I still love Pizza Luce. The Mock Duck veggie pizza was amazing and the Mashed Potato was interesting (probably 5 for the duck, 4 for the potato). Our last stop at PL was met with a restaurant crowded with high school kids in formals, so we got take out. The staff was really kind to us and helped us to make up a bottle for our 1 year old as well as making sure our order came to us quickly. I liked this place a lot. And to think we weren't even going to choose this place. We had planned to go to a sandwich place 8 miles north of Duluth, only later did we find out it was 15 miles (8 miles from fork in road, literally). We gave up around 12 miles since the driving conditions weren't good and headed back to the main street and chose Pizza Luce. I loved that there were many options for vegetarians. I chose The Rustler (mock duck, pineapple, banana peppers, red onion, cheddar, mozzarella, BBQ sauce). It sounds strange, but its about the best pizza I've tried. I couldn't get enough of it. I won't give 5 stars because I only sampled one item from its extensive menu. If I'm up in Minnesota again, I'll definitely try Pizza Luce again. Just wish it would come to Chicago. read more

We went here for supper tonight. Happy hour and Tap Tuesday is a sweet deal. Huge selection of very good beer. I had the Fiery Dragon pizza. Super good, not really hot, but lots of flavor. My buddies got a couple sammiches; they were pretty happy. The server was nice, smart. Answered our questions. She was a bit quiet, but good. Pretty inexpensive for a very good meal. I wasnt as big of a fan as everyone else in my group was. According to my Boyfriend it was the Best Biscuits and Gravy he's ever had. (and i make it from scratch at our house) He cleaned his plate! they do have a Veg sausage and gravy but i didnt try it this time. I had some southwestern scramble and it really wanst very good, it tasted funny, not bad but not good either. it came out too - scrambled? and looked like a hot-mess. I would order a breakfast burrito if your in the mood for southwestern! The coffee was so-so, a little bitter. The service was good for how packed it was, though it got really loud because everyone waiting for a table is right out in the open bringing in the cold air. I tried delivery from Luce for the first time yesterday. I got the veggie "meatball" hoagie delivered. From hitting the "order" button on their website to receiving the hoagie took 50 minutes. On the website, it showed the hoagie as being "out for delivery" at least 20 minutes before it got to my door. Which was probably why it was just warm and kind of soggy. I had a bite of my husband's veggie meatball hoagie in the restaurant a few months ago, and it was way better. So....they need to work on their delivery speed or packaging or something. I was very excited to try Pizza Luce! I'm the type of person that will look at the menu and reviews before going into a restaurant. In this case, I saw many Baked Potato Pizza. People claiming it's a must have. I love the atmosphere of this place! I came on a Monday during lunch so it was not very busy. My waiter gets a 10/10 job, attentive, talkative, helpful. A TIP, you can order a half of a pizza on one side, and a different type of pizza on the other side. Therefore I ordered the baked potato pizza and the wrangler. Baked potato was interesting, the pizza sauce is just mashed potato with some toppings. The Wrangler is just BBQ chicken pizza. I did not like the wrangler, it was just overpowered with BBQ sauce and it just ruins the whole pizza. Unfortunately it was thrown away, no one wanted to eat it.. With that, we also ordered the Spicy Buffalo Wings, tasted like normal wings. The Mozerella Bread, just sliced bread with cheese, nothing special. And lastly the Mac and Cheese, do not come here to order that. Not worth it. Price wise, it was a spendy meal. Almost $25 for a large pizza. Not worth the trip, but will come back if someone decides they wanted to come here. read more

Quite possibly the best crust I have ever had! Whole-grain flour with olive made the dough light and wholesome. From the moment the pizza was served to the time I was finished, the pizza never became soggy. The crust was thin, yet doughy and soft. It was supportive enough to hold all the toppings, and it was not greasy in the least. The crust's edge was extremely crispy but not burnt at all. Literally everything I could ask for in a pizza dough; Pizza Luce delivered! I ordered one of the seasonal fall specialty pizzas: the Curried Coconut Butternut Squash. I decided to add some tofu for protein and asked for the cilantro on the side. I wasn't too sure how the cilantro was going to compliment the toppings, but after trying some on a couple bites I added it to the rest of the pizza; it brought liveliness and wonderful tang. Butternut squash is always excellent, and coupled with the flavors of curry, the crispness of fresh bell peppers, the saltiness of feta cheese, and the sweetness of pineapple made this one of the best pizzas I've had. The small size could easily feed two people, but I am not normal, don't get full, and was very hungry so I ate the whole thing. The toppings were piled on generously, and I left wanting more. Basically an infinite amount of combinations if you build your own pizza, and a plethora of specialty pizzas gives plenty of variety for anyone in the family. Gluten friendly and vegan friendly establishment, full bar, casual environment, and the ability to watch pizza dough being hand tossed makes this restaurant a perfect place to grab some lunch or dinner. The house-made Tiramisu is nothing special, the portion is small enough for one person, but it was still pretty decent. It was fresh and light, so it compliments their pizza very well; it just didn't have the robust rum or espresso flavors that a true Tiramisu should have. Their fall special apple crisp dessert was pretty good, but again it didn't make me jump out of my seat. Their fall pumpkin soy ice cream on the other hand... WOW. I think they bring in their ice cream from a small ice cream shop, but I seriously couldn't stop smiling while eating my scoop. It had an intense pumpkin flavor and it was perfect for the fall and winter season. Service is a little slow, but the atmosphere is nice, they have a bunch of beer on tap (happy hour is cheap for tap beers, but note that you have to sit in the bar to get those prices) and lots of food to try. There was literally a gap in the middle that had no sauce or cheese, the crust itself tasted undercooked like raw dough, and the vegan cheese was unappetizing. Pizza Luce has a great atmosphere and really awesome pizza creations. We were glad to have found such extensive gluten free options on the menu. We ordered one of the gluten free appetizers and had one of the best gluten free breads we have ever tasted. They told us it was something they made in house, and I wish it was something they would sell in grocery stores. The pizza we ordered, a gluten free Ruby Rae, was also one of the best pizzas and gluten free crusts I have had. The service at the Duluth location was very slow, but our waitress was very friendly. We overheard that they were short one staff member that night, as the table next to us had their order completely lost. I also don't ever recall getting a refill on my soda (which was gone before the pizza arrived) but we did have extra waters at our table. The only downside to Pizza Luce that would prevent me from eating it more often is the price. The appetizer was $10+ and the Pizza was pushing $20. read more

We stopped in here with our family on the way home from a trip and ordered three pizzas and 2 buffalo wing appetizers. Our total bill with tip was roughly $100. The pizzas were quite good we tried the Boss and the Bear. Also tried the seasonal squash pizza which was probably one of the more interesting selections we made. The pizza was nothing to sneeze at but I'm not sure how far I would drive to eat it, if you know what I mean - it was very good but not fabulous. The couple of complaints I have would be first about the music which was heavy metal type and quite loud and oppressive. The other thing I noted when watching the pizzas being made is that no one had hairnets or gloves. I would think this would be a prerequisite for any cutting-edge eatery. If you are in the mood for pizza while in the Duluth area I would go straight to this business. We took our pizza down to Canal Park and enjoyed it watching the ships. Try a baked potato pizza, or a pizza that is upside down, there are lots! They all taste great, and it's definitely worth trying something different when you go there.
