I hate the lines for this ride but I love the swinging gondolas. This Mickey's Fun Wheel is located inside Disney's California Adventure Park. It is all the way in the back of the theme park. When I get here I mostly try to hit up all the things that are the furthest away from the entrance and walk my way back. It seems shorter in a sense and I feel like I get more things done! When I first went on this ride I was pretty scared every time the gondola was shifting and swaying. I would scream. It almost feels like this thing might break and that you are too heavy for it. However they did this ride it is quite safe and still very fun. I just really really wish it was a faster line! :( read more

I'm a rolly-coaster kind of girl. The taller, faster, dippier, looptier, droppier they are, the more I love them. I like the speed, I like the thrill. I've never met a rolly coaster I didn't like. And yet, this wheel had me in tears in just under a minute. Let me go back. My husband decided we should go on this "ride" while we were at DCA. It was something we hadn't done in a while, so while I was initially hesitant (our last trip was a little unsettling, from what I remembered), I was game. I mean - it's a Ferris Wheel, for crying out loud. I can stand going around in a slow circle for five minutes! Famous last words. We stood in the "swinging" line for about twenty minutes, and when we got to the front, the operator asked me if I wanted a car to ourselves. I was thrilled by the question (the kids behind us were obnoxious and loud), so I immediately replied with, "Yes, please." She nodded and got us settled in the car, with my husband sitting down next to me on one side. Now, before the wheel even started to move, I got up and moved to other side, so that we were facing each other. My husband was offended, apparently, and got up to follow me. Bad. Idea. Once the wheel started to move, the car started to swing. And once it started to swing, my anxiety level skyrocketed. Now look - logically, I *knew* that the car wasn't going to flip over. Logically. Emotionally, however, my mind was telling me that I was in danger, and that the car would be my coffin. It didn't help that we were off-balance, because my damn husband insisted on being next to me, instead of across from me, as I had asked. I started to pray. Loudly. Okay, "pray" might be too nice a term for the things that were coming out of my mouth. I cursed. And then I started to cry. And this whole time, my jerk of a husband is laughing at me. I was in tears, I was starting to hyperventilate, and he's sitting there chortling over my distress. It was as we were coming to the top of our first circuit that he stopped laughing at me to really look, and realized, hey - my wife's not joking. He beat a hasty retreat over to the opposite bench - asking the whole time if that's what I wanted (not like I could reply with my stomach and my heart battling out for space in my throat) - while also asking me if I was okay. I think he thought I was going to pass out. He wasn't far off. Once he got his ass over on the bench opposite, the swinging lessened dramatically. It took a while for my mind and my body to make the connection - hubs is on the other side, car isn't swinging in loops - but eventually I started to calm down a bit. We made it through the second circuit with only a few hiccups of fear from me, but let me tell ya - I could NOT get out of that car fast enough, once our ride ended. I apologize for not having pictures. I was too busy trying to force my fingers from their death grip on the car's grates to worry about scenery and photo opportunities. I'd be surprised if I didn't leave a permanent mark in the grates, super-hero style. It's a great distraction, and you do get some wonderful views up top. But honestly, I wouldn't do the swinging car again, even if my husband acquiesces and sits opposite me. I didn't like that feeling one bit! And thank GOD we were alone in that car! I can't even imagine what the people behind me would have thought about my antics that day! read more

My brother and I did not brave the cars that swing back and forth -- those look TERRIFYING. The regular cars are like any other ferris wheel, except that it is a big-ass wheel, and you feel like you're up even higher cause you're on the dock looking down over water. Even if the ride isn't busy, you'll be waiting in line for a while while they load each car. This means you'll hear, "Welcome to Mickey's Fun Wheel!" by some guy with a funny accent about a bajillion times. (My favorite part of the ride, haha!) The view is the only one like it you'll get in California Adventure, so I think it's worth a ride if you're not afraid of heights. You get a good view of all the lights over Orange County if you ride at night. Might as well bring your significant other and have a good, long make-out sesh. Part I (last year): I do love this ride (I love ferris wheels!), and I want to go on the moving one sometime (hubby's got motion sickness and a heights thing, but I don't). Last year, we took our little man on it, and he's so fearless, it's a trip! He really liked it. Beautiful views of the park. Anyway, we rode with another couple (no child) and got to talking with them, they had the 5 day hopper, so they were chill (to spend more than one day would be really nice, ok, yes, I was a little jealous, I admit it). (See, last year, our son was younger, and could not understand that we were leaving a ride to go to another ride, and was crying every time.) Part II (this year) This year, this part of the park was closing early due to the World Of Color (like the water show at the Bellagio casino/hotel, but Disney-themed), so we didn't get to go on it. Sad face. Maybe next time. But not in October, it's too darn hot (complete with humidity). At least, our nearly-three-year-old understood about the rides this year (no crying, but lots of pointing vigorously at the gate entrance of each ride we stood in line). read more

