Horrible experience! I was driving by to go to a job interview and decided to stop in. I love the prices and some of the clothes, HOWEVER, the employees are rude! It's laughable how they think they are so cool & fashionable (even for Temecula). Having worked at Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton, this staff wouldn't last a single hour in a high end retail environment. Attention owner!!! You need to FIRE all your employees if you can't tell from your reviews they are truly messing up your reputation. Start over with new people I know it can seem hard but in the end it will definitely change the direction this store is going. I've always had great experiences with all the staff! I've sold clothes here multiple times and have always been given the dollar amount I would expect for the items I was selling. I'm sure the buyers do feel bad when they can't offer what the seller expects and could possibly lead to negative reviews/opinions, if they could offer more, they would. A tip for selling clothes here would be to keep in mind of the current season/if there's about to be a change of seasons and sell your clothes accordingly but to also only pick items that aren't commonly worn. If you try to sell a bunch of black leggings and blue jeans, it's not going to sell for a good price no matter the brand because they already have so many in stock (and backstock i'm assuming). read more

One of my favorite boutiques ever, since the first time I discovered it in my Midwest hometown! I think it is underrated and underexposed, and definitely should be talked about more. Plato's Closet sells gently used items that are from recognizable and even highly popular brands, and are all "in style" with the trends. I have come across clothing from Free People, Abercrombie, Marilyn Monroe, Olsen sisters, Hollister and more. Everything in the store is extremely organized by size, color, and item -- meaning, if you need a medium sized blue blouse, you'll be able to go right to the blouse section, find the mediums, and see all the blue options. I have shopped here for fancier dresses, accessories, shoes, shorts, tops... basically everything essential. Like any 'thrift' store, your trip could be a hit or miss depending on what you're looking for. But I hate to even call it that, since the quality makes it seem like you're shopping in the mall. If you're hoping to sell, be prepared that they are very specific about what they will accept -- it must be on par with today's fashion, preferably a good brand, and in very good condition. For this particular location, I've always had a nice experience with friendly staff, quick service, helpfulness and cleanliness! Thanks Plato's, for saving me so many pennies. Such a waste of time to sell here. I brought in 2 giant boxes of Madewell, lululemon, Theory, Paige, North Face, etc brands thinking I'd give it a try before donating. They told me it would take an hour to go through, okay cool - they're gonna do a thorough job. 15 mins later I get the text that they're done. They took 1 cr@ppy no name brand maxi dress I got as a gift. One box looked like they didn't even touch or bother looking through. The other was sloppily pawed through. Really pleased I had the honor of being judged by a snooty 16 year old today. Like what an unappealing place. Driving it right to goodwill to donate and get the tax write off. I called ahead asking if they were taking clothes during the pandemic and the person I spoke to said yes. I brought in clothes and they wouldn't take them because they were in a plastic reusable bag. They wanted me to go back home and bring the clothes back a plastic bin instead of the bag... I don't see how that makes it "safer" or cleaner. I offered to remove the clothes from the bag myself and just hand them over and this was also refused. The encounter was nonsensical and pissed me off so I just left and haven't been back. If this policy is so strict that you can't deviate from it then maybe they should have been very clear when I called over the phone hours before. read more

So disappointed in this Plato's closet. I love going to Plato's closet and this place is wayyy over priced. Jeans that I know Ross sells we're selling for the same if not more that its original. Some of the clothes had stain on them or were faded. The smell off of some were pretty disgusting also. By the time I went through 3 aisle, I was done for. I would rather shop at the actual retail store and pay like $2 more for something new. My sister also tried selling her stuff. They said they were in need of dresses and rompers and summer clothes and everything in her box was that. It was mainly pacsun, forever 21, and h&m things that had NO stains. They were definitely in style and they took none. Some of the clothes on the rack were much more uglier. Yeah, hence my one star. read more

I've been debating writing this review because normally this is my favorite location, but my last few visits have been kind of disappointing. I'm a bit of a online shopoholic, and I always forget to return items that don't fit right. That's why I love Platos- because at least I can get SOMETHING for an item that would otherwise go to waste in my closet. However, with my last few visits. It's 100% apparent they don't even look at the clothes they receive. I thought this last time I brought my clothes in (I had folded them a specific way, and they were the same way when I received them back) and if you've brought your clothes to platos before, you know they don't fold the clothes they "look at," they simply throw them back in the basket. This most recent time, I brought in BRAND NEW never worn before Lulu Lemon leggings (with tags, they were too small,) a brand new Free People top (with tags, never worn,) New Brandy Melville with tags, a new Abercrombie bodysuit with tags, and 2 new Nike Leggings and other similar brand new items (all bought within the past 2 months). They were done "looking" at my clothes in just a few minutes, and the only thing they took were new Abercrombie jeans that were on the top of my pile and a Shein dress that was also folded at the top. Everything else was folded how I left it, and clearly not looked through. What's aggravating about the situation is I drive over an hour to that location. The least they can do is LOOK at my stuff. I don't expect to get full value for anything- but I expect my stuff to be looked at...ESPECIALLY if I take the time to fold items, categorize by item type, and freshly wash every item that isn't BNWT. It's super frustrating and I don't plan on going back. My reason for this post is just so other sellers are aware of how this store operates and so employees can know to maybe take a little more time to review items they get...especially since that's what the store advertises "we buy your gently used name brand clothing." This used to be my favorite platos closet location and I can't quarrel with the clothes they select. The payment for clothes is very low, almost insulting at times, but better than nothing. The huge problem with this store is their current container policy. I drove 30min to bring in an extremely heavy space bag full of clothes, and it was a huge struggle to lift and carry. Upon arrival the employee informed me that they will not currently accept clothing in bags (only plastic containers/laundry baskets are acceptable). Not only was this policy not listed on their website but it makes no sense. I have a bachelors in biology and I couldn't even begin to tell you a single way that prevents to spread of covid-19 (because it doesn't). Covid shut things down, they said no return policy and son came in from college for a week tied shoes and they didn't fit. I just got a job that requires business casual clothes and my coworkers recommended this store. I was doubtful shopping for nice clothes at a thrift store but I am so glad I checked it out!!! I ended up leaving with 5 pairs of nice fitting pants, a lot of them look unused and some still have the original tags on them! Not a lot of blouses to choice from but I still left with a cute dress shirt! The employees were all smiling and very helpful. The employee with a surprised pikachu enamel pin helped us find a security tag after the alarm went off while we were leaving and my mom talked about how polite and helpful he was the whole way home. read more

