Stopped in front of a blue truck titled "Pita Pusher" and decided to take a walk on the wild side and get a falafel wrap.

We ordered the LA Spicy Philly and it did not disappoint. Genuinely one of the best Philly cheesesteaks I've had, the flavor was phenomenal from start to finish. And the best part? I personally confirmed with the owners over the phone that their cheesesteak is halal, which means the whole family can enjoy it together. That's huge. If you're in Sherman Oaks or anywhere nearby, you need to try this place. Food: 5/5 Location: 5/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 (only because they're super busy right now, which honestly is a good sign!) Stopped by on opening day - to a mostly smooth brick and mortar operation kicking off. Went with…read morethe classic Philly, with the house made Wiz. I made it a combo and also ordered the hot lemon pepper wings. Wasn't mad about my food. It kept my tastebuds occupied for the England v France bronze game. The portions, for what I paid...I'll accept. The cheesesteak landscape in LA is still a small neighborhood. You got the mall chain, the imported-from-Philly chain (my fave), and the indie complex, where Jawny's and a handful of other developing entities reside. LA loves a good hot, chopped sandwich and businesses will continue to showcase their take on the east coast institution. Even fast service megas, like Jack in the Crack and Arby's, are making sure they can ride the cheesesteak wave. Did Jawny's keep up with my favorite? Not so much. Not with the classic. I'm not even sure what was so proprietary about the house made Wiz. And the overall value made the original steak feel like more of a hyped, boutique version of the cheesteak. It just wasn't substance-forward. But this restaurant will technically be more accessible than the carwash pop-up was, and that counts in my hemisphere. To be honest, I see myself ordering their wings more often, as a closer alternative to Wingstop. Ultimately, Jawny's is middle of the road for me. Seems it'll be passible food that I can stand to pay for some of the time. But congratulations on a place to call your own, y'all! That much, for sure, deserves a salute.

She had mentioned before how much she liked the food, so I knew I had to check it out for myself. The stand is located in the parking lot of Circus Liquor. It's a decent-sized setup, and since we showed up earlier in the day there wasn't a line. I'm really glad we beat the rush because I've heard this spot can get packed. We skimmed the menu pretty quickly because I already knew I wanted to try the lomo tacos. I ordered two, she got three, and we shared an order of fries. The service was friendly and polite, and our food came out within just a few minutes. There isn't any seating, so we ended up eating in the car which I honestly didn't mind at all. The tortillas tasted fresh and almost handmade, and the tacos had all the same delicious flavors you'd expect from lomo saltado--minus the fries, so it worked out perfectly that we ordered some on the side. The fries themselves were hot, crispy, and well seasoned without being overly salty. They paired really well with the tacos. I'd definitely come back again. While looking over the menu afterward, I noticed they have a lomo saltado pizza?! I'm honestly a little sad I missed that the first time around, but hey... now I have an excuse to return.

The thing that made us most curious was the size is a bit larger than normal and the ones being steamed at the farmers market smelled so good. The recipe has been handed down for generations and the I want to say the masa is mixed with actual lard for a more authentic and savory taste. Each is also handmade and the imperfections give it an awesome home made feel and texture. We got the Pork in Green Tomatillo Sauce and Beef in Red Mole Sauce. Both were excellent though we did like them more covered in some of their green and red salsa. The size makes them more filling than other tamales but not to the point where you feel stuffed.

I never saw a sweet tamale before, so I had to try this. I thought it would be too dry when I opened it, but that was not the case at all. Each bite had just enough moisture and was also not too sweet. Some type of sauce could have been useful, but not a big deal. It was simple and unique at the same time. Will I go back? Yeah.
