For a quick, light, Monday lunch, I stopped by PJ's. I expected the usual cafe fare of simple sandwiches. To my pleasant surprise, I found cubanos ($7.99) available, which I promptly ordered along with a large drip coffee ($3.15). I didn't plan on dessert, but the beignets ($4.15) convinced me otherwise. Since the number of patrons inside numbered one (myself), I received my order within 5 minutes. Both the Cubano and beignets arrived piping hot (need to wrap a few napkins level of hot). The Cubano's ciabatta proved quite fluffy. The pickles did not seem too tangy. The beignets (3 per order) also proved incredibly fluffy. I knocked off some of the powdered sugar as I don't like too much sweetness. Overall, it possessed my preferred balance of slight bready savoriness accented with, but not overpowered with, sweetness. I made a quick stop by PJ's Coffee to buy some time prior to another appointment. Overall, I thought everything was fine with my experience. I ordered a regular coffee, a bacon, egg & cheese biscuit, and beignets. I did not have any major issues with my order. My only (very) minor complaint was I thought that the beignets were a bit doughy, but that's more of my preference. I thought the prices of my items were fine relatively to other places in the area. I ordered the Banana Foster coffee and it was really good, but the star of my visit was the beignets! One order comes with three powdered-sugar covered beignets cook to order....so the beignets come out fresh and hot!! This is what makes these bad boys soooo good. Order and try these for yourself....You are in for a treat with this New Orleans classic. The beignets are pillowy soft, seemed deep fried, and dusted with generous helping of powdered sugar. It might not be Cafe du Monday level....but dang near close and alright by me! lol. Totally enjoyed them with my coffee. In all, a great coffee shop and excellent customer service. Kudos to the female that assisted me. She was very polite and helpful in explaining the menu to me as a newcomer. Very nice space. I missed out on getting the new beignets but the next time I go it's on! The staff was amazing and helpful! I loved that they have non dairy alternatives to the milk and cream option. I only grabbed the coffee to go but this coffee was definitely a great choice! My wife and I enjoy finding new coffee shops to visit. We hadn't heard of PJ's so we decided to visit their Silver Spring shop. The Coffee was 'nothing to write home about', but was more than made up for by the Beignet, which were delicious and had enough powdered sugar to get all over - a memory from my visit to New Orleans some years ago. Sadly, the ambiance was 'sterile' as I felt like I was in the bottom floor of an office building - I was hoping for a better New Orleans feel. The service was friendly enough. Greeted politely, served quickly (we were the only people there on a Saturday afternoon...) sorry to say: nothing really to head back for. Lest I be a snobby northerner - I checked w a friend from southern LA regarding the chain - he said that outside of New Orleans, this is a typical experience. read more

The Beignets will change your life. I'm a believer lol! Seriously friend treat yourself and thank me later. The venue is quaint and unassuming. Charming with inviting decor. The barista was friendly and efficient. I went on a Friday afternoon around 11:30a and was the only one there. Not sure if it's a little more crowded during the morning rush. Meter parking is right out front. The iced latte was sweet and creamy just like I like it, yet they have an array of yummy options. Went to PJ's Coffee looking for Beignets for Fat Tuesday and was very happy I went. The cafe itself looks very inviting. Mixture of small table and chairs and some very comfortable big leather seats. I looked at the display case and did not see any beignets, and was fearful they may have been out. A very friendly barista told me that it was not so, and explained to me they were made to order (3 to an order). I purchased one order and sat down in one of the comfy leather chairs. Within five minutes he came to my chair with a small bag of piping hot beignets. They looked enticing and tasted fabulous. Held up very well when I got back home. My fiancé and I have been intending to try this place but it's been closed periodically due to COVID and new management. We finally went today and we're very impressed. They have seasonal flavors and this month was blueberry. I had an iced Blueberry Cobbler Velvet Ice and my fiancé had a Blueberry Cobbler Iced Latte. We both shared and loved them both. We also got a Blueberry Cobbler Muffin that was warm and delicious. They have comfortable seating inside as well as outdoor tables but we chose to have our drinks and muffin under the Inventa Towers (former Discovery Building). The staff are prompt and friendly. This certainly beats the chain coffee shops in town and is a great addition. Perhaps next will be pumpkin spice that I have heard people rave about. We look forward to returning to try other flavors. What a cute and cozy coffee shop addition to Silver Spring! I've been eyeing this place for a while and am happy to partially experience some Creole vibes in tea and coffee format. Just fyi, it's mainly a tea and coffee spot. They sell biscottis and some other breakfast items but if you're hungry, you may want to go elsewhere for food. I ordered the Vienna and my friend ordered the gingerbread coffee for winter spirit and we both enjoyed our drinks. Although I ordered a small, my drink came in a larger royal purple cup. Love the purple theme to represent NOLA. Prices are similar to Starbucks. Inside seating is really cute-they have low level cushioned bar stools where you can watch baristas craft their magic concoctions. There's a lot of natural lighting too so it's an instant mood lifter when you're sitting inside sipping on your beverage. This PJ's is located in my building so it's super convenient for me to walk downstairs and grab some coffee when I'm in the mood. Today, I noticed a Bananas Foster Cold Brew on their menu as a seasonal option (I loathe anything pumpkin flavored) and decided to try it out. I placed my order on the app and made my way downstairs. When I walked in, there were about 5-6 people sitting/working on laptops and another 2 standing and waiting for orders. I stood to the side to wait for my order while I watched 2 employees work diligently although nobody greeted me or asked if I'd been helped. After a few minutes my drink was placed on the counter with a ticket with my name on it so I grabbed it and left. Nobody said a word to me. I greatly appreciate how fast my drink was prepared but it seemed the customer service may have been slightly lacking, at least during this visit but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Now about this bananas foster cold brew...it was described on the website as: cold brew dripped fresh with flavored extracts of vanilla ice cream, ripe banana, brown sugar, rum and just a touch of cinnamon, topped with milk over ice. I don't know about you, but that description sounds like something that would be sweet and delicious. Unfortunately, it wasn't sweet at all and I couldn't detect any of the flavors described! Bottom line: Skip the bananas foster cold brew, place your order on the app so you won't have to wait and don't expect a greeting or anyone to acknowledge you.
