Menu designed to offer vegan, vegetarian, and food to satisfy standard carnivores. :-) Huevos Luce'ros were awesome, I did not add chorizo and found them to be incredibly filling and still very nicely spiced. Although everyone else's meals were very good, pizza, pastas, even the brownie sundaes were yum, my entree of a salmon salad was not only bad...but had gone bad. The cook insisted he cooked it 4 times, however I guess he was unaware that does not remove bacteria from expired fish/salmon. It tasted fishy, was a bit too dark (brown/grey almost) and dry. The manager gave us a coupon for an appetizer, however, did not remove it from our bill, which we found odd. We did not make a big to-do about it, but now, a day after, feeling unwell through the night, weak today, maybe I should have...and that was just from taking 2-3 small bites. My other favorite place that I wish was in San Francisco. This is the BEST pizza place. They have an amazing selection of pizzas and if you wish to create your own the toppings are endless. If you decide not to go down the pizza route there are sandwiches, pasta, salads, etc to indulge in. Nice wine and beer list. And on Sunday's they have half-priced bottles of wine night and you can get an entire bittle for like $12!!!! They have some tasty sweets too, chocolate covered rice krispy bars, peanut butter bars, carrot cake, etc. The setting is also very modern and houses a lot of local artists work. Staff is friendly and the has the appearance of the up-to-date hippy! This is also an ideal place to go for brunch, they have a bloody mary bar where you can create something wonderful and a perfect wake-me-up! We went today, Sunday, for pizza. Pizza was great, Ruby Rae, and Athena. The service was unfortunately really poor. Our waitress seemed to care less that we were there. She was neither friendly or attentive. It was one of those situations where you never see them. No silverware, party of nine, two families. Had to go find it ourselves, not too big a deal, but it got worse. Nearly 50 minutes, no pizza, and no check in, drink refills, any interaction. When pizza arrived, did not include kids meal for our 9 year old. No apologies. "It's coming" was all waitress could manage. What was so irksome was that she seem like she could care less. As everyone eating except our 9 year old, i went to track down the "slice of cheese" that just wasn't coming. I asked for manager who I told our story to. She took money off of bill. Took while to get bill after we were done, had to go to register, as waitress gave me bill, she complained about the manager getting mad at her because I complained. Obviously young gal that does not learn from her mistakes. Really full of self importance not really caring about customer or respecting her boss well enough to refrain complaining about her boss to of all people but the customers she just so poorly served. I've been to the Luce's in the twin cities, and we wanted a quick meal on Friday after driving up to Duluth for the "Crossing Borders" art tour. We started with a couple glasses of petite Syrah (great choice - but they don't notice that your glass is empty) and some roasted Brussels sprouts - flavor of the sprouts was good but the we're undercooked badly, and the aioli was more of a flavorless mayo with cheap garlic salt in it - almost sweet rather than savory. The server(s) were basically inept, but the saving grace was the pizza - we had a Luce - straight up done great. My wife eats gluten-free and Pizza Luce in the Twin Cities work great for her. So while in Duluth we decided it was a safe bet for lunch. Wrong. Service was mediocre at best and it took too long to get the food. I had a meatball sandwich, the VERY best I can say about it was that it was edible. Service was absolutely horrible. We went during the busy time during the day on Sunday for brunch. We ended up waiting with about 3 other groups of people and there was no host to help us. Workers just stared at us and didn't help. Finally a waitress asked if we have been helped and told us to have a seat in the bar area. I love Pizza Luce. It has long been my favorite restaurant in town! The food is always delicious and diverse. They have many gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options. They have a rotating seasonal menu. The environment is cool and relaxed, and the staff is friendly and attentive. I really like that they have a bar separated from the restaurant, which has a slightly different vibe. It's a neat venue for live music. I recommend the Pizza Athena or the Garlic Mashed Potato Pizza. Both are delicious and should be paired with (a lot of) beer. I also really enjoy their spinach salad, artichoke dip, and humongous brownie ice cream sundae. Most things on the menu are reasonably priced, save for their specialty pizzas that I will always spend the money on but wish they didn't cost quite so much. More bonuses: Pizza Luce is open nice and late for dine-in and delivery, and they serve late-night pizza by the slice. Staying at a nearby hotel, I ordered a pizza for delivery along with their bruschetta. The food arrived within 30 minutes and was still warm. The bruschetta had a bit of a mild kick to it and was delicious, maybe the best I've ever had. For the pizza, I ordered the Luce special (sausage, garlic, onion, cheese) and it was as good as advertised. Came here real late