Because not to many Ferris Wheels exist with two types of gondolas (swinging and non-swinging) many people want to experience this attraction. This attraction seems to be a hit with young couples who want some alone time with each other. If you want a swinging gondola (as most people do), enter the queue from the attraction marquee. Travel down the ramp and once at the bottom there are two sides to choose from. Both sides do swing so choose the one with less of a line, which tends to be the left side. For a non-swinging gondola, you may enter through the exit ramp and take that all the way down. The queue for the non-swinging gondola forms along the wall. The wheel takes two cycles. The first cycle is a stop and go so it can load all 24 gondolas. Once the last set of gondolas have been loaded it will make one complete loop. But beware... If any Guests want off during that second non-stop cycle, the Cast Members will stop the ride and allow the Guest(s) to get off. When the ride starts up again, it will only pick up where it left off. So it's pretty much two cycles no matter what. The ride can last up to 8 minutes if everything goes as planned. Each gondola can accommodate up to 8 Guests. When the line gets long (usually past the 15 min mark) the Cast Members will start putting small groups of 1,2,or 3 with other small parties of 1,2, or 3 in order to make the wait as short as possible. If you want your own gondola when the Cast Members are putting small parties together with other small parties, just ask the Cast Member as most times they may be able to accommodate. Want one of the swinging gondolas? This line. One of the normal gondolas? That line. I made the knowing mistake of thinking it'd be fun to go up in the swinging gondola. WRONG. Holy eff-balls, this is a scary mess of a ride. Fun Wheel? More like Scare Wheel. Swinging wildly around in a little mesh gondola, and there's nothing to stop it. I'm scared of heights, I'm especially scared of heights with cars moving back and forth! You get a choice of lines here. The swinging car or the non-swinging car. Swinging takes 30 minutes, non-swinging takes 20. We went for the non-swinging, thank goodness! Once you get in and they close the door and sit, everything was fine. But when it started moving that's when I started to panic. I started getting dizzy just by my peripheral vision, I mean, I wouldn't look down, I wouldn't look up, I only looked at the my groups smiling faces as the ride moved to the top of the wheel! And it didn't help that 2 people in my group started pounding on the door and trying to make the car move. Oh no no no no no... panic! Scared! Dizzy!! The best part about this ride is not the ride itself, but rather watching people freak out on this ride. You should always, always, always choose the Swinging Gondola, and try to take people who have never been on the ride to experience it's unique adventure. Since it looks so tame, and moves so slow, people underestimate how scary it can be. Today, our group had three people who experienced the terror of the Swinging Gondolas, but fortunately cameras and GoPros were present to capture the events for posterity. Fun ride! read more

Should be called "Mickey's Wheel of Terror" for the moving gondolas. I wish I could say I fought the good fight and dealt with the moving and sliding gondola like a champ. I wish I could say that I even rode the moving gondola, but I didn't. My child and my fiance didn't want to ride it and instead wanted to ride the non-moving gondola - but I confess, I was glad. I like certain rides, but after sitting across the pier and watching these gondolas, I was afraid the lunch I ate hours before would make it's way back out, so I decided to take the easy ride up on this Ferris wheel. It goes up pretty high and is a great view all around. You could see all the larger rides in Disneyland (like the Matterhorn, Space Mountain...etc) and get a general view of the entire parks and a few blocks around the park as well. It's a smooth ride and worth a trip. While you are in your non-moving, peaceful, relaxing still gondola, you will hear the screams of horror coming those who are in the sliding gondolas around you. It's almost like you're in some horror moving waiting room with a great view listening to the screams of torturous terror coming from all around you. The only thing you can do is laugh at their horror and screams. Maybe next time I'll garner up the courage (and not eat at least 3 hours before) and take the sliding gondola. Anyway, large wheel that reaches a great height. Placed beautifully next to the coaster and makes a great picture both during the day and at night. If you're in California Adventure, you must go on this at least once. read more

