I would give this place 5 star review but my experience here was not perfect. I actually highly recommend this place and I bet it's great on any other day. However, my friend and I went on Mother's Day and the service was not the best. I understand that Mother's Day is a really busy day but we were not approached by any waiters for maybe 15+ minutes. We had to flag down the waiter to order and once again for the check. Besides that service the food was amazing. My friend whose gluten free says she had the best GF pancakes ever. Judging by the number of yelp check ins as of late, you know my brain is saying pandemic is officially over. And so it is over. Plain Jane was where I gathered with friends for the first time in 1.3 years. That's a long time. Gone were the masks and fear of contracting the deadly disease. Plain Jane is a very popular spot because it has a lot of really filling, appetizing and pretty American style breakfast with some interesting and fashionable finds such as red velvet pancakes. Which as we know, are a pretty dessert item disguising as breakfast.. I had the smoked duck breast with salad but I did end up eating my friends' home fries which are delicious. The portion is huge. I think in part made huger because I forgot what American breakfast size is due to the pandemic. We all have brain fog on what restaurant portions are. The service is very prompt and fast. The food is fresh and well timed. Items on the menu is reflective of San Francisco types of taste, a bit of crab, a bit of Asian, and a bit of Americana. It did not seem to take reservation. We waited for half an hour. We are probably on the older side. Most people are a lot younger. We therefore couldn't finish everything but that's alright. Left overs were extra tasty. Best part was of course I have officially resumed brunch with my lady friends of 20+ years. The same group of us have been dining out for years. We came around 1:30pm on President's Day Monday afternoon and there was a ~10 minute wait. (There continued to be a short line pretty much through closing at 2pm.) The service was very attentive. Our waitress gladly accommodated our request to change tables (away from one by the door) despite being very busy. The food was quite good and well-portioned, but the drinks had way too much sugar. One of my favorite places to brunch in the city! Going to start this off by recommending the Crispy Potatoes!! Could not get enough of those and ordered an extra side on my last visit. There is seating inside and a good amount of outdoor seating as well. I went on a Saturday around 11am and there was a line outside (which you need to stand and wait in with your party before they can seat you), but the wait was only about 10-15 minutes. Service is friendly and attentive. Food is really delicious and so filling. I always leave on a happy stomach, which is followed by a food coma nap. I had a very delicious breakfast today with my wife and my brother. We walked in and were seated quickly. We all ordered and our food came out pretty fast as well. I enjoyed the Peasant Lorraine Flatomelete. It was perfectly cooked, squarish sheet of eggs that had sliced rounds of asparagus, cherry tomatoes, green onions, bacon, and melted Swiss cheese all dappled in the perfect eggs. The dish also comes with slices of seeded bread, and your choice of greens or potatoes and I went with the potatoes. It was enough food to feed me for lunch later on! We all shared the PJ's Sweet Flight which comes with the Pain De Mei custard French toast, a cottage cheese pancake w/ fruit and Oreo crumbs, and a red velvet pancake w/ bananas chocolate chips & maple syrup. We ordered a mimosa carafe since they don't have bottomless, and we were satisfied. They have a lot of different mimosa flavors, but we opted for the classic OJ and they were made well. Split among 3 people, 2 carafes was enough to have a good buzz which would be about the price of bottomless anyways. The brunch itself was good. The chicken tender and chorizo fries were bomb, the fries were well seasoned and loaded up, though I'm not sure how well the chicken went with the fries. Still good though. The fried chicken and waffles were also good, though some pieces of the chicken were a little dry. My friend got the chorizo scramble which was also solid. I'd come back to try the pancakes and other dishes. It was kinda pricey but I think eating out is just like that now, so just be aware. Overall a solid brunch option in the Mission. My friend and I were making plans for breakfast, and she suggested that I try Plain Jane. I haven't been to the place before, but I was excited to try some place new. She mentioned that they didn't take reservations, so we arranged to meet around 9am when it opened. I showed up about 8 minutes to opening and found myself as the first person there. Even if I didn't come to Plain Jane for breakfast. I'd go for their craft coffee drinks. I ordered a dirty chai latte, which was fantastic. Very smooth, and the spices weren't overbearing. Unfortunately they didn't have a big range of dairy and non-dairy options. I wanted my latte with nonfat milk, but I could only choose from whole, oat, and almond. I appreciated how simple Plain Jane's menu was. Last thing I needed was analysis paralysis because there were too many options. I easily narrowed my options to two things: smoked duck hash or the mushroom omelette. Luckily, my friend opted for the mushroom omelette, so I got the smoked duck hash knowing that I'd get to try some of her food. The smoked duck hash came with two eggs, white or wheat toast, and potatoes or salad. Overall I thought it was good. The salad ingredients tasted so crisp and fresh, and I liked the balsamic it came with. I don't normally eat toast, but their wheat toast was impressive. I think it was wheat sourdough, and the crumb was so soft. The duck meat was lean, and it was mixed in with a sauté of diced zucchini and sweet potato. Everything tasted tasty and healthy. My only gripe was that the eggs didn't come in the consistency I asked for. I wanted the eggs over medium, but they were over easy on the runnier side.
