Tortorice's Pizza is one of the few places I'd travel to pick up. I came across Tortorice's when I used to live in the area and sadly I moved out of their delivery range. The pizza was so delicious that I couldn't give up on the pizza shop. During my recent order I tried the sweet chili wings and it was unbelievable. The wings had a crisp to them but the sweet chili sauce had a nice kick to them. Like many places it's not a full wing but split in half so keep that in mind. It's still a good amount of food. I normally order the tavern style pizza and Tortorice's does not hold back on toppings. Each slice is jam packed with toppings. Everything tastes fresh and high quality. One thing to note is I ordered my food for a specific pick up time but ended up having to wait additional time for the rest of my order to be ready. I know the food is worth the wait so I don't mind but giving a heads up so you don't come starving and expect to get your food right away. It's happened the last few visits. The location is located conveniently on Irving Park so it's easy to find. Parking might be an issue if you drive. read more

Food is pretty good. But it's always so disappointing to see restaurants employing AI art into their business. Small businesses should be supporting small businesses. It adds to the disappointment that their old signage was obviously custom made and really cool. read more

Ordered from here last night and decided to go pick it up since it was an 80 min delivery window--may as well have just waited for the delivery as arrived at the designated pick up timeframe and my pizza was nowhere to be found! "Someone else must have taken it" was the response. They had to make it from the beginning while I waited. I think it just never got made. They did say they'd comp the pizza--we'll see what shows up on my credit card. Unfortunate but the pizza was delish once we got it! read more

Went to Tortorice's on Grand. Haven't been in about 6 years and things have definitely changed. First there's no parking anymore. The parking lot is only for " employees only" so we had to park about a block away and walk to the restaurant . Then you have to wait in line to be seated only to seat yourself. Walk back to the counter and order your food and pay for it up front before you dined in.... The prices have skyrocketed drastically.... 5 wing dings are $10... which by the way are still good but really the price really? Then 5 mozzarella sticks are $12 which need seasoning in the breading and tasted a bit bland. The pizza was still pretty good but the price increase was ridiculous. They no longer have fountain drink or offer water or ice, everything was in a can which the can pops were $2 and some change. The total came to $95 for a party of two. The tables were close to one another with minimal privacy or space. And the staff did a drive by check in to see if things were okay. We asked if they had courtesy cups of water and were told we'd get a courtesy bottle water but they never came back. The prices increased but the portions and taste decreased and the customer service was horrible. I will not he going back anytime soon. read more

I ordered the eggplant parmesan and was excited when I saw the packaging - it looked like significant portion. But I cut into it only to find that it was mostly sauce and cheese, followed by breading, and then very little eggplant under it all. To make it worse, the garlic bread was too stale to eat, the fries were either hard or soggy and none worth eating. I requested the house vinaigrette for the salad, and they sent a creamy peppercorn dressing. I also ordered a pizza with mushrooms. Been coming to Tortorice since moving back to Chicago in 2019. It's my go to place when I'm craving a good solid pizza without the frills or extensive bake wait time for other types of pizza that can be found. Not that the others are bad, just sometimes you want a pizza that's classic- solid crust, great sauce, fresh toppings all blanketed with cheese that is creamy and has the best pull when you take a bite. I have had it delivered and have gone to pick it up on the way home, in both cases the staff is friendly and the pizza is always warm like it just got out of the oven. I definitely recommend this place when you are craving old school pizza. read more

I've gotten Panzarottis here twice for takeout, and it's probably the only thing I'll ever order here because they are delicious! Much like Ben Wyatt, I appreciate a good calzone. And also like Ben Wyatt, many people look at me with confusion when I express my desire for one in Chicago. "Why, Ali? There are so many good pizza options in Chicago, why would you want a calzone?" Well it's because calzones are the superior form of pizza and I don't want to hear any arguments about it. What can be better than a delicious fried piece of dough stuffed with an obscene amount of cheese, your favorite toppings, meant to be devoured piece by piece dipped into pizza sauce or ranch dressing? Nothing, I tell you! I'll spare you before I start serenading you about my love of calzones. ANYWAYS, Tortorice's has the only acceptable calzone in Chicago that I have tried. I can't even tell you how many sad, pathetic excuses for calzones I've had to endure before discovering this glorious creature known as the Panzarotti. Don't let the name fool you (and you will be fooled, they call this thing at least 3 different names on their own website- Calzone, Panzarotti, and Picasso- I guess it is having an identity crisis?), it's a calzone and it's delicious. I had the option of having it fried or baked. If you've come this far, you're not looking to save calories by having it baked. Fry that puppy up for me! I usually order one with pineapple and onions, and I'm ashamed to admit that I can down this gargantuan beast in one sitting. It's not easy, but I'm doing it in the name of calzones everywhere...or whatever they're called. Dip it in some ranch, put on a bib and go to town. You'll thank me later. I'm sure their other stuff is great too, but when you find a good calzone, you don't have a pizza mistress. read more