Mickey's Fun Wheel is a great ride for those who enjoy ferris wheels or if you want to get an awesome view of the park. There are 2 lines - swinging gondolas and non-swinging gondalas. Although the line for a swinging gondala might look longer than the other, remember that there are 2 swinging gondalas for every non-swinging one, so judge accordingly. Also keep in mind that the non-swinging ride is very mellow, whereas the swinging one is definitely not mellow and can be quite intense. read more

Absolutely HUGE wheel with an awesome view - especially at night, when the entire Paradise Pier area is lit up. The line length varies (duh) but there's always at least a few more people in the swinging gondola line ... so you know that's where the fun is at. There were only two of us so we had some friendly company in the gondola - pleasant conversation while the gondola wasn't a-swingin' and some vomit to hold back when the ride was doing its thing. Mickey's Fun Wheel is definitely a more mellow ride, great to unwind after a few rollercoasters - but for that extra pizzazz, it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. read more

This is one intense ferris wheel...well it can be. There are two different seating areas on ferris wheel, one side has a normal seat that is stationary and the other has a seat that moves and boy does it move. Each type of seat has its own ride. I hate the ferris wheel because it stops at the top to let people in and out. That freaks me out and drives me nuts but Adam loves the ferris wheel so we needed to compromise and we went on but on a stationary seat. The ride for stationary is much shorter than the moving seat so we got to go on quickly and go around a couple of times which let us see almost the entire park. Besides just being on the ferris wheel, the thing I didn't like is that the seat is fully enclosed. You get these amazing views but you can't take any good pictures because you are enclosed in a cage. If you like thrill rides and like the ferris wheel, I suggest getting on this ride. read more

Funny! You wouldn't think the ride is as scary as it is from just watching it from the pier, but it is scary! It's also funny because the first time we got on it, there was a "tough guy" with his family and he was freaked out every time we swung. LOL He would go "whoa WHOA!" It's not your typical ferris wheel as there are some gondolas that roll and swing depending on if you are going up or down on the ferris wheel. You feel like you are swung out and its a pretty big swing. They also have some gondolas that are anchored so there is no swinging, like a normal ferris wheel. You can sit up to 6 per cart and it is fully enclosed so you wont be able to fall out. It also goes pretty high over head and you get a great view of the surrounding city. Ride at your own risk and see if you can go on with a "tough guy" too! hehe read more

The stash of barf bags on the side door should have been our warning. This ride is scary as fuck. This is not your boring cheesy Ferris Wheel. The swinging carts had me wanting to shit my pants. They roll back and forth, and the momentum is so strong there are times you are close to parallel with the ground. There are no seat belts or oh-shit-bars or anything to hold onto. After 1 time around, we were the cart of 4 adults that had to ask the ride operator to stop to let us off. Walked off with my head held high though! Not a complete never-again, but a probably-not-again. Great view, and when you're not praying for God to save your life, it's nice on top. read more

