I would like to start this review by saying that if it was strictly about the pizza and garlic bread, I would be giving them a solid 4.5 But, tonight will probably be the last time I dine in at this restaurant, which feels like what the servers actually want here. We have frequented this place because it is open late, and my bf being a server himself, often gets off work late. I feel sort of sad writing thing review, because we really enjoy the pizza here, and love to support small businesses, but I am so tired of the attitudes we receive, and uncomfortable feeling I have in this restaurant. I have always seen this pizza. I just never gave this restaurant a chance. I thought it wasn't all that. I gave it a chance because I just had to try it. The outside didn't look that bad. The inside was sorta small. I would call just to make there is an open table. The server was great. She was great in taking our order. Now to the food. The garlic cheese bread is by far the BEST and a must try when you go!!!!! I've lived in this area since I was a kid, and I recall going to Pizza Show when I was young decades ago, but haven't been there lately until last weekend, a group of friends took us there on Sunday- it was very good. Despite what other reviews say, we had excellent service, especially for a large group, and the pizza was better than most pizza in our area! We ordered a gigantic combo pizza that would be sort of like a 'deluxe' and a gigantic with pepperoni and sausage, 50/50. The crust was especially good- crunchy and chewy. I was very pleased. We also had 2 orders of hot wings, also delicious. And a salad loaded up with meat and cheese. We are very picky about pizza, the crust has to be right- and definitely, to us, this was very good pizza. So I recommend it for sure. read more

I'm writing this review because of a repetitive unpleasant experience I've had at the counter window outside the restaurant when picking up my order. The member of the staff who rang me up was rude to me because I don't speak Spanish. I come across this often because I have a Spanish name, and some people are upset when they find out I don't speak Spanish. I'm used to the, "Why not!?" response. What I'm not used to is being questioned, aggressively and repeatedly, if I speak the language followed by rude behavior. I've been a loyal customer for the entire time I've lived in Hawthorne, but I just no longer feel comfortable getting food from here. If it was a one time occurrence, I could let it go. It has happened a second time - the visit following the first unfortunate event - and I just don't feel comfortable anymore as I feel it is bordering on discrimination. This is our fourth time here at Pizza show and I can honestly say it's the best pizza/ Italian food in Hawthorne. I love the food here. Place has a family ambience a decor that takes you back in time. Very inviting . You can taste the freshness of all the ingredients the owner chooses and the cooks take pride in everything that goes out to their guest. Very sad to report this but I can only get sick so many times after eating their pizza. I have been eating at Show since approximately the early 70s off and on. The last nine months we have been eating there more often like approximately 2 to 3 times a month. ABOUT 40 % of the time their pizza is THE BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!! The other 60% of the time I would say 30% it is way less than average prepared and another 30% It will make you sick If you have a little bit of a sensitive stomach. I've gotten used to them making it wrong meaning screwing up the ingredients at least 50% of the time but what I cannot get used to is the undercooked dough and the raw cheese which makes me sick in the middle of the night. we've brought it up to the nice lady in charge and she got in the kitchen and made things right, gave us a refund, no questions at all and she was polite and took care of things but the problem is she is not always there to supervise the kitchen and the quality of the pizzas. so we will be staying away from there for a long long time to come. Our last pizza we ordered and picked up was last Sunday evening, a giant pepperoni with mushrooms and sausage on half of it. The crust was cooked well and tasted well but the bottom of the whole pizza was very thin and definitely undercooked and or raw and the cheese was definitely undercooked.. My husband and I stopped in here because of its history as being a Beach Boys hang out and ultimately ended up loving it! The inside for sure has that old-time kitschy Italian vibe, which I'm totally down with. Murals, faux windows, faux wine barrels, etc. Our waitress was brief, but knew to refill my soda before I even asked, and our food arrived quickly. The pizza was absolutely wonderful. When I walked in it was a ghost town and there was no one there to greet me. So the "cook" comes from the kitchen and I tell him that I am there to pick up an order. He asks me if I'm paying cash or credit card....and when I tell him cash he makes go back outside to the window...where it was very windy. The total was $20.00! The lasagna was O.K. but the garlic bread was terrible. It was barely cooked. For $20.00 I could have gotten MUCH better food and service somewhere else. Discovered by accident, we return by choice. Outside is ridiculously dated. Inside, ummm yeah. Same thing. It might have been a clever trick to mask the narrowness of the restaurant, but the faux windows and doorways serve to make the place even darker. The chandeliers, in the back, are missing their red bulbs. Fake wine barrels dominate the rear wall. The booths in the front are deep and long. Ambience isn't king here. There is always a TV blaring a snowy image. Pizza is king here. I love the Pizza Show special pizza, with the exception of green peppers. If I could leave them off, I would. The pizzas are full of toppings and thick cheese with a chewy crust. They are big for their size, a small is the size of a medium most other places. They also make good calzones. The pasta dishes are Americanized, but they still taste pretty good. You can get either a salad or soup (minestrone) with your pasta. Neither is particularly interesting. The soup is sometimes too bland. I like their manicotti and the lasagna. Go for the full dinner, though, as it comes with dessert. You can even order food from an outdoor window. Parking is in the middle of Hawthorne boulevard or right in front. The police eats here, regularly. I take that as a good sign. The waitresses are sooooooooo happy to be there. (I'm being sarcastic.) You'll have to ask for things a few times before it happens. However, the owner, when he's there, will come and check on you and give you free stuff. My sister loves their cheesecake. read more

Second time ordering from the Pizza Show and I am a fan. I have lived in Hawthorne for 3 years and never tried this local spot before. My husband nor I are pizza experts so to us, this beats our regular dominos order. We order the regular medium pizza with pepperoni, sausage and mushrooms. Let me tell you, for two people, this is more than enough. We can even manage to have leftovers in the morning and taste actually better. Food was sub par. My antipasto salad was so so. Meats were pretty dry and it was lacking in toppings. My review is based on my experience and food I received a couple weeks ago. A 1 star because I have to give a star. Their "platter" is a joke. We called ahead of time to ask how many people does it feed, and we were told 3-4 people.