one night on a trip last year and sat at the bar. GREAT bartender!!! I'm from Chicago and besides being somewhat picky about food, presentation, quality, etc, I have major issues with pizzas when ordering them in places outside of Chicago...with all the construction that was going on at that time at Pizza Luce when we walked in, I thought, "Uh...hmmm....risky move to order a pizza here???" However, we ended up ordering one and were really quite pleased!!!!!!!!! Now, we're up here in Duluth again for a long weekend...went to Pizza Luce for breakfast this morning...WONDERFUL!!!! Great service and fantastic dishes! BF ordered the Salmon Benedict and oooooh, the dill cream cheese sauce was divine over the VERY fresh tasting salmon! Just kind of melted in your mouth! I ordered the Tomato Florentine with the tapenade and vegan hollandaise sauce - excellent! And I'm as far as one can get from being a vegan!! I'm a dedicated Pizza Luce brunch guest. Absolutely love the unique brunch items with the choice to still get "regular" breakfast if need be. They serve the brunch until 2 pm on Saturday and Sunday which is great. I also love their pizza and sandwiches. Great variety in regards to pizza/sandwich/appetizer Italian fare. The only reason I didn't do 5 stars is the service. It's hit or miss. There are a few excellent servers that I'm always happy to see...however if they are not working I get a bit worried. I've had too many slow service experiences unfortunately. It's more laid back here, but that shouldn't mean servers can chat the whole time if it's slow and not pay attention to tables. (Sorry guys, like I said there are awesome servers too that don't have this issue) Love the rewards program -- employees should be more trained on this! Almost every time I'm in Duluth and have time for a meal I go to Pizza Lucé. They have an excellent selection of food, but their pizza is delicious. Hand tossed crust, creative and high quality topping choices. What prompts me to leave this review tonight though is their customer service. We put in an order for pizza that was taking an exceptionally long time, and the store manager walked over to our table (unprompted) and explained that our order got missed and the server had called it to their attention so our meal was on the house and we got free pizza tickets. Went here on a Friday evening and there was a 30 minute wait, which was expected. What wasn't expected was all the open tables that were not being cleaned. There was more than enough people working and literally 6 workers just standing around. One of the servers actually began rubbing the shoulders of another server and they were just standing around laughing. We were finally seated and it took probably 15 minutes to get our waters. They finally got around to taking our pizza order and the summer special pizza, they were sold out of as well as many of the tap selections... when the pizza finally came it was pretty decent and I believe our server was doing well considering her coworkers were really dropping the ball... my niece ended up getting sick at the table and when we asked for our check while her parents were frantically trying to clean up the mess, without any help from the waitstaff, it took a long time to get the check. One of the servers seemed very confused at my request. When we got our check they were all wrong but we didnt have time to figure it out because armageddon was approaching due to the time it took to finish our experience. I've eaten at Pizza Luce quite a bit in the past, but will not be eating there in the future. I have found the quality of their food to be less than excellent lately. On top of that, I ordered pizza and wings the other week. Within four hours I had terrible food poisoning! I called them in the morning and they were unwilling to simply refund my money, my only request. They said they would have to forward my request to their Corporate office, and I haven't heard anything back. I think a refund of my money was the least they could have done. I went into pizza luce later Monday night with my girlfriends and had the time of my life, the restaurant was pretty dead but when you go into the bar area there were plenty of people. The bartender gave me and my girls so much free stuff I thought he had the hots for us at first but then I realized he was doing it for everyone. I don't even get that much free stuff for my birthday!! I was getting big samples of everything behind the bar and every specialty drink I ordered from the menu he made his own way. It wasn't that good but who cares when he puts twice as much booze in it!! And on top of that he was taking shots with us! My tab was virtually nothing so I left him a huge tip. I'm originally from Florida, but was born to a family of New Yorkers who take their pizza very seriously. So I suppose that I'm a bit of a pizza snob. Pizza Luce is one of the best pizza restaurants I've been to outside of New York! Their pizza is outstanding! I'm also one of the biggest salad lover you'll ever meet, and I thought that their salads were delicious. If you go to the restaurant on Monday their special is a Cobb salad, which is definitely worth getting if you're a salad lover. My wife had their meatball sub one time we went there, and she thought it was a terrific sub. If you're a pizza lover or a salad lover like I am, then Pizza Luce is hard to beat! read more
