23 days ago I went to Olive & Thyme and enjoyed one of the better lunches I've had in my life. I remember the exact day because my attorney Richard had just gotten me out of a jam and I was eager to treat him to a meal (in lieu of payment). We got off the 134 and easily found some meter parking near the restaurant (I heard later that Richard got a ticket but not my problem). Strolling into O&T, I'd say the vibe was business casual. I heard the word "tentpole" spoken at multiple tables. I ordered the Chinese chicken salad and Richard got one of those waters that comes in a box. 45 minutes later it was bon appetit. I would describe the salad as heavy, which in this case is a compliment. There's something magical about the combination of fresh veg, crispy wonton strips, and umami peanut sauce dressing. Honestly? The mouth feel makes my mouth squeal. I usually can't finish a salad, but I was enjoying this one so much I pretended not to see Richard's Miata getting towed on Kenwood. I finished the salad and Richard was full on water so we asked for the check. The waiter brought one of those Nintendos for Visas and I pretended I couldn't find my wallet. Luckily Richard had traveler's checks. All-in-all I couldn't ask for a better lunch. I don't like to discuss my legal matters on Yelp, but let's just say after visiting Olive & Thyme I was driving under the influence of a full belly :) read more

After seeing a photo of the Short Rib Scramble in the reviews, I knew that was exactly what I wanted and the reason I made the trip to Olive & Thyme. Before heading over, I called to ask about parking and was happy to learn they have a parking structure attached to the restaurant that validates, so make sure to bring your ticket. The moment I walked in, the place felt lively and welcoming. You grab a menu at the entrance, order and pay at the counter, then find your own seat. Unfortunately, after waiting in line and making it to the register, I was told the Short Rib Scramble was a seasonal item and no longer available. I won't lie, I was pretty disappointed. Thankfully, the cashier quickly stepped in with a recommendation and suggested the Steak Breakfast Burrito. It ended up being a great call. The burrito was packed with juicy steak, bell peppers, and had the perfect crispy exterior that gave it a great texture without being overdone. Every bite was balanced and flavorful. While I came for one dish and left with another, the friendly service, helpful staff, and delicious food made the experience worth it. I'll definitely be back, and maybe one day I'll finally get to try that famous Short Rib Scramble. read more

It's definitely on the pricier side, but the food came out quickly and the staff was friendly. The wrap was honestly so good. Great texture, size, and evenly filled. I still find myself craving it! The Dirty Chai was also not bad, pretty sweet in my opinion. Parking was easier than expected since there's a parking garage right next door that they validate, plus metered street parking nearby. They ran out of their freshly pressed orange juice by like 10am but I was lucky enough to try their fresh lemonade which was delicious. This is such a cute brunch place and truly enjoyed my time with my girlfriends. I got the green goddess avocado plate. It was refreshing going through this plate and like how there is a grilled lime to compliment the whole dish. The green goddess dressing was well excuted. My friend also enjoyed their dishes. I thought their latte wasn't too special, wish they house made their syrups. I opted for the sugar free vanilla and it was ok. The prices are quite high for the portion size. The staff immediately puts me in a good mood. The place is quite large. Lots of tables for 2, 4 or a picnic table for 6. The aesthetic was super clean and cute. When fully packed it is LOUD. I had to scream my conversation. NOT recommended for hard of hearing. Parking is a nightmare! There is no parking garage like I thought. I did go on Saturday, maybe it's open during the week. I'm a regular here, but this was my first time trying their side of bacon, and it was perfection! Thin-cut, perfectly cooked, crispy, and deliciously salty. I don't usually compare bacon, but this was so perfectly suited to my taste that I didn't even feel guilty eating it. Every bite was better than the last! Very cute breakfast/brunch/lunch spot in Toluca Lake area! Tables are open seating and orders are placed on the register. The person on the register was very friendly and we had a great time interacting with him. Unfortunately we forgot to ask for his name. The rest of the staff were very friendly and assisting. Service was pretty fast even though it was peak lunch time. I ordered the avocado toast with poached eggs and arugula salad. I absolutely loved the bright, tangy dressing on the arugula. It highlighted the arugula really nicely. The eggs were perfectly poached and the yolk was actually very vibrant. So much so that I had to pause and comment how vibrant it was. There were also red peppers under the egg, so if it's too much of a kick, feel free to scrape some off. I also had their lemon bar and their matcha latte. Good matcha, but the lemon bar won me over. Not too sweet, good crumble, it was a great dessert for a sunny day. Would be back to try other things on the menu. read more

