    At the Newark Farmers Market
    D.wight L.

Ran into this food stand at the Newark Farmer's Market on Sundays. They only do tamales, which you can already get steamed there or buy cold ones that you can heat at home. I've only done the latter and it has worked out quite well thus far. All tamales are about $5 bucks each and they are a good size. 1 is actually a decent light meal as masa dough is quite filling for me. The ones I take home can be warmed up over stove top in a steamer set up with a lid. I give those a good 10 minutes in constant moist steam. But I've also microwaved one at a time where I cover the tamale with a wet paper towel and just go full power for about 4-5 minutes. Sure this way is faster but the steamer method is more authentic and produces a more moist and supple end product. The microwave can tend to over cook /dry out the edges. Nothing horrible especially if you add some of their delicious spicy salsa but now given the choice and knowledge, I'll opt to be patient and go for the better results in steaming them conventionally. They offer like 5-7 different types but I've only tried 3. They have all the popular meat ones beef, chicken and pork. And they may even have 2-3 vegetarian ones, with the cheese and poblano pepper one being the one I tried. And there's also 1-2 sweet ones for dessert mode. Beef Tamale (4*). Solid great flavor in both the masa and the beef filling. Their masa isn't the red-ish type but rather pretty white-ish. It's is pretty moist and smooth, not as gritty as others. The filling is shredded beef in a red chile sauce so probably a Chile Colorado prep. I think their masa ratio is a bit heavy on the masa as I tend to like a more 50/50 ratio of filling to masa. But this ratio does make it more filling to eat. This tamale is really good with their red salsa which comes in a large packet. It is thin, a little tomato-y and a lot chili. This actually has a decent burn, I'd say medium high level as it put a sweat on my brow. Pork Tamale (4*) I think I liked the beef a tad more than their pork filling. The pork is chile verde style. Pork filling is also lighter in texture than the beef. Cheese & Poblano (5*) This was my favorite tamale here. A big chunk of melty white cheese in the middle that when heated up just melds with the masa and actually has a cheese pull if you stretch it. And there is a nice chunky strip of roasted green poblano chile in the center, which works wonderfully with the soft masa and the creamy cheese. And doused with that spicy salsa, I could eat this everyday if I could. Actually this warm tamale, with a cup of full bodied coffee in the morning is one of my all time favorite weekend breakfasts. Trust! So I've been hitting this farmers market more often these days, like 2-3 times per month. I always come home with seasonal organic fruits/veggies and now a few tamales to eat for the next few days. And to have meals ahead of me that require very little kitchen time for the early part of the work week is a pretty sweet score.

We get our Tamale Fiesta tamales at the Tustin Farmers' Market at the District Tustin Legacy. The employees are always super friendly and some of them even have an amazing sense of humor while being generous at the same time. These tamales are seriously the best tamales ever and have no lard or trans fat! That is the key for me, aside from how the corn, meat, and both salsas taste so professional and comforting at the same time. This is the tamale spot for our needs!

the beef and red mole sauce was great! the spinach and cheese was great too! they were pretty good size too. I should have asked for more salsa. the red really packed a punch. The green was mellow and earthy. both worthy of being portioned in those cute pouches :) I checked the website and was moved by their origin story. MUCH RESPECT! Thanks for bringing awesome tamales to the Alameda farmers market.

I happen to try out The Tamale Fiesta food truck. It was across from the boats that take you around San Diego Harbor. I had a chicken tamale and a beef tamale. Both were sizable, moist, tender, and tasty. The price was five dollars each. I would happily return to this food truck.

I had the chance to try both the pork in green sauce and the beef in red sauce, and I can confirm that there was very much a tamale fiesta in my mouth. They were simultaneously the best tamales I've ever had. Very hearty, flavorful, and affordable. The meat was very tender in both versions. I'm surprised this place doesn't have a Yelp listing yet. They don't have a website either, but it looks like they've been active on Facebook and IG for a couple years. Stumbled upon them completely by accident at a night market in Palm Springs. They certainly traveled a long way!! Hope to catch them at future pop-ups throughout Southern California!

She had mentioned before how much she liked the food, so I knew I had to check it out for myself. The stand is located in the parking lot of Circus Liquor. It's a decent-sized setup, and since we showed up earlier in the day there wasn't a line. I'm really glad we beat the rush because I've heard this spot can get packed. We skimmed the menu pretty quickly because I already knew I wanted to try the lomo tacos. I ordered two, she got three, and we shared an order of fries. The service was friendly and polite, and our food came out within just a few minutes. There isn't any seating, so we ended up eating in the car which I honestly didn't mind at all. The tortillas tasted fresh and almost handmade, and the tacos had all the same delicious flavors you'd expect from lomo saltado--minus the fries, so it worked out perfectly that we ordered some on the side. The fries themselves were hot, crispy, and well seasoned without being overly salty. They paired really well with the tacos. I'd definitely come back again. While looking over the menu afterward, I noticed they have a lomo saltado pizza?! I'm honestly a little sad I missed that the first time around, but hey... now I have an excuse to return.

The bean dip is absolutely delicious, and the chicken taquitos and margaritas are made to perfection. My family and I have also ordered catering from them for our Christmas parties, and although it's first-come-first-served (which can be a bit of a hassle), it was completely worth it. The amount of food we got for the price quoted was an absolute steal. Since this is their best location in my opinion, it does get packed and you can end up waiting a while. But it's worth it every time, especially given how great the food is. The staff is wonderful too, doing a great job of taking orders and getting everything out in a reasonable amount of time.
