I finally made it here. I came here for one reason and my review is based on that reason. This is a small, no-frills establishment. There is street parking available. We ordered via telephone and picked our items up and brought them home. The main event was the meatball parm sandwich. The best meatball parm sandwich I have had. Meatballs were fresh and perfectly seasoned. Not the usual "hard meatballs" you get from a pizza place. Sauce was plentiful and had a great kick to it. Add to it the perfect sound of mozzarella and a sprinkle of parmesan. Absolutely out of this world. The bread, which can ruin a great sandwich, was equally as good. Perfect crisp to the Italian bread. And yes, it was consistent. We ordered 3 meatball sandwiches and 1 sausage sandwich and EVERYONE commented on the bread as well. We also got a Brooklyn Pie. The pie wasn't my speed. A little doughy but I would like to try a traditional round. Again, not my style and we went solely for the meatballs but grabbed a pie as an extra. I went here starving after just leaving a overnight shift. I'm African American and they were very unwelcoming and you can sense that my presence was not welcomed there. I asks the guy "Do you accept Apple Pay" His response: If we want to , yea" I didn't have my purse so I had two different payment methods. I immediately lost my appetite. The place is so cheap and ran down that it was difficult opening the door. Once I got the door open , he proceeded to yell to me " CLOSE MY DOOR" as if I was a 10year old child. The meatball is definitely homemade and has that unique taste to it. But I preferred it to be more well done, that's just a personal preference. One of my proudest moments in almost 300 reviews... Owner John Speciale, from the old neighborhood I grew up in, is an infamous Foodie Savant. Owner of multiple pizzerias over the years, his current place is on the money. He has created the best meatball around and not just in my opinion. 3-years in a row award-winning best meatball in the state of NJ! (and I heard NY wants a challenge) If you grew up here in NJ , you know this is no easy feat. And this reviewer has had more than his share of Italian pizzeria food. Small menu but has everything you need. He must bake the bread he makes his sandwiches on because between the loads of fresh mozzarella, the tomato sauce, and those big, perfect meatballs, its the Best meatball hero. AND PIZZA ? I grabbed a few slices of Grandma-style pizza to go. In case you don't know, Grandma pizza consists of a sheet pan style pizza baked with mozzarella, plum tomatoes, fresh garlic, Pecorino Romano, and oregano. ( Note: he uses REAL deal Pecorino Romano, something that you may not realize can make something good into something excellent.) It was perfect. Even when boxing it up he added some nice basil leaves and sprinkled some olive oil on top. That's someone who knows how to serve the product the right way. Top shelf ingredients on everything. Second stop was PizzAmore in Carlstadt to try these famous meatballs. Great hospitality by Cheech, and super helpful. My dad and I got a couple meatball parms. Bread was perfectly toasted, cheese was amazing (shoulda got a vid of the cheese pull, i failed on that), only critique I had is I felt like the sauce and balls were a bit underseasoned but taste is relative and for other people it may be perfect. First time trying, but I was shocked at how mediocre at best it was. Meatballs were tasteless. The bread and sauce were OK, but nothing special. The meatballs themselves had absolutely no seasoning and were totally bland. The pizza slices tasted like they'd been microwaved or had been sitting out for days (we bought the food at dinnertime - pretty normal time to get a meatball parm & a few slices). Later on, I had to run to the bathroom so no fun there, either. We threw out the leftovers. No idea how this place has awards - maybe they've gone downhill sharply recently?
