We ate at Flambee last night during restaurant week and were amazed by the food, the service and the atmosphere. We started with the best French onion soup on the planet! The stars of the dish were the bone broth stock and the tartine bread covered in perfectly shredded and melted/broiled Swiss cheese. The next course was an almost magnificent creole boulllibase chocked with shrimp, crawfish tails and a chunk of in-the-shell crab. The broth was so good it makes me shiver just thinking about it. And...the dense tartine (sourdough) bread ends and herbed, compound butter was perfect for sopping up every last drop of the broth. Wow! We ordered both desserts...a pot au creme of coffee flavored jiggly delight and a molten lava wedge of sheer decadence. What a great finish to a crazy-good meal. There are good wines by the glass or bottle and a full bar. The service was as good as the food. We were so happy to get this meal for a mere $25 each. It was worth twice that much! Best thin crust pizza we have found in BR. Lots of choices. We like the ones with fresh vegetables - with maybe a sprinkling of meat like bacon. They don't serve anchovies, unfortunately. I ordered a large margherita take-out pizza and it wasn't anything to write home about. The crust was comparable to that of a papa johns or domino's. The cheese was authentic, but I was expecting a bistro Byronz quality and it did not deliver. Still good pizza though. read more

Good pizza, bad service. We ordered the Butcher, bud Light & water. My husband also ordered a Caesar salad. The waiter brings the salad out on 2 plates, which we didn't ask for. I told the waiter there was something black in my water. He took the water to replace it. While doing so, I could see him speaking with the lady behind the bar. She turns around and looks towards our table with an attitude. I was already agitated because the water came out with a straw already in it. There was a couple in the restaurant who had straws in the wrapper. I started to wonder why in the hell would he touch my straw with is bare hands. I did not touch that water. The waiter brings the pizza out and we are eating it off the TRAY!!!!! He did not bring us plates for some reason. Meanwhile, we watch the other waiter bring plates to the same couple. I had a dinner here with some ladies to discuss a volunteer event, and it was lovely. Our server, Courtney, was delightful and very attentive. The food was great, and I enjoyed our tarte flambée selections more than the ones we had on the previous visit. Courtney suggested the Biquette, which was wonderful--traditional bacon, onion, creme fraiche + goat cheese and honey. We also had the margherita-esque one, but I can't recall the name of it. We split the s'mores dessert, but it wasn't my favorite--full-disclosure, I am not a huge fan of chocolate syrup--but the rest of the group seemed to love it. Went out for early dinner with friends one afternoon, and was not disappointed. Don't assume to know what it will be like; setting expectations is perhaps the wrong thing to do because I did truly find it different than any other place I've tried. Having spent some time in France I was pleased with their menu selection. I would describe Flambee as light French flair with a Louisiana twist in a bright and airy setting. Their champignon tarte flambee is my favorite. Their house salad is light and the dressing is delicious. I've also had the meatballs, and the ratatouille and was pleased. I was not a huge fan of the coq au vin however, the batter they use is not my favorite, but other people at the table liked it. For drinks I recommend their frozen lillet which is light and refreshing cocktail when it's hot outside. They also have a small yet satisfying draft beer selection at the bar. Do not miss the chocolate cake. Again, it is not your typical heavy, goopy, overly sugary chocolate cake people are used to. Their apple tarte flambee is my second favorite. Unfortunately I do have to side with some of the other reviews, and give a four star review instead of five due to service because I've also had waitresses take a really long time to bring out our menus, bring out our water, or disappear for a while and forget to check on our table. To be very fair, the first time we went our waiter was outstanding, very attentive and gave us great food and drink recommendations. I will get his name next time we go back because, yes, I will definitely keep going back for the food, the ambience, and the frozen lillet P.S. Like the reviewer below me, I also had high hopes for Flambée. However, they did not deliver on our first visit. I have had authentic tarte flambée in France and was very much looking forward to being able to enjoy them here at home, but our tartes were missing the crème fraîche aspect. Maybe there was a little but it wasn't visible nor could any of us taste it, so I was disappointed in that aspect of our visit. We went for my birthday dinner and were a group of 6 ladies total. (Had I been with a smaller group, I would've sent the tartes back but we were all talking and enjoying ourselves so we ate them anyway.) Other than the lack of crème fraîche, we enjoyed the toppings of most of the tartes ordered which included the biquette, the brie, the champignon, and the honey poulette. My sister's meatball bourguignon pot-au-feu was delicious! My friend's pig à Paris was just okay since it was essentially big croutons with nice ham on top with a little bit of butter (they could work on this sandwich, it wasn't prepared in the traditional french way as the menu boasted.) Some positives include excellent service, good cocktails and wine--that français 75 was perfect, but steer clear of their take on a gimlet unless you just love celery. DO make reservations on the weekend or you may end up outside like we were. The covered patio however, ended up being nice since there was a light rain that evening which helped keep us slightly cool even in the middle of summer. The atmosphere and decor is perfect for the space and ties into the Bistro Byronz interior without being too similar. I definitely want to give this place another try, especially after reading other reviews and seeing photos of tartes WITH crème fraîches. Hopefully I can reassess my 3 out of 5 star review after another visit! read more
