I was excited to try this place after seeing the huge sign claiming it has the "2nd Best Pizza in the USA." Unfortunately, the experience didn't come close to living up to the hype. The pizza itself was extremely disappointing. The crust was bland, the sauce lacked flavor, and the overall taste was nowhere near what I would expect from a restaurant making such a bold claim. I've had far better pizza from small local shops with no awards hanging on the wall. To make matters worse, the staff was rude and unwelcoming. Customer service seemed to be an afterthought, and interactions felt more like an inconvenience to them than an opportunity to serve paying customers. A great pizza place can sometimes survive mediocre service, and great service can sometimes make up for average food. Unfortunately, this place had neither. They're #2, they're #2! I really enjoyed their very honest advertising as the #2 pizza place based on an article they were featured in and displayed in the front window. I told my kids, nothing but the second best for them! Anyway, joking aside, it was an okay experience. It took a really long time to get through the line in the front. It was frustrating since they asked you what pizza slice you wanted, but there was no way a customer could see all the pizza options. Let me start by saying we came here thinking pizza slices were still somewhat inexpensive compared to other places to eat for a quick dinner. So, with that said, it's safe to say we were naive. My husband and I put our cash together to pay for the tab. Yeah, it makes sense to some people for it to be that pricey, but we just didn't expect slices to be that much money. The pizza was good. It's wasn't super cheesy, but the marinara pizza sauce was tasty and not overly loaded on the pie. Honestly, I was hoping the cheese and sauce would've been more fused together in pure delicious harmony, but it was like they heated up old pizza slices in the oven that had been sitting out for a long time. I love pizza and I like different styles and different toppings so this place checks all the boxes and they offer a number of sides that are unique and fresh - being it's a pizzeria you don't have to commit to a whole pizza and you can pick and choose your slice or slices depending on your mood. We stopped in to grab a slice after walking around town and having skipped breakfast before driving here from NSB for the day. I liked it, especially the crust and found all the ingredients top shelf served by a very friendly staff so after thinking about it, it's cheaper than my last McDonald's drive-through lol. Allegedly, this pizza place is ranked #2 in the U.S. by TripAdvisor and CNN, so naturally, we had high expectations. We called ahead for a 20-inch cheese pizza and were told it would be $35. We decided to add olives to half of it, unaware that this seemingly simple decision would bump our total to $45--a fact we only discovered at pickup.But, remaining open-minded and optimistic, we forged ahead. We also got three potato balls. The wait was about 30 minutes. The people working there were lovely and they had plenty of seatings in the space. They let us know that the restaurant no longer has an online menu (so all the pictures floating around online are outdated). Instead, they only take orders based on what's available in the case that day, in person. In a moment of weakness (read: hunger), we stared into the case and added an order of garlic knots (3 per order) to the mix. At checkout, our grand total was just over $70 for a pizza, three garlic knots, and three potato balls. Whew, because we only had $75 in cash and it is a cash only business. Here is a honest review of the food: 1. the pizza wasn't terrible--it was what one expects from a NY slice, nothing unique. The pizza itself reminded us of Costco pizza, but greasier, and we were disappointed by how floppy it was--the bottom lacked any crispness. 2. Upon closer inspection, there were 34 olives in total. Perhaps they were hand-picked this morning in the Mediterranean and flown in first-class since they costed $10? One can only hope. 3. I want to start by saying if I was basing this purely off of the pizza it would be 4-4.5 stars not 3. That being said the food itself is not the only metric. The restaurant is cash only which is pretty inconvenient (for me atleast, I'm aware some carry cash) and it is very expensive. I got four slices of pizza total, two for me & two for my girlfriend as well as a water bottle. That came out to about $40. I know it is in a touristy area but every other restaurant was reasonably priced. Your only option is to buy the pizza by the slice which isn't necessarily advertised. I'm not a ranch on pizza person but my girlfriend is and she was pretty disappointed to hear that they didn't have any. Overall, great pizza but is overpriced & cash only is not ideal. read more
