And here it is. My first 1 star review. Where to begin? Honestly, not all was horrible. The service was fine - the people who served us were very very nice. The Jet game was on, and I was watching the TV, and we won - so yay! That's about it. Our food, was horrendous. Ok, I thought it might have just been once. Nope - I came back again because I have a couple friends who swear this place is the second coming of a really amazing Italian family style establishment. Still was not good. My linguine with white clam sauce looked like spaghetti sitting in chicken broth, with canned chopped clams poured on top. It tasted worse. Ok, so maybe the whole clam sauce thing isn't their thing. No problem. Meatballs - more specifically, spaghetti and meatballs. This is stuff that you just can't screw up. This is your bread and butter. Your meatball tasted greasier than... something really freakin' greasy, which I'm usually OK with, but it left a filmy, terrible aftertaste in my mouth. The pasta wasn't drained at all, it was sitting in a couple ounces of cloudy pasta water. I tried to save the dish by adding massive amounts of garlic powder, crushed red pepper, and grated cheese, however nothing really helped. I tried my friend's (hopefully, she's still my friend after I suggested we give this place another whirl) chicken parm. Another bread and butter dish for any Italian restaurant. The chicken itself (not the breading) was dried out, the cheese was nearly non-existent, the sauce was way too watery. Her pasta? Sitting in a pool of water as well. The salad looked like a normal iceberg lettuce with some onions. I guess this place was once good, but fell off big time. Maybe the pizza is really good? I don't know, but if you can't get that other stuff right, there's no point in me ever coming back again. read more

First time there a few days ago. Always heard a lot about this place. I had the chicken parm. and it was excellent. The tomato sauce was delicious and the salad was very fresh. The staff seemed very friendly and we got service with a smile. I recommend giving them a try. read more

Don't let the silly/dated name fool you: This is a really good family Italian restaurant - not white-tablecloth fine dIning, but generally high quality fare. Good pastas and Italian American favorites like chicken francaise, veal parm, etc. I've been coming here a few times a year for 25 years and, without a doubt, they have the best old-school gnocchi in Westchester. Not for everyone; some prefer them light & airy, and you'll have to go elsewhere for those. . If you like deliciously weighty "belly bombs," each one worth savoring, this is the place to go! The "new" owner was the chef for all those years, and he has maintained consistency while making small upgrades (tablecloths, glass instead of plastic glasses) elevating the ambience a little. Met friends there last night; food just okay-service horrible. Server refused to write two separate checks, combined them, on one atrociously written illegible paper and told us that this is the way they do it as their "forms" cost money! In either event the itemizations were wrong: she applied purchases to the wrong party. She huffily proceeded to correct this by "snatching" the check, not paying attention to what we were saying, thereby presenting a second "two-in-one" wrong check. Finally noticing that we were visibly upset, she came over, listened to us and corrected the bill (now using three precious forms).. I ordered takeout the other night. I got the Veal Scaloppini Sorrentino and baked ziti with ricotta and eggplant. The veal scaloppini was great. My wife thought that they should have used cured ham instead of the smoked ham. I had no complaints about the dish. On the other hand the baked ziti was a disappointment. It cost $17. It didn't appear to have even been baked. There was very little cheese on it. Instead of the ricotta being mixed in, they had just spooned a couple spoonfuls on top of the ziti. I ended up adding a bunch of cheese to it & baking it myself at home. read more

Let me start by saying that Pizza Beat is not fancy, its a casual Italian restaurant. It's not expensive.. if you're looking for something fancy there are better places to go. I have been coming here for years so I know exactly what to order and what to stay away from. The decor in this place is plain but not old. It is very casual and meant for families. My biggest pet peeve with Pizza Beat is that they cook your food to fast. When my boyfriend and I go we need to tell them every single time to wait until we are done eating our appetizers before they cook our entrees. They always listen so I would recommend doing that or you will feel rushed with your food. The mussels and calamari are extremely tasty. I recommend trying them. The staff is on and off with their attitude. The manager isn't as friendly as he could be. I saw a lot of people posting that and I agree. Some servers are nicer than others. For the entrees the raviolis, chicken parm and pasta dishes are good. Stay away from their shrimp dishes. Not always cooked well. Definitely has its ups and downs but i personally go because I have learned what I like from there and what I don't. They have big food portions.. the dessert's aren't so good though. read more