I have been a fan of Pequods for a long time, and didn't think there were any other places that could compare. I always hated the wait there, but it was a necessary evil. Boy was I wrong. Browsing Yelp one night for a new pizza joint near my new apartment, I came across Tortorice's and thought the pictures looked good. I typically don't care much for deep dish, but this looked so much like Pequod's I thought I'd give it a try. I ordered a 12" deep dish pie with caramelized crust, and on top got giardiniera and pepperoni. When it arrived I was impressed by how heavy it was. Opening the box revealed a beautiful pizza covered in a protective sheet of paper. The pizza tasted delicious at first bite and the crust was just as good as the other place. In fact, it was so good I finished the whole thing in one sitting! Since this experience, I've been telling all my friends about it and will definitely make this my go-to spot, especially when COVID is gone and I can go in person. read more

We were on the search for a late night pizza by the slice joint and came across Tortorices through Yelp. For 3 slices of pepperoni, 3 cans of pop and 2 bags of fries, our total came up to about $30. A little pricey for pizza by the slice in my book. For that price I could have gotten 5 whole pizzas from Little Ceasars and had some leftover for lunch the next day! Taste wise, I wasn't blown away. The pizza was a little flimsy for me and it seemed like it was sitting there for a minute. I like my dough a little crispy on the bottom and the crust. I guess it could have been that we came around 8pm so we may have had the last batch that was cooked for that day, and maybe not as freshly cooked as I would have liked? Flavor was average, nothing it extraordinary. May have to pass on this joint next time due to the numerous other pizza spots in the area that I'm willing to try. On the plus side, they are open til 10pm on a Sunday if that makes any difference to anybody. read more

Updated review - Management reached out after my prior experience when they did not prepare the pizza correctly. We were happy to give them another try and this time they nailed it. Pizza was delivered as instructed (well done and uncut) and tasted great. It held up MUCH better to delivery this way. We had a crisp and fresh pizza, instead of a soggy mess. Toppings were good as well (pep and garlic on half, sausage and hot peppers on half). Get the burnt cheese crust as well! If you're picky about your pizza preparation the way I am, my only recommendation is to make sure the store repeats your order back to you. read more

Tortice's is my new favorite pizza joint. We ordered late last night during a crazy Chicago snow storm. I don't usually order pizza because I'm super picky with my za. However, I had a pizza craving, we were hungry and we couldn't move our cars since it snowed over a foot. In the middle of this snow storm, we ordered delivery straight through the restaurant. Our pizza got here within 50 minutes, as promised, and was HOT & DELICIOUS as hell!! We were all pleasantly surprised and will be ordering from here when we don't want to endure the long wait at Pequods. Tortice's comes very close and is so damn good! Our leftovers warmed up perfectly in the oven. Big props to our delivery driver!! He got here quick, braved the storm and trekked thru the snow to bring the pizza to our door. FYI, you CAN tip the drivers cash even though the restaurant insisted we pay tip on the card. read more

I enjoy coming to Tortorice's because it's right in the neighborhood and beats deep dish! (I know how crazy that sounds coming from a native Chicagoan's mouth hahaha!) However, I feel like their customer service and time management have gone down hill significantly since they opened. On our last visit, they said pizza by the slices would be out in 10 minutes, but it took OVER AN HOUR. They didn't even keep us updated on the delay, and only offered a free Pepsi on them. On a visit before that, two workers were having a full blown argument in front of us about someone forgetting to send something out on a delivery. They didn't acknowledge us AT ALL as we were standing at the counter and no pleasantries were exchanged when we were finally taken care of. Rewriting my review. Tortorices contacted me directly to remedy the order. The management is really trying their best. It still seems to be hit or miss with the accuracy of the orders, but if you call directly they have been very willing to remedy the issues since that first review. They really do have the best pizza crust. I highly recommend their caramelized cheese crust pan pizza. It's the best I've ever had when it actually arrives correctly. Like I said before, I have been ordering from Tortorices for a few years now. They seem to be struggling with accuracy lately, but I hope I can just chalk it up to covid staffing issues. read more

