I was in town for convention and thought I would stop by my favorite pizza place from back in the day! I must say I was a tad disappointed. I sat at the bar and talked with the bartender. The bartender was fabulous! I got a personal size pizza and it just didn't taste as good as I remembered. I later talked to my niece and she told me that the personal size pizzas don't taste as good as the regular pizzas. Well now you tell me! I also got the crab and shrimp, hot dip and that was terrible. I barely saw any crab or shrimp in there. It seemed like it was mostly cream cheese and maybe some Parmesan cheese. Pizzeria DUE is close to where we were staying which checked one of the boxes for my dining companions. As a vegan diner, I was not sure if they could make a vegan deep-dish pizza. I arrived early and asked if they could. I was greeted immediately and the front service person explained to me that we can as they have vegan cheese and can make most pizzas vegan. Imagine my glee when I was told this. One of my dining companions was excited to eat there and the other was satisfied that we didn't have to walk too far in the bitter cold. ( Next time check the weather app, and bring the appropriate clothing ). We entered into the depths of Pizzeria DUE which has been making Chicago deep-dish pizzas since 1955. Our low table was at the very end of the dining room and we had a front seat to all the bar action and the comings and goings from the kitchen. If I didn't mention it before, let me state that the seating was tight. If any one of us were 20-30 lbs. larger it would have been extremely uncomfortable. One of my dinner companions ordered a deep dish with anchovies and I ordered a vegan cheese deep dish with olives, mushrooms, and onions. The other dinner companion ordered a thin-crust pizza with onions and chicken. While Pizzeria DUE can do thin-crust pizzas, their specialty is deep-dish. This would be akin to ordering sushi at a gas station or a Tomahawk steak at a gentlemen's club. At this point, the readers can guess what was the outcome. We both enjoyed our deep dish pizzas which the other diner did not enjoy his thin crust pizza. The bottom line is this. Located on N. Wabash Ave. & E. Ontario St. across Bally's Casino. 1st time in Chicago, 2nd time having deep dish. We went on this Sunday, busy afternoon so the wait time was about half hr. The hostess allowed us to look at their menu and put our order in since deep dish takes a long time to come out. We were seated and still had to wait quite long for our pizza, but we understood because it was peak time. We tried their medium sausage deep dish pizza. The crust was way too crispy for my taste. I couldn't even cut through with a knife, but the pizza had a good taste. It was not the best, but it was pretty good. It's very cheesy with the perfect amount of sauce. The restaurant is small with a good-sized bar. Our server Alec, was very attentive and made sure to check up on us often regardless of how busy they were. It was a bowl of lettuce with a couple of cherry tomatoes bathing in a pool of wine vinegar. There was no salad dressing, just pure vinegar. When I ordered up some olive oil, it came out in a little plastic cups. The dining room was comfortable, and I was seated right away despite there being a crowd. Plenty of tables for one. I don't know if that is how the crust normally is for a deep dish or if it turned out that way bc of the vegan cheese, but it was a no for me. It was crumbly and didn't have flavor. My first time trying deep dish in Chicago was at pizzeria DUE. Me and my friend originally wanted to try Pizzeria Uno but they were too packed so we went to Pizzeria Due across the street since we heard it was the same original owners. We were seated quickly and our servers were so kind. The pizza was amazing and I ended up going back three times in one week! Joe was super nice and was amazing with service. I personally did not enjoy the photographer who kept going around and taking photos of people then trying to sell them to them, I know this is a normal thing but the way she did it was very pushy and it was in the middle of eating and that was my one complaint of the atmosphere. read more

My son and I ate here while we were on vacation in Chicago. He wanted to taste Chicago deep dish pizza, and this is where it all started. We knew that it takes time for the pizzas to cook so we ordered some garlic bread with cheese appetizers not the best, but it was pretty good. I Haven't been here in years and we used to eat at the walnut room at Christmas time but it's so hard to get in there now and only to eat mediocre food. This was our last stop for food before heading to the airport to fly home. The presentation of the Caesar salad was super cute and it tasted just as good. The spaghetti and meatballs were...ok. The pasta itself was well cooked and the perfect consistency. The sauce was a little deceiving from how it looked. When it came out it looked thick and lush, but was actually pretty thin and didn't stick well to the pasta. I did enjoy the flavor when you could get a good amount of it in a bite. The meatballs were denser than I typically enjoy and I only ended up eating the one. If I get a chance to come back to Chicago I'd give them another try, especially since we weren't able to try what they're known for - the deep dish pizza. read more

It's been ages since I've been to Uno's or Due's. The pizza was delicious, the service was great! And then, I spotted the ceiling. Part of the ceiling panels had fallen off, and it looks like anytime debris could fall on customers and in their food. Actually, it looked like the ceiling lamps could fall as well. We also all had drinks. My bro and his friend had beers while my sister had the peach mule. I ordered the grand patron margarita with sugar on the rim. The drinks were strong and pretty tasty, so that was good. I tipped the waiter more than 20% on my card, but my brother wanted to tip in cash, but he needed a large bill broken. We were heading to a comedy show, so we needed the leave. The waiter was taking too long to come back, so he didn't get much of a tip on their bill. (We'd asked for two separate checks) We felt bad about not tipping more, but it wasn't our fault that the service was so slow. At any rate, the experience wasn't very memorable. When our server had came back to refill our water, I had asked her if she could bring the check, and I had my card ready for her when she came a few minutes later.
