This place gets 5 from me purely based on 80s/90s nostalgia. They have retained the original decor and are still rocking the old phone your order in style. I remember fighting with my brother on who would get to call. Love the thin crust, tiny pepperoni and unique tomato sauce. Also, best breadsticks! We are Muncie natives, so we know our Pizza King. We have gone to this location twice. The first time we ordered our breadsticks 3/4 baked and with extra dill butter. They came out dark brown and hard as a rock. The pizza was also burnt. We asked them to remake them both and it came out good the next time. The waitress was really nice. Today we ordered and picked up. We had to wait for someone to come and ring us out even though someone was standing at the counter. He said he was "off the clock" and was yelling for someone else to come and ring us out. Again, we ordered 3/4 baked breadsticks with extra dill. We received burnt, dry, hard breadsticks with almost zero dill/butter on them and no dill butter on the side. Once again, the pizza was over cooked but also lacking in everything. Toppings, sauce, etc. it was dry and crunchy. Just frustrating. read more

Poorly run. Ordered on the phone and was told my order would be ready in 25 minutes. Line was out the door. Eventually paid. Waited 30 minutes. The lost my order. The cashier was nice and it was totally not his fault. Over a dozen staff and I was not the only one waiting. Other than the cashier offering me a drink while I wait, they did nothing to remedy or make it right. I would give ZERO stars if I could. We've been ordering from them for years. We live in Irvington and have passed this place dozens of times over the years. Today we decided to have an early dinner and try their pizza and now I wish we had decided to eat here years ago. The pepperoni pizza was great, as well as the garlic cheese bread. The staff and owner were very attentive and friendly. We also enjoyed the coziness and layout of the place and myriad of overhead tiffiny lights. We plan on returning the next time we feel like having pizza for dinner. read more

I placed a carry out order while sitting in the parking lot. I got bored so I decided to go in, knowing I was way too early. The young woman came up and I said I was early. She brought up my order on the screen and then went to check on the progress. She said about 10 minutes, so I sat in a close booth and browsed the menu. They have daily specials that seemed inexpensive. The order came up and I left. They put the pizza on a cardboard and put it in a big bag. I was able to take a peek and confirm it was the correct pizza, based on other reviews where ppl didn't get the right pizza. Of course, with such easy access I had to try a piece. Incredible and it took me right back to 1983. The sauce seemed to be more sour than back then. But the crust was perfectly crisp and the toppings were plentiful, as you can see in my pic. I grew up in a part of indiana not terribly far from Muncie, and our pizza king is one of the most sacred restaurants in town(Rushville, IN.) it's been locally owned for I'd guess close to 50 years. They have all the "feast" pizza varieties, plus a couple other specialty options, like "the Cowboy," which is double sausage, double pepperoni, double mushroom and extra cheese. It's a nearly 2-inch tall spectacle of a pizza! I will go there to see if their sauce is as sour as this location. read more

It is old school, late 1980s-1990s nostalgia-type pizza place inside. You wouldn't think it would be much, but my family loves this place. We have always had great service and the pizza and breadsticks taste great. My daughter and I have eaten their chef salad as well and it was great considering it is a pizza place. The kids love it because we can order on the telephone. The grownups can have a beer while they eat, so that is nice too. I placed a pick up order around 9:30, they said it would be ready in 30 minutes. I got there around 10:05. There was a sign in the door stating masks were optional (I didn't realize the mandate was lifted.) No employees wore masks. The condition of the restaurant was poor, food all over the floor and counters. Everyone did have on gloves, but they used them like their hands (ie touching food and money alike.) The staff was nice. The food was okay, but needed to be warmed. I was surprised at the 5 spaghetti noodles I was given for bread sticks. Called in at 4:30 for a 6pm pickup...got there at 6 and they were just putting the pizzas in the oven...asked for the GM, overheard the waitress telling the GM and she asked where I was, never came to find me. When my name was called when the food was done I was standing there looking at her and she didn't turn around. She called my name again and finally looked up. Asked if she was the GM and she said yes. I asked if she was going to talk to me about my concerns and her response was I came to find you and couldn't. Went to pizza king on 6/20/23 (Washington St.) excited about eating here as I had done so many years ago (moved out of state 12 years ago) and wanted some good ole pizza king! To say they least, I was very very disappointed. I was served a cold/not hot pizza,! There is simply no excuse for cold pizza when the pizza supposedly came straight from the oven! No discount given but they surely asked for a tip when it came time to pay the bill!!!! I wish I could rate this location less tan 1 star, but it is not an option. I will not be going back to this location and definitely won't be recommending it to any others. I've enjoyed Pizza Kings royal feast since my youth and it had been the only pizza I ate when I'd come back to the Midwest. But prior to Pizza King creating the pizza on a plate, I just stopped eating and enjoying pizza. Then I learned about the pizza on a plate and I've been partaking in the joys of the royal feast since! I really enjoy how the flavors meld together and how its a fulfilling meal. I have loved Pizza King since I was in High School. Today we arrived about 6:30, ordered on the phone at the table. We waited forever just to get a pitcher of water. There were 3 of us. We were given 2 glasses. We wanted two orders of breadsticks for appetizers and a pizza (12" thin crust, sausage, pepperoni, onions, green pepper and extra cheese) for later. Forty minutes later we received breadsticks and pizza together. The breadsticks were awesome but the pizza was cold and instead of extra cheese there was barely any. The manager apologized and said they were having a rough night. For our trouble she only gave us a $3.00 discount. Half of our pizza was inedible. She asked if I wanted a box! These pizzas are amazing! Especially their pepperoni pizza with ground up pieces of pepperoni that they are definitely not stingy with! The amount of meat on there could end up leaving you with a bit more grease than one might expect, but the taste will leave you looking forward to a warm or cold piece the next day and it's just as good! Great pizza! This was my first Pizza King experience outside of Avon, IN. It was quite different. The restaurant was nice and clean on the inside, but nothing special. It lacked the kid friendliness that I'm used to with the tv's and special train that brings the rinks. Though it lacked the "fun stuff," it didn't lack at all on courteous service. It was simply outstanding. Anyways, back to the pizza. It was superbly put together. The crust is thin but not cracker-thin, and the toppings are really tasty and fresh. My roommate and I only had the pizzas because the menu seems to lack a bit of finesse, when it comes to other side items. I had no idea there was a Pizza King over here, and I'm pretty excited that it's a good one! It's kind of out in the country, in Cumberland, but it's convenient for us east-siders. The interior is wood booth seating, with Tiffany style lamps above each table and and lots of live plants and trees. You place your order on the Ding-a-Ling (red phone on each table) using your table #, and a server brings out your drinks and food. Our cheese bread arrived kinda lukewarm, but the pizza itself was great. I love that they put the toppings edge to edge on that wonderful thin crust. Pizza King uses crumbly sausage and thin frizzled ham rather than the bizarre "sausage balls" and "ham squares" that many large chains use. The jukebox selection is AWFUL, unless you're a fan of bad early 90s country music. I put my dollar in before I looked at the tunes available and actually had a hard time picking 4 songs to play. read more
