I know what you are thinking. THREE TIMES in two weeks? Oh yes. I had to return here next time with Simone. She needed to try out the experience. Maybe I am exaggerating for people who think that I must be nuts. I really really enjoy the PITAS here. Simone got the GARDEN pita vegetarian. She herself enjoyed it and she loved it so much that she savored every bite of it. I ordered the usual the Chicken Slouviaki. I know I should've ordered something different next time. I just cannot help myself enjoying my Pita. We savored our pitas that we couldnt even begin our chips that came with our combo meal. We thought if we ate our chips it would ruin the freshness. It's the same as my review the last time. I LOVE IT! The freshness is great. The food is just great. This time I brought someone again to try it. OH she said she will be back again. PARKKING I came here on a FRIDAY around noon. I was surprised to see that the PARKING is packed! People who had SUVs were parking on COMPACT parking spaces. Really terrible. Aww, Pita Pit, I lava you! Pita Pit truly is the mediterranean version of Subway. Though on their menu they have a list of a bunch of different Pitas they can make, what actually goes in each pita (other than the meat) is really up to you. Customization here is KEY. I usually get the chicken souvlaki (trust me, it is divine), and add all the things to it. I definitely overstuff my pita full of veggie goodness (in addition to the grilled mushrooms and onions, I add spinach, cucumber, tomatoes, olives, feta cheese, and tzatziki sauce.) I also love that they have whole-wheat pitas (yay for attempting to be health conscious). The ingredients are fresh and make for a scrumptious pita-- definitely has become a go-to place for me when I'm too lazy to cook and just want to grab a quick bite to eat. I will say though, that I wish they listed what their "recommended" ingredients/toppings for each type of pita were. You can find them online, but it would be more convenient if they could find a way to squish that on the giant board where they list the types of pita. Even so, if you get stuck, just ask the person helping you what they would recommend you add for the type of pita you ordered-- they usually know what they're talking about. All the people who work at Pita Pit are super sweet and very student-friendly (show your student ID card for a discount on the combo!). A lot of the people who work here are also Sac State students, so that might have something to do with it... Again, with everything else in this plaza, I love the location. Recently I've been combining my Pita Pit trips with Starbucks runs and it's been lovely. tl;dr: Roommate can attest... I have become obsessed with this place. Maybe I'm still in the honeymoon phase with this place, but I ate here for the first time and I was seeing stars. The guy who rang us up was super nice about explaining how to order, and made recommendations - NOT just the most expensive things on the menu, which was super nice to see. We got there pretty late in the day, and the vegetables still looked fairly fresh. Their banana peppers were good! Not the flimsy pre-sliced kind. For the other reviewers who compared this place to Subway - lemme tell you from experience. By the end of the day, produce at Subway doesn't look anywhere near as fresh as the stuff at Pita Pit. (And if you frequent Subway, you should stop doing so and start eating at Sandwich Spot, next door to Pita Pit, but that's a story for a different review). Anyway - the guy ringing us up was also nice enough to give us discounts on the combo, despite the fact that I'm the only one who's a Sac State student and cannot be relied upon to ever have my student ID. He actually gave us a DOUBLE discount when he saw my husband's military ID, because he wanted us to be convinced to come back. But - long story short, fresh and delicious! Extra healthy with a wonderful selection of fresh options. I found that the employees here were very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and I enjoy looking at all of the food art on the wall. The price is fairly affordable and this location does offer a discount for sac state students. This time I ordered the steak fajita pita. They let you top it with as many fresh vegies as you want. I found all the vegies to be fresh and the service is consistent. You can always ask for any vegies and cheese grilled too. They have food that can fit any dietary need, from vegan to paleo. Hmmm....what to say about the Pita Pit. I think above all, the ingredients were super fresh and the pita-style sandwiches they server are pretty good! I like the variety of fixing you can put into your pita sandwich, bit sometimes too many options can be a bad thing, so I just asked them to put in the Gyro what they typically would. Might take you a few times to get a good pita set up. The staff was friendly as well, but it was just so dang slow. There were only 2 of us in the entire place - no line - and yet it took forever to make a little pita thing....didn't seem like there was much, if any, urgency. It is definitely a college spot where all the Sac State students come to eat. With a coupon you can get a pretty good price too! I've been to Pita Pit twice - enjoyed it the first time, thought it was only okay the second time. I've only ordered the gyros, since it's a meat I can't find anywhere that easily. The food is good, but I think it depends on who is making your pita. When I went the second time, they put way too much feta cheese - in huge giant clumps, and the flavor was overpowering. I still prefer eating at a place like Daphne's Greek Cafe, because there are other dishes and sides (Greek salad, rice pilaf, french fries). At Pita Pit, you can order hummus on the side, but it's tiny and not really worth it. They also have chips. Parking is difficult in the area, because there are other businesses in the area that share the same lot. If you're a Sac State student, they accept the OneCard for payment, and also give you a free drink if you show your ID. read more

Yummy food!! I got the Philly Steak Pita and it was delicious! You get a choice of either White or Wheat Pita bread, choose your own toppings (veggies, fruits) and can add sauces as you like! The service is quick and friendly too! The inside is similar to Subway in that it's quick dining but still dining friendly. There is only one bathroom but it's clean. Parking is free and plentiful. If you're a CSUS student, you get a discount on food ;) If you're looking for lunch near CSUS, I'd say give The Pita Pit a shot, especially the Philly Steak :) read more

Apparently this is the Subway of "Mediterranean" food. Had their gyro and was disappointed first by it being rolled closed like a burrito. The bread isnt an actual pita but rather something that tastes pita like but is thin and rolls like a wrap or a tortilla. Not bad tasting but odd. Was also disappointed that they used spinach instead of lettuce and added black olives. Finally, the tzatziki sauce just isnt. Seems to be mayo based instead of yoghurt. During my internship this summer, I often come here for a salad or occasional pita, mostly falafel salad with balsamic or hummus pita with tzatziki. Service was quick, staff friendly, and I come here enough to where they already know what I'm going to order.
