Our family has been a fan of Pizza Man for a long time. Tonight was a major disappointment and a lesson in how NOT to treat a loyal customer. Pizza Man messed up our order (they forgot to put pepperoni in our pepperoni pizza). Bad reviews didn't scare me away, they should have. Food was pretty good, but the service was horrible. Our food took forever, which would have been cool if the waitress checked in or refilled drinks. We got here right at 9:45 after a golf tournament on a monday night, they said online they were open until 10:30. We got there 2 people told us we would be seated soon. I have had a lot of people hype this place up to me that live in ER or Chugiak. After a quick jaunt to ER my blood sugar dropped and I needed to eat so we settled on this place. I got a small chef salad (the size of a dinner plate, not very small) for $8.50 and I split a chicken bacon ranch pizza (small) with my mother which I think was $16.75. We had to wait about 10 minutes which was fine. There isn't a whole lot of seating and it was fairly busy. The salad was fine. Not exciting or amazing, but it was fine and filled me up that I didn't really need the pizza. I took advantage of it over the salad bar as those aren't my thing. My main complaint was the pizza. While the crust was fine and chewy the pizza was bland. The chicken had zero flavor besides well, chicken. A little salt and pepper would of done it okay. The bacon was crisp and deliciously salty and the cheese actually stretched as I ate it. The ranch wasn't detectable much in the pizza (or much when I used it on my salad for that matter, and I've been told it's crack ranch) Hmmmm! Service was good at first, but we had to get up from our table to ask for refills and extra napkins after our food arrived. Our waitress was not the one who brought the food. There was no real check in after the food arrived. One girl did finally bring a pitcher refill and asked if we needed boxes and we asked for three. She never came back. Our main waitress came over and offered us boxes and we did finally get them. Overall two people could split a small salad and even a personal sized pizza and be completely satisfied. With slow to mediocre service and OK food I don't think I'd really return despite their specials on Facebook sounding delicious. I would've tried the new Greek place in ER instead, but the crowd I was with wouldn't of enjoyed that type of fare. read more

Since these newest owners have taken it over, it has gone downhill fast. Quality of the food. The wait times. The list is never-ending. Food: 5 stars for the food. Start with the cheesy bread. Fresh, so hot it'll burn your mouth, and just really really tasty. Crunchy bread, cheesy delicious top. Sauce is included and has a great flavor. Calzone - great size for sharing. Four ingredients plus the cheeses included in a very decent Alaskan price. They have a salad bar that looks as good as Carr's! And that's saying something cause I LOVE the Carr's Salad bar. Ambiance - an older feel. The booths have cracks and marks like they've been there a while. Notables - they get beer. The sizes and the types. They identify the beers as "craft" and "not craft." Only about two of the 50 or more beers are not craft!! Win. Three sizes to choose from! Cleanliness - a little messy. Like the place got slammed before we were there. A little worn. Things like the salad bar are kept in immaculate condition. Service - wonderfully nice, great advice. Very attentive. Zero complaints. I'll try the pizza next time. read more

