Wow, is this place delicious. What a find. All my friends from out of town want to go there when they come to visit. Fresh, authentic Greek cuisine. This food brings me back to the Greek Ilses. The salads are super fresh and the hand made Plaka Gyro is better than anything you can get in this country. All ingredients are fresh, and the food made from scratch, no canned or frozen crap here. The chicken is always moist with just the right lemon herb sauce, the lamb succulent and the specially seasoned hand cut french fries are out of this world. Popped into Plaka for lunch today, and found there was a line of people waiting to place their orders. "Hmmm...will I get my food and make my next appointment?" I wondered. Annnnd....the answer was "YES!" Everything is cooked to order, but I still got my meal and made my schedule. These folks clearly know how to run a nice little restaurant. The decor is attractive & welcoming, the food is tasty and moderately priced, and the staff was great about taking orders at the counter, then delivering to the diner's table. ESPN was up on the Flat-panel TV, and clusters of local people were enjoying a terrific variety of Greek and Greek-American specialties. With the unfortunate loss of Knossos a few blocks away, Plaka looks promising for my future Greek food fixes. Some hints on getting in: If you're coming from the south (Oakton) get in the left turn lane as if you were going to turn left into Lawyers' Rd. Instead, turn left into the parking lot. Otherwise, if you turn left into Lawyers, you'll have to wait for someone to let you through the east-bound traffic to enter the parking lot from the Lawyer's rd. side. If you're coming from Tyson's or Reston, you can come at the lot from either Lawyer's Rd/Church St. or from Rt 123 southbound without having to cross lanes of traffic. Be aware that parking can be tight during daytime business hours when the paint shop, nail spa, and vacuum shop are all open. You should find more spots available for dinners or off-peak hours. There are no steps or curbs, so if you're on crutches or using a wheelchair, this is a good choice. read more

This place is AWESOME!!! I happened upon it when my tire exploded off of Lawyers road and I was able to drive it the few feet into the parking lot. It could not have happened at a better loaction, nice warm place with great food to wait for AAA. Except AAA was not taking calls so a guy named Mike who works at Plaka's CHANGED MY TIRE for me! We are Greek and spend a lot of time in Greece. It's hard to find anything that compares to the wonderful food in Greece. Finally, it's available at the Plaka Grill in Vienna. The cheese and spinach pies are outstanding, the souvlaki and gyros are seasoned just right, and you find dishes not usually seen this side of the Atlantic, like biftekia, vegetables cooked Greek style, and shrimp cooked with feta. The french fries are wonderful. And you can get this with a glass of wine, sitting next to a beautiful mural of a small Greek village. And don't miss the avgolemeno soup (chicken with lemon), it's like my mother-in-law from Athens used to make. I usually don't like gyros all that much and will pick souvlaki (pork or chicken) when given the option. And I'm a souvlaki fanatic as many of my reviews will show. I had the plaka gyro today for lunch after reading the reviews on this place. In fact, I drove 15 miles out of my way to get there. It was well worth it. The plaka gyro isn't cut from that big stump of mystery meat (although they do have that if you prefer), but rather from a stack of pork put on a spit. It reminds me very much of Hamburg Doener in Leesburg, but it comes on a pita. It was awesome. I always get an extra side of tzatziki because gyro's can be dry sometimes. I did use some, but not much. The tzatziki was very good, but not as good as Mythos Grill in Gaithersburg (I could eat theirs by itself, with a spoon). My only complaint is I wasn't really feeling the fries on top, but who cares, it's easy enough to take them off. And it doesn't come with feta by default, I asked for it after I ordered and was looking at their menu. They added it free of charge, but I'd expect that next time I'd be charged for it. It was one of those lunches that you think about for the rest of the day, and contemplate going back for dinner. I really want to try their souvlaki but I'm not sure I'll be able to pass up the plaka gyro when it comes time to order! read more

We lunch there every Sunday afternoon. While there are terrific restaurants in the Washington area, these guys are the best for a quick, satisfying Greek meal. As others have said, this place is a gem! It was crowded (1pm on a Saturday) but people come and go rapidly so we got a seat soon. You're sitting elbow to elbow in long tables with other people, so its not ideal for a first date. I had the lentil soup (faki) and it was FANTASTIC and the portion was generous. I also got a Plaka salad - everything was fresh tasting (no watery tomatoes here!) and add a tasty sprinkle of dried herbs to the top. Both items included their tasty, freshly made on the grill pitas. My companions got the veggie pita (and she's a carnivore!) and a grilled chicken off the kids menu. We were both a little surprised with how many french fries were in the kids meal, so perhaps substitute for rice instead. Then again, the adults kept eating the kids' fries in order to "help" with this problem. read more

