This was amazing pizza! Love the atmosphere, right beside the pier. We were craving pizza and they didn't disappoint.

Not terrible, but when pizza arrived solid cold, both pizzas. We also ordered a cheese dip which was supposed to be Pimento Cheese. It was still shredded, like cheddar and not warm at all. The bacon looked raw on top. From previous reviews, I thought this was a good choice - hoping it was just a bad night. Everyone can have one. Cost of two Pizzas and the dip was over $50 - so it's a tough choice to try again. read more

If ur are staying in the Surfside/Garden City, SC area, one of the new options for food & fun is Pizza Hyena. There is a great bar which fun blender cocktails and while it's not quite ocean front, it's still feels "beachy". The bar is both inside and an outside bar and it a good time for Happy Hour. The menu consists of various creatively named and topped wood fired pizzas. We had the "A Real Brie Slapper" which was topped with brie cheese, beautifully caramelized onions, shivered almonds, apples, and hot honey. I rarely order non-traditiinal pizzas but I have to say...this combination hit the spot. We also had the "Hyena Balls", which were sooo delicious. These were Italian meatballs with THE BEST sauce outside of South Philly tHt is served with baked garlic bread. Sooooo good. Everything is served in tin baking dishes which give it the informal vibe needed for when the cocktails kick in. There is also a great selection of salads and appertizers on the menu. Great little place for a good beach happy hour. The only thing better would be to move this place 300 yards backwards to make it ocean front! read more

This spot was right outside our hotel, it was too late to venture into SurfSide to find something to eat, so I went in, I told the hostess I wanted something to go, she suggested that I order from the bar, I pull up to the bar, there were some locals at bar chopping it up with the bartenders, one of the Patrons ordered a round of shots of clear liquor, bartenders included lol I thought I was on an episode of Bar Rescue (lol) after the bartenders finished their shots, gave me a menu I ordered the BBQ Chicken personal pizza, big enough for me and my wife to share back in our room! Not bad, plenty of chicken on the slices and onions cooked well enough into the pizza to taste but not overwhelming with onion flavor.. read more

Pizza sounded good and we were lucky to have this place right next to the hotel we were staying at. They seated us right away but they do get packed so call ahead to find out wait time or be ready to wait. We had the pepperoni pizza, tomato bruschetta and some barbecue wings. Pizza had black flakes on bottom of crust from the oven which was rather gross, leaving a burnt taste and took away from the actual flavor of the pizza. The Ham & Cheezy Sandwich was very tasteful. My favorite was the Bruschetta. Our daughter had the Real Brie Slapper ordered without the Hot Honey Drizzle but came with it anyway. The server had to have it remade, things happen so we understood. But when they're crazy busy the extra wait was annoying. Everyone was finished until she received her food. We've been here before it's definitely a hit or miss, never consistent. I ordered the Kale Yeah pizza and it was loaded with kalamata olives and the kale pesto was great! My brother's pizza with escargot was a little skimpy with toppings. The service at the pizza hyena was terrible and the food was not very good. Our server barely noticed us and took long breaks between checking on us. We were about to leave when he finally showed up to take our order. We sat outside for our meal which was a mistake. There was a large trash can near the entrance to the restaurant and the outdoor seating which was swarming with flies. When our food finally arrived, the flies turned their focus to our table. It was a constant battle swatting flies away from the food. This may have just been an off day for this restaurant bit if it's this way all the time, it's not worth the price. read more

We were vacationing in Surfside (along with half the state I think ) and we're craving pizza for dinner. We decided to give Pizza Hyena a shot after seeing the reviews. I'm glad we did. Probably one of the better pizzas I've had and definitely the first to use FRESH mozzarella cheese. The pepperonis were small and plentiful with a little kick to them. All sizes are the personal pan that is divided into six slices. Hubs finished almost all of his and I ate two slices (saving room for ice cream - conveniently located in the same parking lot). It was our understanding that this restaurant is very new having been open less than a month I think. Congratulations to them as I think they'll be a success. Wait staff was very friendly and helpful. Suggest getting there around 5 during the summer months if you're looking for a minimum wait. Highly recommended!!!!! read more

Wow! Great location, with a massive selection of beautifully crafted artisanal pizzas. We had the Clucked Up, Hot Chick, A Real Brie Slapper, and Ricotta Be Kidding Me. All were to die for! They're a little small, but priced pretty fairly. I'd say to expect to eat almost a whole pizza each. The bruschetta was TO DIE FOR, I'll be getting this every time. read more

Came here with my family and ordered three different pizzas for the three of us: Peppy Longstocking was bland and the only flavor came from the pepperoni cups. When You Can't Decide was bland, sausage was pretty flavorless. The Ms. Cheezious was overpoweringly cheddary and cheap-tasting. The main issue we all agreed on with all three pizzas: The bottom layer of pizza aside from the crust were so thin and droops like wet wallpaper from all the grease soaked up from cheese and toppings. And the dough was just flavorless...about as good as a soup cracker. A real shame; two years ago I gave the restaurant four stars, and this visit was our first restaurant dining in after lockdown and being vaccinated. Two stars because I still love the ambience, comfort, and service of the restaurant - the interior looks fantastic. And it's still edible pizza that looks pretty when it comes out. But work needs to be done...no plans on coming back for now. read more

The food was very good! Spilt a pizza and ordered individual side salads. It was a gorgeous day to sit outside and our waitress was very nice except she did forget to put our pizza order in. She apologized and we were ok with it because we were busy catching up socially. If we were on a time restraint it would have been a problem. This is a hard review, first let me say the food is always excellent and fresh and delicious. I am also a local and enjoyed coming here and bringing our guests that come here to visit. The service Staff is always pleasant and attentive. Britney was our server tonight and I can't say enough good things about her, she's the greatest. Now for the bad part. Seems that take out orders take precedence over those who come to the restaurant in person. Management would rather have you wait and wait and wait not caring how long you wait at your table, while they keep taking take out orders and sending them out before table orders. We were a party of 4, we ordered 2 appetizers and 4 pizzas, 2 hr later we got our order. Management take care of those who come to your establishment first and take care of takeout orders when things slow down. read more

This was the very first week open. Service was amazing. Food need tweaks. All pizza bread is way too burnt and crispy for my taste. Even "halo" bread in my arugula salad would have been better softer and more buttery/fluffy. BTW..the arugula salad was PLAIN. I asked for tomatoes and didn't get them. The server did her best. There's a disconnect between server and kitchen/bar. Bar took FOREVER for one glass of wine. Putting server in tough position. We are locals and will be back. Just s few kinks but great vibe. Everyone working hard to make it right. editted to add....I'd love to see more Belgian Style ales, dubbel and tripel added to the menu. IPAs are always plentiful. The whole staff was really nice and the menu was clever and several choices to choose from. The overall ambiance was cool it had a good charm to it. The food however didn't have a lot of flavor. Almost flavorless. The pizza looked like it would have a lot of flavor but it was a let down. You couldn't taste a lot just that it had little burnt flavor to it. First time trying this Pizza place. We are in search of a new Pizza place. It didn't get a 5 star due to 2 different issues. We ordered Wings and a Pizza - the flavor was delicious on both and wouldn't change a thing there. First disappointment was of 10 wings only 2 were drumsticks. Not exactly a fair ratio. (not even close) so that was the "disappointment" there, altho as I said great flavor. 2 On the pizza - condiments were just tossed on the pizza randomly so lack of even distribution on such a small (10') pizza is unacceptable and the sausage pieces are way to thick. . Again, the flavor of the sauce and crust were delicious. So, our search must continue. read more
