I went here last night for dinner & ordered a gyro. I love being able to pick and choose what goes into my pita. I put spinach, sprouts, cucumbers, black olives, feta cheese & tzaiki (sp) in mine and it was great! I expected a little more meat for a $7 pita, but hey, it is what it is. About this location: there are no blinds or curtains so in the late evening, the sun is glaring at EVERY table. The staff is really nice though. I wish there was a Midtown location. read more

I really enjoy coming here. The employees are generally helpful and the lines are never too long. The food is fresh and delicious. I come here often to visit s friend who lives in the upper east side lofts and every time the service is consistent, food is fresh and we enjoy the welcoming atmosphere while we have some good conversation. The food can be a bit pricy but the portions are huge. It does take a while to get the food because the meat is cooked to order but other that that the transaction goes by pretty fast. Went on a search for dino's to find that they had closed their doors. This place was just down the street so I thought that I would give it a try. I walk in and there are three people behind the counter and 5 customers clustered around the counter. I can't figure out if you order your stuff first and then pay, or if you pay and then wait for your order to be assembled. After 2 min. the lady who is tinkering with things looks up and says do you need something. I said yes I would like a gyro. Why would I walk into a business unless I did need something. So she say, oh ok, have you already ordered. Ummm...I thought that it what I just did, but told her no not yet, I would like to order a gyro. So it is one of those pay first, assemble later places. They ask what kind of veggies you want in your pita, load you up on a ton of lettuce and stuff, then you wait for the meat product to be warmed on the griddle. Ahhhh...that explains the back log of people at the counter, they are all waiting on their order to be finished. So I am finally told my gryo is done. I take it to my seat take a bite into thin pita bread that was split and filled like a wrap, and no meat. Hummm... I take another bite. Yup, the lettuce is there, the tomato, the taziki, the olives, but no meat. At the third bite I am considering going to the girl behind the counter to see if they forgot my meat. Not wanting to be wrong I open my gyro up and there are two pieces of gyro meat among my salad in a wrap. I paid as much as I would have at Dino's for two pieces of meat. No, if you are looking for a gyro this is not the place. It you are looking for a wrap that has plenty of greens and chicken choices that is light, this might be the place for you, but you might be better off at Pita Q. read more

I went here today and got a pita for lunch. I had the buffalo chicken pita and it was YUMMY :) Prices are reasonable and both of the girls who were working were very nice. Also, they give a discount if you're a sac state student with your one card. The only downside to this place is that F65 (the shopping center in which it is located) can be busy as hell with St. Francis girls and business people trying to grab a quick lunch. The first time I went in was an evening right before closing. Jesse went over the menu with me for about 10 minutes and was so excited for me to try their best seller, the Baja Chicken Pita. I was searching for an inexpensive place to eat lunch in Sacramento, since I now have to commute there every day for the next 50 days or so. I think I found it at the Pita Pit. They do go a little overboard with the lettuce, but the food was fresh, it was easy to avoid a massive fat attack (cheese/mayo/fatty beef/etc.), and it was fast. And students get a free drink! When you've spent an entire day studying and you're famished, you want something quick. Not only was Pita Pit fast, it was delicious! My advice is to make your own. Pick your filling, pick your sauce and add every veggie possible. You can also ask them to cook you some mushrooms, bell peppers and onions. Follow this recipe and you'll end up with a very tasty and filling meal. Another plus is that if you show your student ID, you get a discount! Being close to Sac state, I can see that being done frequently. We also made a small catering order with Pita Pit a while back. What impressed me was how nice the staff was when we came to pick up our order! They explained the sandwiches on the trays, what sauces they added, provided us with all the condiments, plates, and napkins we would ever need, and offered to help us to our car. Did I mention this was all at 8:30am? It may be more expensive than your standard pizza lunch, but it's always refreshing to provide a healthy and nutritious option for your group. read more

I tried Pita Pit for the first time last night. I had the chicken souvlaki and pita chips with hummus and tzatziki and I will not be returning. The service was good and the people working were nice but the food was disgusting to say the least. I took one bite of my pita and the chicken tasted terrible almost a rubbery and hard texture. I ended up throwing it away after 1 bite. This place reminded me a lot of subway with all the topping you could put on your pita. The hummus did not have a good flavor and neither did the Tzatziki. If I want a pita i'll drive a few blocks over to Opa Opa and get something that resembles food for a few extra dollars. read more