Had to come back, after all this was once a star restaurant back in my childhood days (I won't even go into just how many years ago that was, but I loved this place). Just hosted my sisters baby shower here yesterday. We absolutely love Pizza Beat. The hostess Anna is so amazing and she goes above and beyond for customers. She was so helpful when It came to planning my sisters baby shower. The owner/chef Came out several times to make sure that me and my guest were happy with everything. Consistantly good Italian food for the 40 plus years my family has been going here. I have had most things on the menu and can honestly say I have never been disappointed. UPDATE: BEWARE!!!!! Potential Thievery! I just got off the phone with the company who sold the coupon to me. They stated that Pizza Beat was still a member according to their records and that my coupon was redeemed by them last night. As you will see below from my initial review, they did NOT honor or accept the coupon, yet when the waiter took it from us to verify it with the owner, they apparently entered the coupon and set it to being used. How did they use it IF Pizza Beat no longer worked with that vendor and declined the coupon to me? Luckily, the vendor refunded my purchase price for the coupon, so thanks to them, but Pizza Beat appears to have done some shady business last night. Please beware when going there, especially if you have some sort of coupon for Pizza Beat. If they deny you after taking your coupon, contact the vendor where you got/purchased the coupon immediately, to make sure they didn't activate the coupon and then decline to accept it from you. END OF UPDATE--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Been going here since I was a child with my parents and grandparents. My grandfather passed away in the early 1980s, so it's been a preferred location for me and my family for over 40 years. Yes, ownership has changed a few times, but still the place and the food remained the same which was excellent service and quality for a great price. Tonight a friend & I went back again and this time, we were very disappointed. The reasons are twofold... 1. I purchased a discount coupon online that had an expiration date of December 21st, 2021. I purchased the coupon recently and we decided tonight we would go there for dinner. So we sat down ready to order appetizers and full meals. I showed the coupon to the waiter at which point he said he had to check on the coupon. The waiter came back and said that the owner stated that the restaurant no longer worked with that vendor and thus would not accept the coupon. Ok, but I still purchased the coupon and it says it was valid until December 21st, 2021. The restaurant should have honored the coupon. Because they didn't my friend and I were going to walk out, but our drinks already arrived. We ended up ordering a calzone each and aborted our initial plan on getting appetizers, full meals, followed by dessert as we usually do. This usually comes to a $70 or more bill for us. Instead our bill total was $17. Great work Pizza Beat! At a time when restaurants are hurting, you just cost yourself not only a $70 or $80 purchase, but also lost a lifelong customer who frequented the establishment since he was less than 10 years old. I'm now 49 BTW. 2. As if the night couldn't get worse, the waiter was completely missing during the entire meal. My friend & I were waiting for the waiter to at least check up on us and see if we needed anything. He never did! We were the only people there minus one other couple. It's not like the place was booming and busy. Our drinks were empty and never were we approached by our waiter or the staff to see if we wanted refills, which we did. Finally, we couldn't even find our waiter to request the check! My friend ended up having to stand up, wave and call out to get someone's attention so that we could get our bill, pay it and get out of there! In closing... I'm very disappointed and as a sentimental person, truly saddened to know that a place that I've been going to for most of my life, will never see me or my patronage again! Great job Pizza Beat, looks like you want to BEAT yourselves out of business. Now that I think of it, perhaps that is why it was so empty. It was never like that before, even during these dark times with COVID the place was always busy, but not tonight! Perhaps the new ownership isn't up to par with past ownership and the restaurant has lost its place as one of Yonkers' great restaurants. It's a real shame. I'll miss the good old days, but at least I still have my memories of days long ago with family and friends and the great times we had at a restaurant that no longer seems to exist, even if the name and the menu hasn't changed much in that time. I can't say enough good things about this place. I have been coming here for over 30 years and the food and service remains the same. Every dish is always consistent. Miguel the chef for over 40 years just recently took this over, such a nice man and his son and daughter work there with him, such a lovely family. Everything here is homemade, no frozen anything, from fried zucchini sticks, shrimp, veal, chicken etc. My husband has tried Shrimp Fra Diavolo in every Italian restaurant we have ever went to and he always says "nothing beats Pizza Beat"! The prices are great and the portions are big. The service is on spot, although all the servers are wonderful, we always ask for Roberto, he is very attentive and makes every visit feel like home. Just left this place a few minutes ago....very disappointed as the food was really good. We ordered the chicken parmigiana family style which easily feeds 3-4 for only $37 so I must say its a good buy. However, as I was enjoying my food i found a hair in my pasta. This totally killed our appetites and ruinedd the mood. Apparently this isnt the first time as afterwards i came here to search for hair in the reviews and there are a couple more. Everything abut it was really good. Great service, good portions we had Fried Calamari, Tortellini in Brodo and Pasta with shrimp sauce. Excellent on all items and the Tortufo was great too. What can I say. Just horrible, horrible, and did I fail to mention, horrible. This review is from months and months ago. Went there for week 1. Had a discount coupon and used it for a family meal. Meal was decent. Had linguine and clam sauce. Clams tasted like they came from a can. Pasta was cooked properly. Went back a week later and had another family meal. It was decent. Went for a third time. It was good, but not great. So why only 1 star you might ask? Well, on our 4th trip here we had planned to order the family meal. The family meal comes with a choice of coffee or tea. Yet, even though it's advertised as a "family style" meal they do not offer soda for either children or adults or don't drink one of the hot beverage choices. By the way, the menu price for soda is the same as for coffee or tea, $2 for a cup. During prior visits the waiter easily substituted soda for coffee/tea even though the menu says no substitutions. This time the waiter refused. We asked to speak to the owner. The owner came over and before we could discuss anything he yelled at us, "get out of here you cheap bastards." He followed this up by repeating this once, even louder. What was our crime. Asking for a soda substitution? Well, given soda and coffee/tea is the same price this should not be a big deal. In fact they advertise it as "family style." So I guess the owner wants coffee to be served to children. We realized what our crime was, we had used the discount coupon a few weeks earlier and he was most likely pissed about it. But, the website that sold the discount coupon indicated that one can purchase up to 5 to be used at this location. I think its time for this owner to sell the restaurant to a someone who is customer friendly and who will remodel this establishment to bring it into the 21st century. By the way, if you do go to this restaurant and use the bathroom I recommend you don't look up at the ceiling and view the light fixture. read more