So..the Doordash driver obviously mishandled the pizza because half the sauce and cheese were squished on one side. Not the restaurants fault but still annoying. Pizza is good. The crust was so thin in the middle though that it didn't support the weight of the fillings and it was soggy. Crust is ok, kind of dry actually. Not the buttery cornmeal crust I'm used to. Found Totorice's by searching for pizza in the Ravenswood/Lincoln Square neighborhood and was looking for a thin crust pizza to try away from other local staples. I used the website to order online for delivery, which was easy to use and there was a tracker to inform you of the status of your order. The Totorice's Special has the standard supreme toppings with sausage, onion, mushrooms, and green peppers. The Uncle Vito's White Pizza I wish had a tad more flavor, perhaps I should have added garlic. I'd recommend to give it a try. I have been going there for some time. Since about the time they opened. have made it a point to go there during these times. Times are tough and I want to support my local places. Previously they were ready and took care of me in a timely manner. This last visit not so much. The sign states 1 person allowed in. Fine, No problem, sunny day. However,there was a person just standing around on her phone after checking with the attendant. Here my food is ready to pickup and hers isn't and she is taking up the space allowed. After another person just went in, I said ... f&&& it and entered with all of them inside and waited for my turn to get the attendants attention and my food... Everybody else was waiting for their food order to be completed hanging around. It is one thing to have a rule about occupancy quite another not to enforce it and take care of customers that are ready to pick up. Had I not paid for it ahead of time, I'd would have just left without it. I will be giving serious consideration if I want to go there again during these times and if I do.. I sure as hell won't be pre-paying for the order. If this happens again, I will leave and never come back. There are plenty of pizza places and other fast food places that are doing right for the customer. read more

Chicago is known for their deep-dish, and rightly so, there are over 30 variations listed throughout the neighborhoods that comprise the Windy City. Some like their pizza layered like a casserole, others more like lasagna. Some want crust like a pie, others a delicate mesh of caramelized mozzarella; the variations can be too much for the everyday thinker who every second is growing hungrier and less inclined to weight the minutia of different pizza parlors. The slightest nuance of sauce to cheese ratio is certainly one of the most debated in the city, and if you dare insult someone's favorite slice, well, I hope you're ready to have to defend against a cut-throat argument on why your taste is garbage. So, with that said, I have to admit that my favorite deep-dish definitely belongs to Tortorice's, and I'm sure you mispronounced the name. No, it's not "torto-riss-is" or anything even remotely related to a tortoise. The desire to call it that is strong, but it's an authentic Italian establishment and it's pronounced "torto-ree-sees." You have to make the correct hand gesture () when saying it also, practically a requirement. Saying the name correctly shows people you know good pizza, and also have some worldly mystique about you for knowing proper Italian names. This is definitely longer than I intentioned on writing but you see pizza is a very very beloved topic for many, and the warmth of a well-balanced ratio of flavors, texture, and size is something fiercely contested, seriously you someone will stab you if you **** on their pizza. It's sometimes best to not bother with attacking specific names because it's a sure way to get on someone's hit list. Finding the right pizza for you is a journey of discovery, and one that is as unique as you are(or arent). Long story short: After years and years of trying pizza from all over Chicago I have finally found my pizza-match. They really need to develop a app to match chicagoans to a pizza shop that caters to their taste, maybe call it "Za". I'm trademarking that so don't even think about it. My favorite pizza is Tortorice's for their amazing deep-deep dish that is authentically Italian, perfect ratio, bake, and the caramelized crust is sinfully good. Seriously I have to pray *after* eating it because it was almost too good to believe it isn't some kind of delicious cheese magick. I love this pizza place, and I rarely ever say I love anything. The outstanding food has made come back after one day of purchasing. I started with, spaghetti and meatballs, meat ravioli, lasagna all with extra meatballs. They have a creamy red sauce that makes you salivate. The meatballs don't have a crazy amount of fillers. If you've ever had chewy meatballs you know what I'm talking about. They are hearty, meaty and a generous portion. The next day ordered signature appetizers and western style pizza. No matter what you order, it's perfect. Even when it's delivered. read more