I feel like you either hate this ride or you love it. There is no in between here. You either love the feel of the butterflies you get deep in your stomach when the wheel starts to drop you up and down or you want to throw up. I am in love with this ride! I love the thrill, and I love the views from the top of this Ferris wheel! Its the best views of the entire park! If you are someone who has a sensitive stomach or you get motion sickness easily this may not be the ride for you. Without fail every time we go on here it makes my fiance sick to his stomach and he doesn't even have a weak stomach. NOT my favorite ride - the ride itself is fun, but if you get stuck staring at strangers in your ride vehicle if you're in a small party (2-3 people). It's uncomfortable on many levels. A - close proximity with strangers. B - you're stuck staring out the window to your left or right, avoiding eye contact with the strangers. C - your neck hurts from looking out to the left or right and D - you avoid conversation at a normal volume because you're so close to strangers It's just awkward. Super Quick Review. On our first real date, I saw this with Pumpkie... but I was petrified. I am scared of heights to begin with so the idea of being in a ferris wheel itself is a scary idea to me. Now, the idea of being in one... so close to the water and then having them slide down on these bars and swing like one of those crazy dragon swings that they have in carnivals. No thank you. But... it's been in the back of my mind since that day. The idea of it... terrifying. The fact that I'm petrified of it. Even more irritating. So we walked up to it (now a year later)... I looked at it for about 5-10 minutes... watching the little swinging gondolas and said I was too scared. Half way, walking around... I said to myself that I wasn't going to do this again. Besides, I went on that crazy Tower of Terror ride already and loved it... so I should just do this and get it over with. So, I made the poor Pumpkie walk all the way back around to get back on. I'm not going to lie. I was scared as anything. My hands were all sweaty and I had a huge pit in my stomach... and I didn't want to "cheat" and get on the non-swinging gondola. If I was going to do this thing, I wanted to go all in. So we got in... it's really quite terrifying. The first time, we slide back we weren't that high and it's not as bad. Some of the later and higher ones... Yikes! It's a scary experience. You swing and can almost look straight down below you. Frightening. I screamed and clutched the poor Pumpkie and he says I told him not to scream... since he was. Hey... someone's gotta stay calm right?! It was frightening but I'm so glad that I did it. I really really am. I felt so good afterward and still feel good about it and it's something I don't have to think about any more. So... why the three stars?! Because it's still scary as hell and I would do it again if I had to but I don't have the need to do it for myself any more. read more

I really want to love this attraction. I find the swinging vehicles to be so much fun. (You have the option of swinging and non-swinging.) But I just can't believe how long the queue for this attraction can get, and it feels like forever. Once in the vehicle, it's like every other ferris wheel where you have to wait as people get on and off. Once everyone is on, they let you go around once. Then, you wait again for everyone to get off. I guess... I just don't have the patience for this attraction all the time, so I'll just go on it every once in a while. My recommendation? Try it once. People can say what they want about this ride...the funny thing is, you will see most people give it a 3 star but it's not because of the quality of the ride, but the state most people are in when they ride it. Me? Completely sober and nothing but nerves of steel. I happen to be superman when it comes to the biggest and baddest coasters on this planet. If only for a few seconds, Mickey's Fun Wheel turned me into a baby. This ride starts off rather normally. And of interest is that if you are already someone that has a fear of ferris wheels then make sure you get on one of the swinging, rolling carriages. You only get to go around twice, and it happens rather slowly, offering you the best view of the park "for a longer period of time than the 1/2 a second you get before dropping to your mental death on tower of terror", and then something crazy happens. You are past the top point of the ride, and you don't even realize it because you have been chatting it up with your friends or whatnot, and suddenly, the carriage starts to violently roll down the freaking bars! You have one view at this point and one view only...the river bend and ground below you, and then you reach the end of the bars and swear the ride has rolled off the bars and thing you are violently snapped back, swung, and rolled back up the track...at which point as you lose your head, you start rolling back down the bars again! This happens 2 or 3 times, and by the end of that, it's over. I am now scared to death of a ferris wheel. It may be the only one I fear, but lord knows I would use magic if I knew how to bind this thing to the depths of middle earth if I could to make sure only those who make it there have already gone through hell in preparations for what's going to happen at the top of that ride lol. You've been warned. I give Mickey's Fun Wheel a violent 4 out of 5 stars. read more

First off, I'm not really afraid of heights or small spaces. I've never felt compelled to ride this ride, since it looked a bit intimidating with its unusual track and sliding gondolas but the stationary ones looked boring. I was convinced by my boyfriend to go on this and decided that it was worth trying. After all, I may like it! The person who made this ride is sadistic. I sat down and immediately noticed that it didn't have anything to grip onto and no seat belts. Granted, these things aren't standard in ferris wheels. I found that when I'm in a cage sliding down a tilting track with little control, I would very much like something to at least grip onto! Even if it was simply a fabric strap attached to the inside of the gondola, I'd be happy. My boyfriend couldn't stop laughing at me, since I must have looked like a scared animal, clinging to the cage walls for some sense of grounding or propping my feet against the bench across from me because I had the illusion of that I may be slammed against one of the walls due to the swinging of the gondola when it reached a lull in the track. I only intend to ride it again for the simple fact of proving to my boyfriend that I can do it without acting like a maniac. read more

