Very disappointed that the quality has slipped. We've been ordering pizzas for delivery for a number of years, but lately we've experienced long delivery times (over the quoted time) and poor quality when finally delivered. Tonight's pizza had burnt crust, was delivered 30 min late and was delivered barely warm. Note to management...if you can't deliver a hot quality pizza, do not advertise delivery! read more

I have to admit, I was really really disappointed with the remodel of the place. I don't know if it's cause the new neighbors or it was pizza express's choice, but I miss the old rustic style. Really good pizza and a great salad bar. The bacon Express specialty pizza was very good with a nice crust (crunchy bottom and soft top). The salad bar was great. Papa Murphy's is good but every so often I want a real, baked pizza. Pizza Express in Auburn is delicious food at good prices. Their salad bar has everything I want and their tomato-basil dressing is excellent. I need to mention their hot sandwiches. I've tried the polish dog and the 3 -meat combo...both were outstanding! The last time I visited I bought their cheeseburger. Let me tell you, this pizza place has the best cheeseburger in Auburn since Grumpy's closed! 2/3 lb of fresh meat on a buttered roll..it's excellent! I absolutely love this place. Tonight I went in to order a pepperoni pizza with a quarter of it olives. They were super busy but really hustling! the lady up front came to bring me my pizza (because it was to go)and she apologized that there was charcoal on it. when I looked there was barely any but she told me she was very sorry and that she was already making me a new one! On our way back from Reno we were looking for coffee but found ourself a tad hungry. We saw Pizza Express and decides to give it a try. We order the supreme pizza and it was amazing. I used to recommend them to many people as I am in the hospitality industry in N. auburn. The past couple times I've ordered the quality is still pretty good but the quantity is extremely lacking. I used to be involved with a gourmet pizza restaurant (6 years ago), we served slicer pies at $1.25 per slice, the pizza we ordered tonite was like one of our old slicer pizzas (skimping on ingredients) we paid $28 for a 3 topping pie which was exactly like our slicer pies used to be which sold for $10 at $1.25 / slice . i cannot believe that we were kicked out today after being there an hour and a half...and NO ONE else was even there needing a table ! We were paying customers for a business meeting. Owner came up and said we need to leave because we were violating Placer County rules about homelessness hanging around. but she could not name the homeless ordinance! What gives? The pizza is at best OK. They made us a pizza with raw dough, and then argued and told us it wasn't raw dough it was cheese. Cross contamination! NO GLOVES! NO HAND WASHING! First review of anything... ever... But I just have to let people know. So grossed out. Came in to pick up my order and the place is obviously busy, it's 6 pm on a cold Saturday night so I get it but seriously... Ok so the people making food A. Aren't wearing gloves and B. The girl went straight from making pizzas to taking my cash and back to making pizzas without ever washing her hands C. Then she answered the phone WHAT... THE... I can't eat this. Who knows how many employees have gone and wiped their butts then touched the cash register. It's pretty simple pizza express employees and management!!! I used to purchase pizzas here until 2007. The owner I know as Jeff one day confronted me as I was getting ready to order and said, "What are you trying to do Cameron, work me." I was in process of ordering and I said, "No," and I left with the order hanging and went to Round Table. Hands down the best pizza in the Auburn area. Any review questioning the quality of the pizzas are very fishy to me. The owners/employees may have some issues, I can't speak of that because I've never had a problem, but one thing I do know is THEY KNOW HOW TO MAKE A GREAT PIZZA! I have had pizza from every pizza joint in the Auburn area and this one tops the list at #1 (I also like Pizziola in Colfax but that's a different experience all together), Followed by Old Town Pizza #2, Pizza Factory Colfax #3, Then you can insert any of the pizza chain restaurants for #4 on. UPDATE: Well I finally had to deal with an issue on a mistake with an order after enjoying them since 1993. Friday night at dinner time I call to place a delivery order. I'm reading my order off of a hand written paper, it's very hectic in the background and delivery time is an hour. I order 2 pizzas, very clear. One pizza I ordered is Pesto Chicken. The delivery comes, we get ready to eat and we notice that one has white sauce (not pesto). I called up to inform them that there was a mistake with a pizza. The manager says that I ordered the garlic chicken (must be because that's what the receipt says and no way he could have rung it up wrong ~ sarc). If I hadn't had read my order to him off a hand written piece of paper I might think that it's reasonable I made that mistake. However, considering I read the order directly as written I am absolutely certain that I ordered pesto. So in a round about way he's calling me a liar. Ok, no problem... What's the solution? They offer a 20% discount on a future order. They have coupons for more than that all the time so their basically saying that they will do nothing. I tell them that I would like the pizza I ordered so I'll drive down and exchange for the proper pizza. I get there and let them know that this could have been handled better, and since I paid extra for the convenience of delivery I'd like my delivery fee & tip refunded. They refund the $7 and tell me not to come back. No problem. Old Town pizza is a VERY close 2nd. The one mistake I had with Old Town was handled professionally. Pizza Express' lack of customer service does not make up for their wonderful product. I'm also the commissioner of an organization in town. We've been ordering Pizza Express for years for my 12 man team. I have no problem patronizing a quality competitor. Their loss. Although I will miss their succulent pies, my loss is minimal. read more