Pita Pit is filling and yummy and reasonably priced, best of all HEALTHY. They used to deliver, and sometimes still do, but you have to call and ask. I have had them deliver to work for the whole office and to school on the weekends when meeting with classmates. I always get tzatziki on a greek pita, but I bet they are all yummy. I loved this place. It's economical, open late, and they offer breakfast pitas. Also, it's not all just Middle Eastern food, and if you're going to a place like this for the purpose of Greek or Mediterranean food, you will probably be disappointed. I like that Pita Pit is trying something different. A wide variety of ingredients that can go into either a white flour or whole wheat pita, and then veritable salad bar of vegetable options to include in it as well. The vegetables were fresh, the pitas soft, all pitas were made to order - your pita maker calls to you and has you walk them through how you want it made. Portion sizes are good for the price (roughly $6-7 per pita sandwich). Staff is friendly, although the space is small and gets crowded quickly at lunchtime. My only major criticism - which is why I docked it down to 3 stars - is that they have a single metal cooktop they use for everything. Cooking all the various types of meat, toasting pitas, toasting falafel... and while watching them, the staff didn't clean the cooktop between orders or keep products separate. I'd prefer not to taste other customers orders. I would also hope - for their vegetarian, kosher, halal and other special dietary needs customers - that they have the ability to make the accommodations if needed. read more

I asked how long is the wait? Lady said you a couple of pitas away. Come to find out I was 4 to 5 pitas and a salad away. Now I'm waiting and getting close for me to pick up my passenger. I really like Pita Pit. It's become my go-to food joint when I don't know what to eat. It's easy, it's fast, and it tastes good and fresh. Though similar to Subway in format and food really, the produce seems a lot fresher with more variety than it's sub-sister. I love how packed with lettuce and other veggies those pitas get. There's a decent sized variety of sauces and meats for the pitas as well. I keep ordering the Caesar salad pita (which is chicken and bacon) and having it filled with shredded lettuce, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, cheddar cheese, and ranch dressing. I'm having trouble ordering anything else off the menu because I really like what I keep getting. Next time I should try to order something else to see if it's nearly as good as what I've been getting! It's easy and it's fast and the service has been great. read more

This has been a long time favorite of mine. I uaed to be a very strict vegan, as such, this was one of the few places i could get a true vegan meal. This and of course they always cleaned the dead animal flesh off of the the grill for my falafal sandwhich. Still my favorite! Falafel, hummus, spinach, pineapple and olives. I frequent this location whenever I'm in the neighborhood because the food is consistently delicious and service efficient and pleasant. Today was a different story. Not only has the menu changed and they have different sizes to choose from, but there was a young lady who works there (pink hair and glasses in case management wants to have a chat with her) that was on a break and eating while on her cell phone. No big deal except it was on speaker phone and she was talking so loudly that it was hard to hear the young lady who was taking my order. The one on the phone got up and walked behind the counter and continued her private and loud conversation while customers were trying to enjoy their meals. I guess I was expecting more of a traditonal Greek restaurant fare after popping into Office Depot and needing some lunch. I was a little surprised when it turned out it was a fast-foodish Subway meets Zorba, though in hindsight, anything with the word "pit" in the title is probably reason for suspicion. You choose a meat, falafel or grilled veggies and then do the pick and choose through the glass window with the add-ons. I noted all the meats are pre-cooked, cold from the fridge and are thrown up on the flattop grill for reheating. I'm glad I didn't get the gyro meat since I really prefer it fresh roasted on a spit. Among the toppings were cukes, olives, corn, spinich, jalapenos, banana peppers, lettuce, other veggies, cheddar and feta cheese, and a whole host of sauces. You can even get bacon on any of the wraps. I decided to keep it more traditional since I was expecting Greek fare initially and opted for the soulvaki chicken in a whole wheat pita, add babaganoush, with banana peppers, olives, spinich, feta, tomatos and tzatziki sauce. It was good but the whole thing was a little bland. And man, when the cash register attendant rang it up and it was $7.60, I suffered a bit of sticker shock. But the ingredients were pretty fresh and I didn't feel heavy after consuming it. Sure, I'd do it again if it was a convenient choice, but I don't think I'll go out of my way to dine there. read more

The pita was soggy, the lettuce was old (you know, when it turns reddish brown), too much feta that overpowered the soggy wrap, and a smaller than expected amount of meat that was not seasoned.