I would not recommend this ride. Especially not the swinging gondolas. There are two lines. One has cars that are fixed and another with cars that rock around on a smaller circular track as the wheel goes around. You just rock around a lot as you go around the Ferris wheel and it stops frequently to let people on at the bottom. You will leave motion sick with very little reward for your trouble. It's not a particularly exciting ride and it leaves you feeling unwell. You have been warned. read more

Do people get the concept of this ride? Do not tell them!! The first time I rode it was with the wife, my 6 year old daughter, one year old son and four month old baby. It never effing fails- I go to ride this mother and I ALWAYS get stuck w/ other guests that didn't want to swing. So, for clarification purposes, this is your typical ferris wheel that actually isn't like your typical ferris wheel (are you still w/ me?) There are two types of the gondola buckets on this ride: Swinging and Stationary, or Non-Swinging. Forgive me if I get out of line a lil' here, but I would expect ANYONE that isn't too cheap to spare some common "cents" to understand there is a difference between swinging and non-swinging; even if it was Obvious Day at Camp Stupid people should realize there's a difference. As such, there are two different lines associated w/ the two different ride experiences. The left is the safe, non-swinging route while the right is the more adventurous swinging side. The swinging side always has a longer line. Idk if it's human nature now to just not pay attention to anything other than ones cellphone or to just instinctively and blindly queue into where you see the most people. Anyway, once you have boarded you get to make about two trips around. For the faint of heart this is my informative warning to you: there are no seatbelts, straps, lap bars, harnesses, or handlebars of any sort, so if you're not like Flobots then don't attempt to ride this ride with no handlebars. There are barf bags though for the extra queasy so you don't disturb the other riders w/ your vomit. The sheer momentum of the swinging buckets can apparently be very...intense for some, so if u don't wanna swing in one, gtfo into the non-swinging line. Why should my fun be hampered because I have to cater to individuals who can't spare two seconds away from Angry Birds or Words With Friends to look @ a freaking sign. Whichever bucket u end up in, the ride does offer a great view of the surrounding Paradise Pier. This particular ride was not so recently changed from the Sun Wheel into the more pleasant Mickey's Fun Wheel. This ferris wheel fits the carny boardwalk theme of DCA's Paradise Pier, so we can overlook the notion of Walt Disney not wanting a ferris wheel in his park for fear of it appearing to carnival-esqe. I write this review on behalf of my 4 year old daughter. If I were to really to write this review, I'd give it 0 stars because I HATE ferris wheels, especially the moving pods. On to the review. The first time she went on the fun wheel, was at the insistence of my 7 year old nephew. In to the moving pod we went. It was my nephew and brother on one side, my sister in-law, my daughter, and I on the other side. WHY ARE THERE NO SEATBELTS?!?--oops..not my review. Anyhoo...as the pod moved side to side, up and down, my sister in-law and I (and nephew) were screaming at the top of our lungs. My daughter...she had a blast. She was laughing, had her arms up saying "wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" all through out the time we were in there. That was a year ago. Earlier this year, she convinced her dad to ride on it (and of course she wanted me to go). Her dad (and another person) sat on one side while she sat on the other side with me (along with another person as well). I was screaming (again), while she was telling me to pipe down and was asking me what kind of snacks did I have in my bag because she was hungry. So here I am screaming..while my kid is munching on a bag of popcorn. The last time we went to CA Adventures was about a month and a half ago. My daughter was telling my mom and dad how she wanted to go on it, and she wanted them to go on it too. I warned my mom beforehand "Do not let her talk you into going on the pod that moves, because she will and you will not like it" My mom responds "sure sure..." well, guess what happened. My 4 yr old talked her grandparents into the moving pod. She even shushed her grandma because the screaming was hurting her ears. I couldn't stop laughing when my mom told me. All I had to say was "I told you not to let her talk you into going into the moving pod" LOL. read more