The first thing you see when you step up to the counter is sizzling hot pork meat in all its glory just spinning around and around dripping with hot sizzling fatty goodness. And if that doesn't get you to try Plaka grill then how about some freshly fried herbed French fries, pork souvlaki, moussaka, or a cold Greek brew. I've only been to Plaka Grill twice.....in the past week but the food has been as good if not better than the Greek diners I've gone to growing up in Queens. Plaka gyro is awesome. Recently we introduced my sister and BIL to Plaka. In the 15 days since we first took them there - they have been back 4 times! I will start by saying that their food is delicious. Unfortunately, their catering service leaves much to be desired. I contacted Plaka to cater my daughter's first birthday party for about 30 people. I was assured by Andrew, the catering manager, that they would be able to cater the event. With less than two weeks before the party, I just received a voicemail informing me that they are unable to handle my order because they are participating in the Taste of Vienna. This is very disappointing and unprofessional. This place is great for a quick dinner, but don't count on them to follow through with catering. read more

I tried this place on opening day and was very impressed with the service and the food. However after going back a couple more times in the following year I have yet to have an experience to match. The Plaka Gyro is delicious if the frys are not super greasy, which is unfortunately not a guarantee. Still a good place for quick carry out lunch or dinner. read more

Love this little Greek place! It's not very big inside but it's really cute and the service is fast. I ordered a gyro with fries and it was one of the best gyros I've had! I read the reviews so I tried Plaka. I should have noticed there were not many reviews, if any, from guys named Nichos, Stavros, or Alex because no Greek that appreciates real Greek cuisine would give Plaka a great review. As an American of Greek heritage who has been to Greece and eaten in many Greek restaurants I can tell you that you Amerikanis (pronounce that American with a ee sounding i) and Xene (that translates to the word stranger, these are words that Greeks call you) are being sold standard Greek fare and nothing special. I went to Plaka about an hour ago and purchased 3 Loukanica wraps to go. This is basically a Greek sausage and if you ever have the real thing you would find it very tasty. I got the 3 wraps home and was immediately put off by the presentation. Instead of cutting the sausage in segments it was left whole and sticking out of the pita like a hot dog in an undersized bun. There was one half of a small tomato slice (are tomatoes really expensive now?) and a few onions with tzaziki (yogurt/cucumber) sauce. There were a lot of fries on it and obviously the deep fat fryer grease needed changing. The sausage itself tasted more like mild sweet Italian sausage than what I have eaten in many other establishments. I called the place after unwrapping the product and spoke to Andrew. He was very nice and offered me a gift card but I declined. When I don't care for an establishment's cuisine I'm not looking to eat more of it. The correct thing to do would have been to ask me to bring back the product for a refund. Let me be clear, I'm not looking for anything free. If I was I would have accepted the gift card offer. Bottom line - you can go to any Greek Orthodox Church Festival in the metro DC area and get a better gyro (or wrap if you want to call it that). If you don't want to leave Vienna you can go to Maggios Skorpios Grill on Maple and I think you'll say why did I ever go to Plaka grill? That is what I'm saying right now. You might also try Amphora in Vienna. I spoke Greek to the owner there so he's probably got a gyro on the menu somewhere. I had to come back and edit this review because this is a very important point - where was the feta? All gyros have feta. Feta is so Greek that the country licensed the word Feta and you can't use it if your feta-like cheese product is not from Greece. So, how can you not have feta? I did not get a Greek salad but observed other diners eating them and I saw no feta and no Kalamata Olives. Wanna know why? Because those ingredients are expensive and Plaka doesn't think you know any better. Judging by the 5 stars, most reviewers don't. read more

Family owned and Greek Food. My favorite is the very generous amount of gyro meat. It includes their deliciously seasoned warm pita. The salad has more than just lettuce -- It has feta, olives, interesting peppers and a perfect salad dressing on the side. The baklava is perefect - the best I've ever had - very cinnomon-y. The decour is very nice -- even the bathroom. A charming mural of a greek village adorns one entire wall.