I ordered the Green Goddess Chicken Avocado plate and there's no way to describe how amazing this dish is! It is made with what i beleive is Tarragon which can be a new flavor to most people, but my friends all tried some of my dish and really liked it as well! My friends got the Crispy Chinese Chicken and California Chicken Sandwich which they all really liked. They also all ordered drinks, one got the Watermelon refresher, one got lavender lemonade and the other ordered a iced latte. Every one left very full and satisfied. The ambiance is so nice, though a bit cramped since it is on the smaller end of cafes, it still just feels cozy! We did come around 2:00pm which made it wasy for us to find seating, but I have come earlier and it is very hard to find a place to sit. The only complaint I have is the lack of parking. I love this place. I usually go for sweets for brunch, but the breakfast burrito caught my eye on the menu and when seeing it served to another guest. Alas, I passed on the scrumptious-looking Nutella Pancakes! The breakfast burrito had everything I love in a savory breakfast--bacon, scrambled eggs, avocado, tater tots, cheddar cheese, and a delicious green salsa! Being the condiment aficionado I am, I asked for a side of ketchup and mayo and boy did I have one of the best brunch outings in a while. 10/10. The coffee is robust and you get free refills. Win. They brought us an extra coffee that was made by mistake which was really nice. Multiple people checked in on us the entire time even though it wasn't a full service restaurant. Our food came out really quickly and everything about my Mediterranean plate was excellent. My husband really liked his tuna melt as well. They actually have 3 locations even though Yelp only lists the Riverside location, we went to the one on Olive. They had easy parking with validation. Find a table (we thought it was going to be difficult but turnover was quick) and the food is delivered. There are seats inside, and a small patio also. The avocado toast was delicious! The eggs were perfectly poached and runny. Bright orange yolks and creamy ripe avocado with chili flakes on toasted sourdough. Plus an arugula side salad. My husband had the short rib sandwich with horseradish aioli and was in heaven. Others had Cobb salads, and a turkey pesto sandwich. Everyone was very happy with the food. The only sort of let down were the fries. They looked super crunchy, but they actually weren't too crisp. They did taste good though. It's really cute inside too. Lots of items for sale, like cookbooks, candles, gourmet food items, etc. They also have baked goods. My 12 year old cousin was over the moon at his giant Nutella stuffed croissant. Sadly for the 3time, I was over charged for my meal. My guest and I each ordered a breakfast item, and separately lattes, but charged additionally for "meal with Coffee". This maybe only be approximately $5 more for each coffee. but plus tax and gratuity, when breakfasts are $60 for 2 ppl, it appears to be more of a scam to take advantage of guests living w healthy incomes in this business neighbood. Sadly, I drive in about an hour every other week to take meetings and don't occupy myself to check the itemized bill til i leave. I came a few months ago and got short rib tacos from the special list and really liked them so when I came again I ordered the Crispy short rib tacos. This is my mom's favorite restaurant so she was so happy I finally found something I liked but they were totally different this time. The short rib was very dry and stringy and also had a lot of fat. I didn't have to pull any fat out the previous time and this time I probably pulled 1/2 the meet out and didn't finish any of it. I don't know if it was a different special before but this seemed totally different and just not good at all. The service was not great either and seemed to be a lot it confusion going on with the kitchen/staff. They "lost" one of our orders completely and then found it and it was a much smaller portion than usual. The personalized decorations add a special touch, making it a perfect setting for my book club meet up with friends. I wish they offered more options for substituting pork in their breakfast burritos. Although the burrito was delicious without any meat, it could have been even better with additional choices. As a Muslim, I always appreciate when breakfast places cater to dietary restrictions, so I hope they consider adding more options in the future. Not sure if it was the holiday spirit or what but the restaurant staff were all extra nice and chirpy. We came by for a weekend lunch and were able to find a table pretty quickly. What helped was that an employee dropped by and gave our group a free oreo cookie and some holiday chocolates. 'Tis the season for giving! I ordered the egg white scramble with gluten free bread (+$3) as I have a significant gluten allergy. Regular bread was given and I'm glad I asked to confirm because that would have literally wrecked my day. Friendly staff will bring the food to your table when it's ready. Only complaint with this style is it's hard to determine tip up front when you haven't had any interaction besides with the (hit or miss) cashier. I'd describe the seating ambience as.. let's say farmhouse? Well nicer than a farm house. Very Clean tables and chairs but they are wooden and feel a bit cheap. There are a couple very large tables and a picnic bench as well so there's plenty of seating for large parties. Forks, knives, and napkins are already in a basket at the table with enough for at least 3 turnovers (take that as you wish). If you're like me, food is what you really judge on. And overall the food is great but pricey for the quantity. You get your moneys worth in quality though! They have a full coffee bar which is perfect with pairing breakfast with a delicious latte or cap it off with espresso if you prefer. I've had both breakfast and lunch here and either way, you can't go wrong! Breakfast brioche sandwich has a beautifully thick and buttery toasted brioche with an over medium egg, cheese, perfect bacon, and one of the best aiolis I've had. Breakfast burrito is very flavorful, great mix of ingredients, but a bit on the smaller side for the price. For lunch the BAT is my go too. Very fresh ingredients of heirloom tomatoes, aioli, avocado, and bacon! Love it. Get the side of fries too. Check their hours as they don't work for everyone and go give them a try! read more
