We were looking for something for dinner but didn't want to drop $150-200 at any of the more fancy sit down options around. It's not super clear, so we stood in line with the other guests waiting to be seated and asked about ordering a pizza to go. We were told to place an order with the bartender, the bar is inside to the left. The bartender was busy but very pleasant and took our order and name. We selected the Cippolina & Salsiccia & $24. She let us know it would be about a 25 minute wait. She said we could have called in a to go order from our room, as well. If you do, the bar is where you will pick it up. We came back about 15 minutes later & had a couple of glasses of wine while we waited. The pizza was out on time and looked great. We asked about red pepper flakes & even though the container gave her a fight, she happily secured some for us to go. The crust is tasty & has all the high/correct cook temperature toasty bubbles a good crust should have. The sauce has an authentically subtle flavor. The cheese is high quality & plentiful. We came to Portifino's pizzeria for our last meal in Kaua'i on Tuesday night the 2nd. This is basically Portifino's restaurant with a pizzeria section. We got to meet the cook later on in the night. Let me tell you something, Hugo, their pizza maker, this guy dusts any pizza guy you can think of. He's got his pizza making skills from Seattle, and got trained up there by some guys from Naples Italy. Holy moly, I'm telling you, this guys pizza was unreal. I haven't had pizza this good in forever. Now ambience is what's strange, they have pizza parlor vibes with some stuff like napkins, salt/pepper shakers, small tables, then elegant vibes with a music singer & full bar with wine, etc. Very odd, the pizza alone at this spot should honestly make it kill as long as Hugo is making em up. Perfect espresso martini from the "fill in" bartender. 20 minutes order to ready for a pie that had perfect crust, great toppings and a wonderful Caesar to go with it. Comped us some fresh foccaicia bread to boot. On the flip side only open 5-9, and that's a guideline. 6 people walking around prepping as 8 people waited until 5:10 to even be acknowledged. My only reason for the 3 stars is the food. The only saving grace for this spot. The vibe was a bit strange at this restaurant. Old chairs, weird lighting, and astrayed from where everyone else was sitting. Just a cold feeling instead of a warm, hospitable environment. That's just my opinion on that. They make you sit inside if you want to order pizza because it's the tables where you have to eat it. You can only eat at the other restaurant on the outside patio if you don't order pizza. The people were extremely rude to my husband when he went in there to pick up a pick up order. The hostess looked at him and said "you can't come in here dressed like that!" We were craving for pizza, so we called this pizzeria. The recording said they are taking pizza orders on the second floor. We went to the restaurant and was directed to order at the bar. The lady bar tender asked if I ordered by phone. I told her that the recording said to co.e and order in person. When I told her that no one answered the phone and all I got was a recording, she snapped at me and said that they were probably on the phone or they were busy. I attempted to order pizzas to go from the pizzeria section of the restaurant, done in person at the front desk as no one was answering the phone at 5pm on a Friday. I was told that the pizzeria was closed as they only had one pizzaiolo (the other was on vacation) so I assume that meant he was reserved exclusively for the main restaurant. The online reservation system was not accepting reservations for five people until hours later, so we were unable to patronize this place at all.
