4* Food 5* Ambiance…read more5* Service I love the ambiance and French country farm style of this Olive and Thyme restaurant. Tall ceiling, clean white background decorated with beautiful nicknacks, copper pans, cook books, coffee bar and sweets, and a menu that has a little something for everyone. Judging by the plates served at other tables, generous potions and beautifully plated are served for both breakfast, brunch and lunch. Multiple sandwiches, salad and breakfast menue options. We chose the taco and salmon bowl options. Both were delicious, flavorful and beautifully presented. The short rib taco was slightly dry and more of an appetizer portion than a lunch one. The bowl had a more generous salmon portion, rice, and vegetables. We really enjoyed the rice crispy chocolate chip. It was buttery, sweet and satisfying.

I…read moreremember the exact day because my attorney Richard had just gotten me out of a jam and I was eager to treat him to a meal (in lieu of payment). We got off the 134 and easily found some meter parking near the restaurant (I heard later that Richard got a ticket but not my problem). Strolling into O&T, I'd say the vibe was business casual. I heard the word "tentpole" spoken at multiple tables. I ordered the Chinese chicken salad and Richard got one of those waters that comes in a box. 45 minutes later it was bon appetit. I would describe the salad as heavy, which in this case is a compliment. There's something magical about the combination of fresh veg, crispy wonton strips, and umami peanut sauce dressing. Honestly? The mouth feel makes my mouth squeal. I usually can't finish a salad, but I was enjoying this one so much I pretended not to see Richard's Miata getting towed on Kenwood. I finished the salad and Richard was full on water so we asked for the check. The waiter brought one of those Nintendos for Visas and I pretended I couldn't find my wallet. Luckily Richard had traveler's checks. All-in-all I couldn't ask for a better lunch. I don't like to discuss my legal matters on Yelp, but let's just say after visiting Olive & Thyme I was driving under the influence of a full belly :)

Has limited seating inside and out so get there early if you can! I love the decor with the butterflies on the wall and they are playing chill jams. They have a cute chalkboard off the menu and a cool photo wall is celebrities who have visited. My fiancé and I tried the Huevos Rancheros plate, Peaches and Cream Waffle, and the Thai Style Fried Chicken plate. Along with their two drinks; Sunset Refresher & Blueberry Vanilla Cold Foam Matcha. Huevos Rancheros were a hit. To be honest I thought the dish to be a small serving at first. But it's actually a good portion. You get three tostadas stacked and layered with black beans and mozzarella and topped off with over easy eggs and salsa. I loved how the corn tortillas maintained their crunch and never got soggy. The habanero salsa that it came had a good KICK. Peaches and Cream waffle was good as well. It is seasonal so we jumped on the opportunity. Waffle was thick and fluffy that came with powdered sugar and cinnamon. The peaches were also thick and the sauce it came was light and sweet. Can never go wrong with ice cream and waffles. The Thai Style chicken was pleasant surprise. Before we ate the chicken, I tried a piece of the breading and I knew it was gonna be a good one. Lots of flavor from the tom yum seasoning and the chicken was a decent size. It's not spicy and comes with a sweet sauce to dip in. The bell peppers balanced out this dish. I was a fan of the sunset refresher. It's a mix of hibiscus, pineapple and lemonade. It's more tart than sweet but refreshing. The blueberry cold foam iced matcha was solid. Not too sweet and properly balance. Overall a good brunch spot with a large menu guaranteed to have you come back to try other things. A little pricey.

We got a quick lunch a couple of days ago and I've got to try their Chinese chicken salad, it's their version with a crispy chicken, and has peaches, it was pretty good. It's always so packed, which is great for them, but it gets loud very quickly. Not really suitable for working or having a chat. I'd say it's more of a bite and go kind of place. But their pastry section is definitely worth a visit.

