traditional with a modern twist. Food pricing is fair for what you get. Everything is made to order, not just sitting in a trough waiting to get scooped out. My brother and I had the lamb chops today. The sauce/juice was awesome, especially with the lemon they provided. A little more yogurt sauce would have been nice. Also, their homemade tea and lemonade are the perfect "Alexis Patsouras" (my Greek nickname for an Arnold Palmer). Fatty bite size pieces that tastes just like it does in Greece. I was invited to come here after my GF's brother saw some instagram photos of the food and, because it is close to his house, he was hyped to give it a shot. Before I said yes, I of course checked out the yelp reviews and noticed they are relatively new, but had good reviews. I thought to myself, "what the heck." GLAD I did. Location- the good thing about this place is that it's very close to Downy Landing, but not in the same plaza (so you don't have to deal with the traffic going to Walmart, Panera, and every other shop you can think of). Also, at first glance, I thought there was only street parking, but no, friends, there is an entire parking lot behind it, which is dedicated to a few other shops next door as well, but plenty of parking to say the least. Customer service- nice, nice staff. We were greeted by a small team, all with smiles, and welcoming. They made it a point to say they were there to answer any questions and even let my gf sample some of the sauces before ordering. Our waiter was also very accommodating, checking up on us regularly and making sure we didn't need anything else. Food- Because this place was relatively new, I wasn't expecting the food to be extravagant, but again, I was wrong. We ordered the Chicken souvlaki and GR potatoes, which were absolutely amazing. I suggest dipping the chicken in the sauce. The pita bread was also bomb, warm, thick, and cut into perfect triangles. I would definitely recommend this spot and will def be back for more! Finally a Greek restaurant near work that ACTUALLY serves good Greek food - not just your typical restaurant labeling as mediterranean or greek.. Service - always on point, servers are always in a good mood, and will always make sure that everything you ordered came out the way you like it. Atmosphere - Seating area is always spotless, very open and welcoming, makes you want to relax and enjoy your meal. Food - ahhh, where can I even begin; I personally always order the half kilo chicken with a side of their white rice. The chicken is always moist and never dry; skin is crispy :) Coming from one Greek to another, you need to order their Avgolemono soup, its the best, tastes just like how my grandmother would make it! Also, if you're feeling like trying something different the Grilled Halloumi its very delicious. You can't really go wrong with anything on the menu, all of it is great! Lastly, the owners are usually there and they are very welcoming too which makes the whole dining experience that much better. Today was my first time trying Pita GR and it was almost great. I got there and Ralph took our order and asked if it was our first time - which it was. So he proceeded to go over the menu. He gave me a lot of info which was nice but he lost me half way and just went with the lamb pita as it was the first thing he recommended. Now I've never had lamb so the conclusion is I wasn't a big fan. They gave me a good amount of the lamb but felt the onions and avocado were all at the bottom so each bite was mainly pita and lamb. But besides that the garlic fries were good, the staff was friendly and the location was nice. I'd like to go back and try the chicken since I didn't like the lamb. read more
