I had never even heard of this place, but wanted a casual but cute place to celebrate my three-year anniversary with my new fiancé and this was perfect! I made a reservation online and noted that it was a special occasion for us. We sat upstairs next to the window and we could look out over the Christmas village near PPG. The bread with oil is amazing and our zucchini appetizer was incredible. Both my fiancé and I had wood fired pizzas-- he had pepperoni and mushrooms on his and I got the spicy meatballs. The crust was perfectly doughy and there was plenty of fresh garlic and basil in the sauce along with the toppings. At the end of our meal, our waitress brought us tiramisu with a candle to celebrate our anniversary/recent engagement! It made our day. Had dinner here a couple of weeks ago and wow. So so good. We just got the Margherita pizza and shrimp pasta. The pizza is by far our new fave in the city. Definitely need to make a reservation here! Oh my gosh. YUM! Everything was delicious! My boyfriend and I split a 12inch pizza and a small salad, plus they bring homemade bread and dipping oil/vinegar! It is hard to go wrong with amazing carbs. It is a tad pricey, but I would rather pay a little extra for something that meets my expectations versus getting let down for something 5 dollars cheaper. First thing to say, we were very appreciative of the service, we walked up on a busy Friday night and the hostess did what she could to find us a table. The pizza was very impressive, if a touch salty but that may have been due to the salami. The dough and the sauce were outstanding. The pasta dish was solid but was definitely overshadowed by the pizza, the pasta itself was perfectly fresh but could have used a more flavorful sauce. One of my favorite places for Italian Food! We stopped by last minute on a Saturday Night for a double date dinner. Even though it was very full, we were able to get in the waitlist, and a table was available very quickly. The hedges surrounding the outdoor seating makes you feel like you are in a little garden, which I absolutely love. We got the large Cesare Salad, which had so much Parmesan on it, I loved it. The Chicken Limone, which was super tender and had these delicious green beans with a white wine butter sauce, that I couldn't get enough of. Made a reservation for my daughter's college graduation. We were sat at the empty upstairs dinning room. The waiter was polite, not interested in conversation just business. He took our order for drinks and appetizers. Never delivered bread to our party of six. He brought our appetizers. Let us be, we enjoyed the appetizers but never came back to ask for bread. We finished our appetizers and about 10 minutes he reappeared to our table with our entrees without ever taking our appetizer dishes. I had to ask the server to have the dirty plates removed. I spoke to the manager if this was the norm. He said " oh no let me help with that" There was no change in the service after speaking to the manager. The server never asked about drink refills or additional cocktails. Never check on us about the food or anything. The food was meh, very heavy on parmesan cheese on EVERYTHING. Terrible experience for such a fun celebration. The waiter only acknowledged our event (which was on our reservation and told to the person that brought us to our table) when we were leaving. My mother, three daughters and I all enjoyed a girls only Mother's Day at pizzaiolo Primo this past Sunday. This was my second time eating here, but my first trying their pizza. We ordered the funghi and the Bianca, both were delicious! I would absolutely order them again. The sauce, the prosciutto the crust.... So, so good!! This was a big date night for us so we ordered quite a bit- a bottle of wine, fried calamari and complimentary bread and oil to start. Everything was perfect- but we beware the arrabiata style calamari is spicy! My boyfriend ordered the chicken parmesan and I ordered their special- spaghetti in a lemon cream sauce with crab and green onions. Both were delicious. The chicken parm could have been a tad crispier but the flavor was great. We finished off with coffee and espresso, and a tiramisu which was so great! Our server, Bridget was so friendly and timely! Pizzaiolo Primo has slightly above average Italian food. There are definitely some things I like about the place like the atmosphere and the service. My most recent time here we had a party of about 15 and the staff did a great job staying on top of the food and drink orders. The food just needs a little something more. I have had the pizza and the penne alla vodka. For the pizzas I tried the margarita, with buffalo mozzarella and the prosciutto and arugula. The buffalo provolone on my margarita pizza was great. Both pizzas had a pretty good flavor, my issue with them was how chewy the crust was. Except for at the very ends, the pizza was not at all crisp. This caused the pizza to fall apart and just made things sloppy. The penne alla vodka I previously had was ok, but the flavors just were not that impressive. I had lunch at Pizzaiolo Primo with a group of friends last week. It was my first time at this location. While it is no longer the same owners as the Mt. Lebanon location, the menu is mostly the same and the food is also great. We arrived early (with reservations) before the lunch rush and sat in the window upstairs. By the time we left it was packed. We shared three pizzas (Margherita, Bianca and Prosciutto E Arugula). They were all delicious (except for the oregano on the Bianca - I don't like oregano ). We also had an order of meatballs (came out fast and piping hot) and Arancini. Our waiter was great. Very attentive with great recommendations and just the right amount of sass (I mean that I the best possible way) Overall great experience. We split a margherita pizza that was cooked to perfection and it was delicious as well! The hostess was beyond rude, ignorant, and shouldn't be a person in that role who is greeting customers. The manager was very nice and apologized for her rudeness, but that doesn't excuse her behavior. He did continue to check in with us during the meal. I can't speak for the pizza, but I found the pasta here to be quite terrible. I ordered the Cacio Pepe, which is a classic Roman pasta made with pecorino and pepper. It's supposed to be a rich, creamy white sauce, but what they served at this restaurant was dry as a bone. This is a super simple recipe -- only three ingredients! -- so it all depends on quality ingredients and good preparation, and both were lacking here. Honestly it tasted like canned supermaket pasta from Chef Boyardee. Gross. The servers were nice and friendly so I added a star. read more

My girl friend and I stopped here for a quick bite to eat while we were downtown. We were both craving Italian food, so we decided to check out Pizzaiolo Primo. I would definitely recommend making a reservation when you come here, because it was packed and we ended up having to sit at the bar for dinner. They offered some good looking appetizers, pasta, pizzas, and meats, but we decided to split an appetizer and a pizza. We went with the caprese salad, which consisted of big slices of mozzarella and tomato, topped with basil and olive oil. It was super fresh, and tasted of high quality. I just wish there was some bread that we could have paired with it which would have made it incredible! For the pizza, we decided to go with the Salsiccia Pizza pizza, as this is one of our favorites. We thought the pizza was going to come out bigger, but the pizzas are definitely sized for an individual (which is good to know for the future). My wife and I had dinner at Il Pizzaiolo Primo on Saturday. We hadn't been there for a few months, but tonight's experience has made me realize that I shouldn't have stayed away so long! We shared a burrata pizza and a "featured" dish of rigatoni with a short rib ragu. The flavors were perfect! The pizza and the pasta could not have been better. The pasta was cooked to that perfect hint of aldente and the short rib ragu with mushrooms and caramelized onions made for one of the best dishes I have eaten anywhere!! I prefer sticking with appetizers like arancini and burrata. And for those looking for entrees, I recommend the Neapolitan pizza. For some reason I'm not a fan of their pasta entrees. Reservations are recommended if preference is siting at a table. The upstairs has more seating (though a bit close together for my comfort) and another bar. This restaurant is a true gem. When my friend came to town to visit, I wanted to take her somewhere special, so I tested this one out. I loved it, so I brought my friend a few days later. The food was divine - flavorful and filling. It's a little on the pricier side, but totally worth it. They use ingredients and recipes straight from Italy, which really adds to the enchanting ambience! We didn't have to wait long at all for it to come. Our server/bartender both times was Heather, and she was simply excellent. She was attentive, charming, and so much fun to talk to.