How can someone not like this ride? It's like a Ferris Wheel on crack. The stationary gondolas are pretty tame, but the swinging ones are scary as heck. I could understand how it would be uncomfortable to share a compartment with strangers - I was screaming my hair off and singing the "Gummy Bear" song in hopes of staying alive/calm. However, the wait said only 10 minutes, so they were allowing individual parties to get on without any stranger interference. Yay! It's pretty scary up there, and ya, the wait kind of sucks because they have to pretty much let everyone off in an extremely slow manner. But it's fun & worth it. :) read more

On a Tuesday afternoon, it wasn't too crowded. Our wait in line was about 20 minutes. I have 2 small children so we rode on the "non-swinging" or just classic-style gondola. My children had a great time especially when we were at the top of the wheel. You can see all of Anaheim from up there! I believe we made two cycles uninterrupted and that was that. It ends up being about 10 minutes of ride time. I also like how it's a big lighting prop for the World of Color light show at night. It looked so pretty all lit up. =) Funny side story: while we were on the wheel, we also noticed that the California Screamin rollercoaster had gotten stuck in the middle and the riders were being escorted off the ride while it was on the beginning climb. You get two choices at Mickey's Fun Wheel - a swinging gondola or a stand still one. The stand still one is calm and soothing as you go around and get a good look at the whole park. It's even more awesome when the sun is setting. The swinging gondola is more for the fun. It actually swings back and forth pretty hard. The gondola can go nearly horizontal and then swings back to the other side. It would be nice if we can ride it as many times really quickly, but like nearly all Disneyland rides, the line is extra long for a pretty short ride (only one continuous full circle). However, at least you can relax or swing while you wait for each gondola to get embarked/disembarked. read more

I LOVE THIS RIDE, but nobody ever seems to want to go on it. So, my boyfriend, his kids and I go into the swinging gondola. I love rides, I can pretty much go on anything (except those simulation rides, those make me sick, go figure). At any rate, I learned real quick that my boyfriend is afraid of heights. He spent the whole ride with is eyes closed tight, he had his legs pushed up against the opposite seat and was wedged in the corder while rattling off some colorful language. When we first got in the ride he says, "where do i hold on" he then started grabbing at the cage but the weave is way too small to grip. LOL His older daughter was almost in tears when we were finished. I'm not a masochist, I was sad they were so unhappy but I love the ride. It's a litlte exciting and the views are great! I'm not sure why this thing is called "mickeys fun wheel" this thing scared the you know what outta me!!! I don't enjoy heights, but when you pay an arm and a leg to go to Disneyland, you better believe I'm going on every single attraction to get my monies worth!!! I guess it was a little fun, but as soon as that cart hauls a$$ down the track when you get the top I may have screamed bloody murder. Not to mention we were seated with three ten year old kids (I'm 28) and they thought it would be funny to get out cart rocking! Ugh! Almost had a panic attack! OMG!!! Went on to a swinging gondola forced by my hubby. Shared it with a family of three, a wife, husband and a little girl that could not be older then 3. As the gondola's swung to the top and dropped onto the next wrung, I wanted to scream out, "let me off of this freakin thing!!" But I did not want to alert the child in front of us! So, I closed my eyes and tried not to cry! I didn't think this ride would jolt down so abruptly. Once I composed myself, the views of the park were beautiful from the top, but what goes up must go down and down. We went on the second drop which swung even more than the first. I was real surprised that this ride was a Disney ride. It gives the adults something to enjoy as well and once I did it once, I am looking forward to trying to conquer it again. read more

I only give it a 3 because I'm afraid of heights and my friends made me go on here. Also, it only goes around once and sometimes they would stop the ride if someone really needed to get out so you don't really get the full effect of the ride. My friends made me ride in the cart that moved so I was kind of freaking out. They took a video of it as well ... blah. It was fun but I was scared to even look down. It wasn't an enjoyable fright. I would go on it again if this had the shortest line in the park or if my friends made me go again HAHA read more