First time coming to this location. Literally worst place to come. Don't waist your gas or time coming here. I had taken two full bags of clothes perfect condition and some new items as well. My teenage girls really like going here and finding clothes. We've also sold a bunch of clothing to them to them as well which is great. They do seem to have a wide selection of popular clothing for teenage girls, this is their go to place. This is more upscale than Goodwill or Angel view. read more

Nice selection of clothes... Depends on the day if the staff is rude or not. I went in today and they were very nice! The only thing I don't like about Plato's closet is they give you next to nothing for clothes you try to sell to them. I had a pair of fabletic leggings that I originally bought for $48. And they told me they will give me $6 for them. I couldn't help but just laugh and walk away nicely. I do like shopping here though when I am in the area! They say they are buying shoes, vans, adidas, converse, booties. They profile you if you aren't a teen selling them your clothes because I brought the same items before a "teen" came in with hers and they took her SAME shoes but not mine? This place is judgmental and rude. I loved shopping there but they will no longer be getting my business or money... they say they want items "like new" and will not buy anything slightly worn... shall I bring back the items I bought to show you how they look? Because they definitely look worn considering the sweater I got from there had a huge seam string hanging right out of it. I've been here a handful of times and I love it!! Very clean with many dressing rooms. The store is very organised from sizes to clothing styles & color coordination! The staff here is amazing!! Lydia helped me with my purchases today and she was such a doll, very outgoing & loved her sweet personality! You can bring in your own clothes/items and Plato's will buy selected items from you which is awesome. On a side note it's sad reading these 1 star reviews that are based off of costumers trying to get "more" money for their items when actual thrift stores DON'T BUY clothes from you, so if you're one of those people I'd recommend you selling your items on eBay or Poshmark . Makes sense that you'd only get a small percentage for the clothing you bring in, employees gotta get paid some how, right? (If you had common sense you'd understand that.) I once came in here with a bin of CLEAN and neatly folded clothing. I had decent brands such as Nike, adidas, champion, zara, and some vintage jeans. The employees weren't very welcoming & they were having pizza behind the counter. After rummaging through my clothes, they only took two items for $8 and said my clothes were dirty. The stuff I was selling was pretty much all bought within the last year from Zara, Madewell, Abercrombie, Free People etc. But then you go and look at the stuff they're actually selling and you'll see the most ratty, worn down clothes. I love the escondido location BUT I do feel that this store has more high end clothing and items. They have a lot to choose from as well. I have come here a handful of times but because I now live in San Marcos it doesn't make sense to come here. HOWEVER with that said, they have awesome customer service. A huge variety , I love their Instagram page as well. They always have cute little designated sections like they Victoria's Secret "PINK" section. Every time i have gone the employees have been very kind and always ask if I need a fitting room or to hold my things up front, because when I go in I always leave with arms full! While they have a huge selection and decent prices, BE CAREUL to check your garments before you leave! I bought a simple Disney t-shirt to where to Disneyland. I tried it on at the store and hung it up once I got home not thinking to check where their security tag and price tag was on the shirt until I washed it well after the 7 days they give for exchanges. There was not one but TWO holes and they covered those holes with the security plastic tag, I could tell because of the circle imprint it left in comparison to where the two holes are located. It's unfair that i have to give this place a star. Employees were RUDE. Me and my family felt very Discriminated against. My husband has a medical condition and there for CANNOT wear a MASK. HIPPA LAW STILL APPLIES!!!! We were told if we shop, they would not check us out. We asked for the managers name and owners information and they would not give it to us. Would be nice to have adults to speak too, but instead were dealing with children who don't know laws let alone their own policies, they also not could provide information on store policies, per CDC guidelines. I had called yesterday to ask what specifications they have and how it works to sell and today I brought in 4 bags of amazing condition clothing, clean and ironed, with much of it along the lines of what she told me they were looking for. After waiting for a high school girl who couldn't care less to dig through everything I got up to the checkout and she said that everything I had brought was out of style (thanks hun, Its literally almost all pretty new or very classic) and that they would not be able to sell it. I've been a Plato's closet fan for years... but this one is pretty bad. Sellers perspective: I took in a huge bag of name brand clothes in great condition, they rejected the entire bag. Tried again a few weeks later, still rejected the entire bag. Buyers perspective: their stuff was damaged. $12 for a brandy Melville shirt with piling and a tear... overpriced and low quality. Makes me wonder what they're looking for if they would reject a ton of stuff that would actually sell, yet what they sell is damaged and expensive.... much more worth it to me to drive further to the corona location. read more

Poor advertising attracted me to consider doing business with them. After I carefully packed my very nice and tagged clothing and drove over, I was shocked to find much less expectations than they set. Their clothing was not what you would call "stylish" and they denied all of my items because they were too "formal". Most of these bad reviews also sum up my experience. I was curious about how they manage to stay in business with such a poor selection. Even someone with "thrift" tendencies should steer clear of their selection. None of their merchandise merits a presence. Never going back and I would like to save everyone the trip. Avoid this store! read more
