Ordered lunch delivery for a work session and it was delivered on time and hot. Gyro and appetizer was good. Pizzas were also good with lots of toppings. (although the crust was bit chewy). Decided to give them a try as we were heading back to Eagle River from Hatcher Pass, and needed something for dinner. Customer service on the phone and when picking up was good. They have a fairly extensive menu with a good selection of specialty pies as well as the ability to build your own. Outside of pizza they also some appetizers and things like gyros & spanakopita. This is a strictly carry out or delivery establishment. There is no room to dine inside. We ordered the 18 inch Sicilian pizza. I like that their biggest size is 18 inches. Not many pizza places do pies that big around here. The pizza itself was meh. The ingredients on the Sicilian pizza includes basil and oregano so I was expecting fresh basil on my pizza, which was not the case. The pizza sauce was not that good--it had a very sour taste like they didn't do anything to cut the acidity. The dough was very thick and pretty undercooked in my opinion. It did have a good amount of toppings which we appreciated. But, without good sauce and crust as the base there's not much you can do to save the pizza. For the price you are better off going to Great Alaskan pizza company or one of the other chain pizza places. read more

Man, we try to buy local and avoid chain restaurants. Unfortunately, once again this has kicked us in the butt. The breadsticks seem to be some type of loaf, cut into sticks. So bread flats with sesame seeds on top? Very strange combination, and quite salty. Our pizza was under cooked, almost white on the bottom side. There were no toppings on the outside 3-4 inches of the pie, so we got the medium toppings on a large I guess. The sauce has some bitter aftertaste, almost acidic. Generally, you cut the acid with heat, or a bit of sugar. Too much, and you get that sweet chain sauce. The sandwich another person at our house ordered, seemed to be good. They didn't complain. Overall, the 2 hour wait, the cost, and the quality, I wouldn't order again. What a bummer! read more

Sunday, 5 :30 pm. They delivered food in 40 minutes. The Gyro tasted rancid, and potato salad was bland. The pizza was lacking. So I called the Manager at Pizza Athena, saying that I appreciate the potato Salad was made locally instead of Costco Potato Salad, however it is very. bland. The manager said he'd give me a "Free Order Next Time". I said "No, I am hungry Now". I ate the underwhelming pizza, in the mean time. So lunch today was "Rancid Gyro with No Flavor Potato Salad. Pizza Athena is open 7 days per week. I want the manager, to taste from his kitchen "Gyro with potato Salad side", Lamb should not be rancid in nature. Ok. I'll try to make this as short as I can. I live in Anchorage and my 86 year old father in law lives in Palmer in a little tiny house that my sister in law and her husband built for him on their property. There are a few other little houses and one big house on the same property. So there's quite a bit going on with equipment and all the usual things out in the valley. Well all my father in law wanted was a pizza delivered to his "little" house that's hidden on this property. I tried for hours trying to find a place that would deliver a yummy hot fresh pizza to him and I was just about to give up when I called And Malina answered at this place and she was soo sweet and totally said no problem took my order and my cc and I ordered and paid from Anchorage and she took care of the rest. Now it was not an easy delivery because it's a hard little house to find but their delivery man was soo nice he stayed on the phone with me until he found it. A perfect hole in the wall pizza joint. Take out or delivery only but if you're impatient they'll deliver it to you while you wait in the cozy comfort of your car in the parking lot. Long delivery times, but I only assume its because they're ALWAYS busy. I wasnt a huge fan of their pizza crust, but the pizzas were okay. I loved the Gyro. The fettucini sauce seems to split, which is unfortunate because the grease completely kills the flavor. However, I did get a seafood fettucini that was GREAT. I LOVE their salads, the greek salad is huge and they give you more than enough dressing and toppings. Everything is fresh. So disappointed. Really wanted to like this local business, especially since it serves Greek food, but it was very expensive for the lack of amount of food. We spent over $60 plus tip plus $12 to deliver. We ordered antipasta salad, gyro salad, spanakopita, and a medium pepperoni olive pizza. My husband did like his antipasta salad okay. The gyro meat and tzatziki on the salad tasted pretty good, but it was anemic for the price of $14, mostly iceberg lettuce. It would help if it came with feta cheese. I added my own feta to make it taste better and have more substance to it and that helped. The spanakopita tasted good, but was tiny - 4 small triangle wedges for $11! It was a dollar or more per bite. For the price, one large piece of spanakopita made in a sheet pan with a good amount of filling, thereby less phyllo would be much better. The pizza was the only thing that absolutely tasted awful. It is the first time I have ever actually been repulsed by red sauce that I can remember. It did not have very much cheese, barely any olives, and the pepperoni was not great either. Not fresh at all, maybe we got unlucky on that day. In the end, we were still slightly hungry and at $85 that is frustrating. $72 w/tip if we'd eaten in - still a lot to not be full and we are average eaters. The food is overall okay, but for that price at a decent restaurant we would have been full. Not coming back unfortunately, mainly because we did not like the pizza and it was so expensive. I will say their Greek dishes are much better than their pizza. If they could fix their pizza there would be nothing better than pizza with Greek salad. read more
