Last night was first time I ordered take out ( also my last). My order was a large pizza - half plain half sausage and extra brown on the crust & a half order chicken parm wings. Picked up order got home and the pizza was half pepperoni and not crispy or brown crust and the wings under fried, not crispy skin on the " flat" wings just soft skin . Now I forgive the wrong pizza meat as maybe I just got someone else's order but the only thing that was good with the entire order was that the amount of cheese they use is ample which most places are just short. If you order extra cheese you're chewing on rubber bands. It seems no one ever gets that right .. they're all being cheap and skimpy. The sauce on this pizza was bitter, like eating paste, not thinned a little bit & it was horrible and the crust chewy and soft. Pizza is my life long love. I've had pizza my entire life from living downstate, MD, VA and here. This ranks high on the bad ones. Reading the reviews I was somewhat hopeful but then again, seeing reviews from here is a crap shoot as so many praise places I think are inferior and wouldn't eat there. Some seem to get praised more for length of time in business rather than on food taste, quality etc. So for my family I'm sad to say Pizza on the Plaza is a bust! read more

Recently reopened under new owners. What a great little local gem! The pizza is fantastic. The menu for a start up is small but everything I've had so far is fresh and delicious. The more support and business they get, the better the chance of them asking more options. Our last order they made a mistake. Not only did they fix it but they sent us home. With more than double of what we had originally ordered! You won't get better customer service! Give them a try, give them a referral, give them a review! You won't regret it. I've noticed this little spot in JC for a while and always wanted to give it a shot. The restaurant is quaint and very clean. Ordered a chicken wing pizza to go and had a draft beer. Bartender was very polite as well as the manager (maybe owner?) I was handed the box as I paid my bill and headed home. I could tell this was a loaded pizza since it was pretty heavy. The pizza itself has a good flavor and the chicken is fried to a crisp but to a tasty level. I would have given this pizza and restaurant a pretty high review but the amount of grease was unsettling. Per the pictures below I had to clean my car as well as my home bar because the amount of grease spilled out of the box and was actually pooled in the box. I by no means am the dab the pizza with a paper towel to wipe off the grease kind of guy but in order to save a few years on my life, i had to in this case. Hope they get this figured out because overall it's a nice privately owned shop with what looks to be good ingredients. The grease however makes it close to inedible. read more

Chicken Spiedies was delicious. It's a six inch sub with grilled chicken, peppers, and onions. It was quite good and that's despite the fact that I opted out of the cheese. The staff was well intentioned, asking every so often if I needed this or that, and even struck up a convo about where I was from. Overall, good experience. read more

SO GOOD! First.. the staff was very sweet.. I've never been here and decided to take one of the individuals I work with for lunch. The customer service was good for the most part & the staff was very friendly. Food was delicious and they might have some of the best wings in town. However when you first walk in the employees just stare at you & didn't speak until they were spoken too. read more

My kids and I shared a pizza and a garden salad (which was huge, I couldn't finish). We were all pleased and enjoyed our meal. I like that the crust wasn't super thin and soggy like many places. It was a little thicker with a slight crisp on the bottom. My very picky daughter even kept saying "yum" as she ate. The place was clean and we had great service. read more

Have tried this place on multiple occasions. The first time we ordered a pizza it was about 30 minutes till closing, went, picked it up and brought it home and was incredibly displeased with the exceptionally sloppy pie that was half baked. The crust was still raw dough inside. At that point they had closed and I didn't feel like dealing with it the following day so we threw a whole pizza away. Figured maybe we caught a bad night - they had just reopened after the previous owners (Nevolle's) ran it into the ground with a similar pie, so a month or so later we figured they'd been open for a few weeks, we decided to try again and again horribly disappointed. Posted an honest and real 1 star review on their Facebook page and they deleted it. The seocnd pizza was still under cooked but at least it wasn't raw. If you like a sloppy generic pizza similar to the old Pudgies that were around here for decades then this place may be exactly what your looking for. Bland sauce and lower quality cheese just make this pizza something that's not edible IMO. It's too bad because we have been hopeful a good pizza place would open again in Johnson City. It's something that has been sorely missed since the days of Pizza Express and The Villa. IMO if you have pizza in your name and you can't even get that right, there's no chance I'll going to try anything else on your menu. read more

I want to like this place but their pizza just seems to be missing something. I've had the pizza at least six times and it always looks great but just doesn't taste like NY style pizza should. The crust is okay but the pizza - blah. The prices are higher than most pizza joints which would be okay if the product was good. read more

The pizza is not very good. The cheese and crust are not bad but the sauce is not very good. Also the pepperoni is terrible both me and my girlfriend picked it off the pizza so i'd recommend staying away from it! If you get cheese or another topping it might not be to bad. read more

I'll start by saying the food has been good every time I've eaten at Pizza on the Plaza. They also have a fantastic two slice special on weekdays that keeps me coming back despite what I'm about to write. Every time I've gone, the service has been mediocre at best. I usually sit at the bar to eat during lunch and I doubt it's ever been wiped down. read more

Such a quaint place out of the way of all the hustle bustle. We were in from out of town, and treated like regulars. Food was delicious with generous portions. The owner even made me a specialty salad that wasn't on the menu. Quick and reasonably priced, yet so relaxing.... felt like home, but I didn't have to do anything. I have had their food before which has been good. However on two occasions, I have called to place an order, both times was placed on hold and was on hold for over 15-20 minutes. I could hear the person who put me on hold right next to the phone. Hung up and tried calling back several times and the phone line was busy. Very disappointing that this has happened each time I have called. I wait a few months to try to give them another shot and than the same thing happens again. I sent them a message regarding this on their facebook page and was never given an apology or anything back in response. Very disappointing!! read more

First of all, my pizza had very good flavor, as did the garlic knots that came with my husband's spaghetti, but both were underbaked and a bit doughy. That said, the service was indifferent...she looked and acted like she'd like to be anywhere but where she was, and we got our coffee and tea AFTER the mixed drinks arrived for the people who came in 5 minutes behind us. We were told the coffee had to be made fresh, but my husband could see the filled pot sitting in the kitchen untouched. And he had to request a new cup- the first one had dried coffee stains all over the outside, which I was able to remove with a wet corner of a napkin. So not stained- just not properly washed. And being Italian, I tasted the sauce on his spaghetti. We agreed it was absolutely awful. It had an uncooked, fresh-out-of-the-can tomato flavor, and little else other than the dry oregano sprinkled on top. And the spaghetti was so overcooked he couldn't get it wrapped around his fork...it just broke off. All in all, a horrible experience. The owner DID offer to refund the cost of my husband's uneaten dinner, but he said no. At this rate, they won't be around long. read more