Parking in this area is very easy compared to Los Angeles and our server was very polite. It's not a full Service restaurant you order at the counter, they give you a number, and then bring your food. There is not full waiter service. The menu is really large and filled with all sorts of great options and they have a ton of bakery items as well. It's really easy to find gluten-free and regular treats. Inside is also very large with many different table options and they seem to have very quick service because all the tables were returning pretty quickly. For this meal, I chose the soft omelette and thought it was fantastic. It was made just as I liked it and every part about it was great. We also ordered some of the churro pancakes and they were a real great sweet treat. They also have delicious drinks and honestly everything that we ordered was wonderful. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the area and already want to come back again to try some of their lunch options.

And this is how it was one night after eating dinner at another restaurant nearby...the enticing-looking slices at Gjelina Take Away beckoned, and I answered the call. Considering Gjelina proper is one of the more difficult restaurants to get into if you don't plan in advance, being able to get a taste of their deliciousness at the adjacent take-away version is a gift to us all. Their Pomodoro pie (think perfectly thin and crispy crust, generous size, and tomatoes galore on top) looked out of control, so we got a slice. Add burrata cheese? Oh, yes, please do that. And they did, and we ended up with this glorious Naples / NYC slice fusion that delighted my post-dinner pizza joie de vivre. There is plenty for vegetarians at Gjelina Takeaway, including some delights from the main Gjelina menu, other slices, and more. Oh, Gjelina Take Away - we took away...and we will keep it with us...always.

I ordered the turkey sandwich and within 3 minutes of receiving it, the bread got soggy from the inside and half the ingredients spilled out, making a sloppy mess on my plate. It basically became a turkey salad with soggy bread mixed in. The quality was good and fresh, but I will not tolerate poor sandwich bread integrity, especially when it's $18. The more expensive the sandwich, the more irritated I get when it instantly turns into soup upon holding it for a bite. I like Gjelina for other items on the menu. Service is good. Location is nice for Venice. But I'll never order a sandwich here again until they toast the bread or use thicker slices to maintain sandwich firmness.

Now, I took the safe option and ordered a California burger with cheese which certainly filled my culinary needs, but I'll say that the customer service here was beyond exemplary. Given that my partner has a zucchini allergy and upon noticing some in a wrap that wasn't listed, without skipping a beat, they remade her order. I'm not one to rave about lettuce of all things, but their lettuce in their side salads is made with house made ceasar dressing and it really stole the show with every bit of salad having a very satisfying and fresh crunch. Beyond that, Annabelle, our very attentive and friendly server offered us fresh slices of dessert when we ordered some, and I'm almost certain you have to make a pact with a deity to have a cheesecake come out as perfectly airy and smooth as mine did. I can't believe I'm saying this, but the food I came to eat wasn't the main focus. It was the vibe of that place and a cheesecake I'm going to be dreaming about for the next month. Cheers!

The restaurant is also off the new D line Metro station, which we wanted to check out! Service was great, and the servers (owners? There were 2 people working and taking care of us, so we weren't sure.) who took our order were very attentive, friendly and hospitable. When we asked about bottomless mimosas, the woman at the counter told us that they stopped offering them now that they're closed on Sundays, and all of the food isn't prepped as it normally would have been for the weekend. That didn't make sense to us since we were just ordering orange juice and bubbly, but we went ahead purchased individual mimosas. The drinks were almost entirely orange juice and not much champagne. I ordered the beef kabob plate, which came with a side of cucumber/tomato salad and basmati rice. It was okay for $20; it included 5 pieces of steak that were a little gristly. I was surprised that it didn't include tzatziki or any other sides (pita, etc) but the server was kind enough to give me a small hummus side. One of the servers checked on us and brought more water, and he also offered to refill our coffees if we wanted. When my friend went inside to ask for more coffee, the other woman told her that a refill would be charged as a new cup of coffee. We declined, but it was confusing because we thought we were offered refills. Overall, it was OK. I linked the laid-back vibe of the restaurant, 2 outdoor patios, and that there was a free parking lot! I think it would really help to have some music on the patio!