You get what you pay for. Cheap "Italian" food served to cheap people. Im straight guinea so I know what real Italian cuisine is supposed to be like and I still come to Pizza Beat. I took a party of seven here for a prefix meal that I had prepared with the owner Doriana the food was great we had the chicken Parmesan and the sauce was really good quality and we also had the chicken Francese and I really loved the sauce and we also had pasta that was perfectly aldente. Awful! Just Awful! The place was almost completely empty and I know why! It was outdated and felt dirty. And the absolute most awful part was when I was waiting for my dinner to come out, a mouse came strolling around the dinning room headed right at me! Only gave one star because you can't give zero so we came here on recommendation and we are so disappointed the food is flavor less I should have know when I asked if the mozzarella sticks where premade and told yes and sauce taste like hot tomatoes with no seasoning the garlic bread was hot with no flavor and my wife's dish tasted like dish soap on one side we stoped eating told them they insinuated that we where lying they did cut her meal down to half price The salad if you could call it that was just lettuce with two pieces of cucumber that wasn't even cool like as if to say it hadn't been refrigerated and the bread when I finally did come to the table was burnt and almost Stale like I had ordered a calzone pepperoni and I had never met one until today but I didn't like. It just seemed so sad, very friendly service, pretty good food, less than zero decor and atmosphere! Fettucine carbonara was the bare minimum, pasta cream and bacon. Not even a sprig of parsley of basil for color?! My GF had a slice of sicilian, feh! she also had a $10 artichoke! really? 10 bucks? the stuffing was ok, artichoke was well cooked but nothing memorable. I've been coming to this restaurant since the '80s. The staff is always polite and the owners are always nice. I stopped by recently after work and ordered ziti in shrimp sauce to go. The owner couldn't have been nicer. He made sure that I not only got what I ordered, but he gave me half a loaf of Italian bread AND extra sauce in case I felt that the ziti needed it when I got home. I called to order penne vodka. They had two sizes. I asked how big the larger dinner was. Guy on phone said "bigger then lunch size". I inquired if it was in a 9" tray typical of most restaurants but he wouldnt give me an answer. I figured for $16 it would be alot of food. I get there food is on desk where you pay. I lift it up and ask if everythings in bag and older guys gets nasty with me, like how dare i question him. Women comes over feels bag says it does feel light and opens it up and its all there she says. Get back to my job open it up and its a 9" tray with just enough penne to cover the bottom of tray and some sauce covering center section of penne. Add that the Penne was either overcooked or reheated and sauce had no flavor. Bad attitudes, bad food. Was hoping for good food since i work right across the street.... read more

This place is my favorite Italian Restaurant on Central Avenue in Yonkers. The service is decent depending on which waiter or waitress you get. I've had very good service there and some of the worst service at the same restaurant. But the food is always good. My suggestion is - go during the week when they are less crowded and maybe the service will be better. read more

This resturant has amazing food. The atmosphere is elegant and cozy. It feels like a restaurant in the city. They recently got a new owner who is absolutely inspirational. I have been to this place for many, many years and the food is usually good but what happened today is unacceptable and unforgivable. After being seated for about 10 minutes without anybody coming to our table, we asked a server who was helping a table that sat after us "are we going to be helped?", she literally told me "sir relax, you were just sat".