Walls are peeling and there are multiple leaks in the ceilings. Inside is in shambles. Also, the reward points system is a joke. This restaurant used to have great service and great food. For the last year or maybe longer, pizza ordered for delivery is either forgotten or is over two hours late and cold. My husband asked to speak with a manager but got hung up on several times. Ever since the new owner took over, service and food have been terrible. We will no longer order or eat in the restaurant due to rude employees and substandard service and food. Such a shame too since we have enjoyed this place for years. DOG HAIR IN OUR PIZZA WARNING!!! Breaks my heart to say but after 20+ years, I'm having to cut off Pizza Man. After a long camping trip we decided to treat the family to Pizza Man. When we arrived home and and served up our hungry family, I unfortunately bit into a slice and pulled a LONG dog hair from my mouth. Obviously whoever made our food was unclean and owns a long haired pet. Talk about disgusting. I immediately called back and spoke to the same rep who took our call in order and payment at the counter, Michael. He offered to remake the pizza. I declined since we do not live in Eagle River. He offered a credit for a future order but I declined and asked for a refund or that the charge be canceled. He said that a credit would be completed. Well, 4 days later and I see the charge on my cc statement. I called Pizza Man and got run around. Placed on hold several times. Called back again. Placed on hold again and again. Olivia finally answered and said she was a manager. When I explained my issue, she immediately said she needed the kitchen manager and put me back on hold. After 8 min on hold, I called back again. This time Olivia said that due to the dinner rush, she couldn't help me. WTF has happed to values??? 1* reviews suck and I really hate posting any of them. So all you Joe Schmo citizens of Eagle River can shun me and hate me all you like. You might as well close your eyes for this review because o boy this lovely pizza joint boutta be on a lower pedestal then Sicily's Pizza. For starters the wait was 2 hours long which I totally knew before hand as everyone in there Mama mentioned it on Yelp. So das coo. Somewhat. So the pizza arrives 2 hours later and it is cold. Okay all good it's obviously been 2 hours I'm not that mad. Perhaps. All around the crust of my pizza is burnt so that's pretty damn gross. I pop it in the oven to prepare to chow down and the Mediterranean pizza instead of pasta sauce uses pesto sauce which actually is quite unappealing. As for the bootleg buffalo chicken which had no buffalo flavor just extremely large pieces or chicken and bacon was just not delightful at all. Let us rejoice and NOT forget the damn "Greek salad" which honestly makes me laugh. Contained inch cut pieces of nearby Hillshire Farms deli cuts and about a total of 3 olives. Sweeeet. Pizza Man used to be great. It's not anymore! Long waits indifferent servers and mediocre food. I've tried dine in and almost evaporated waiting for a beer. I used to be a regular delivery customer but then started facing 2 hour wait times only to have burnt cold pizza delivered. At one point we decided we would only order takeout from Pizza Man but now they have become so slow and unreliable that we don't even bother. It's good pizza but I can drive into Anchorage, eat and return before Pizza Man can have a takeout order ready. Bella Vista in Peters Creek or Muldoon Pizza are better choices! read more

Pizza Man is Eagle River's hometown hangout for pizza, salad bar, and tie-dye shirts with there logo. I think everyone in town owns a t-shirt if they have lived here for more than a few years. But the pizza is only okay, nothing special, nothing unique, and while it held its own in our hearts when it was the only option, now it is outclassed by better quality competition. The place is still busy, yes, but because of nostalgia and not quality. The lack of quality extends to its salad bar, it's parking, its dining room, it's everything including its identity. The best thing about Pizza Man is their long established presence and their t-shirts. Go once for the experience and buy the t-shirt. But regularly get your pizza somewhere else. read more

The ingredients were not complete as listed on the menu and the crust was soggy and under cooked--over all, just not the same quality. Also, the dressing tasted different and was watered down. First off- we love this establishment. We frequent this restaurant often and it is our tradition that we come to with visitors out of town on our way back to Anchorage. I called 2+ hours in advance to inform the staff that we were coming with a party of 20. They stated As long as we were there before 10pm they will be able to accommodate us. When we arrived at 930 they informed me that they could not sit us. I told them that we did not have to sit together, we could sit in tops of four or five. After (multiple) recent disappointing visits to pizza man I feel like I need to update my review, as I definitely do not feel the same. It has always been slammed busy here and that was never an issue for me, but I do have an issue with poor service from visibly flustered servers. I've been there, but don't treat people poorly just because the restaurant is busy - find a new job? That goes to multiple servers there. Also, the salad bar I used to daydream about has gone completely downhill. The lettuce and spinach is now always wilted/slimy and clearly past its expiration date. When I brought this to the attention of an employee, she acted annoyed that she had to do something about it. Last but not least, the straw that broke the camels back, the no water incident. They did not have water to serve because their system was "backed up." What I think she meant to say is that because they refuse to turn the heat on, the pipes froze. The entire restaurant was FREEZING. If you have been a PM customer for a while, you know its ALWAYS cold in there. This time, is was wayyyy colder. Why even be open? Lately they have had the worst service. They keep forgetting items and even the manager seems like they don't have time to deal with petty mistakes. They forgot to add the Caesar dressing to my order for my Caesar salad and proceeded to ask me if I really needed the dressing! WHY WOULD I ORDER A CAESAR SALAD IF I DIDN'T WANT the dressing.
